Shooter Jennings Hates John Mayer

I always love when a celebrity calls another celebrity out for being fake and Shooter Jennings has done just that after he read an interview John Mayer gave to Rolling Stone. Probably my favorite in the series of Tweets that Shooter did slamming John Mayer was "Claims he is done with Hollywood game and has roots and then cuts off hair, goes back to Hollywood clubs and starts banging Katy Perry."

He also says that John Mayer bought a place in Montana just so he could say he owned a place there for the article in Rolling Stone. I wish more people would call out the fake celebrity stuff when they have the chance. Remember when John Mayer said he was never going to give another interview again?

  1. Shooter's first album, "Put the 'O' Back in Country" is one of my faves.

  2. There is only one Shooter and that is Shooter McGavin.

  3. Cannot. Stand. John. Mayer. Such a sleeze and sooooo ugly too. I don't know WTF Katy Perry sees in that one. Not that Russell is any better, mind you.

I hate when someone feels the need to call someone else fake. Where do they get off being the Calling Out Police? What's the point? It'd be one thing if Shooter knew JM personally, but I don't think he does.

If whatever someone is doing isn't hurting you, I say leave it alone. Let JM be a jerk in his own world if he isn't bothering you directly.

  5. Aren't John Mayers' "roots" in Fairfield, CT? My ex grew up there and it's not a poor area.

  6. I wonder what his motivation for calling JM out was? Did he have an encounter with him? Did JM screw over someone he's close to? If not, it seems like a bit of an attention grab.

I'm with you Land Manatee. Can't STAND JM! Such a douche. Bragging about how Jessica Simpson was in bed, as Jen Aniston would say " So uncool" . Him and Scott the "s is silent Disick" need to go to a deserted island somewhere and realise they're meant for each other.

  8. I like Shooter, maybe this isn't the best approach... but I use my twitter/fb to complain about stuff so he should be able to as well. I freak out about able bodied people using the handicap buttons to open doors, so I will let him freak out about JM fakeness... we can get together and have trivial venting sessions over beers while discussing the hotness of Drea de Mateo (sp??) lol

  9. Layna Day, you say: "It'd be one thing if Shooter knew JM personally, but I don't think he does."

how would you ever know whether shooter knows john or not? "I don't think he does." really? you don't think he knows him? that is just laughable.

apparently shooter, who is waylon jennings son, has a long history of calling people out on their sh-t. I hadn't listened to his music before, but he's good. check out these lyrics from his song, "outlaw you."

"Hey pretty boy in the baseball hat
You couldn't hit country with a baseball bat
Country ain't just about where you're at
It's about bein' true to what's inside
You say you're an outlaw with your perfect boots
That you got from your record label's image group
Sing another man's song with a big drum loop
Listen, son, you ain't got a clue
You can't buy true, tell you what they should do
    They should outlaw you."

  10. I absolutely love Shooter Jennings, this just makes him that much cooler in my eyes. Is he still with Drea deMatteo? Love her too, I think they are an awesome couple. But I am with @Amber, wonder what the motivation was for this. Maybe it's as simple as him just thinking Mayer is an idiot.

  11. Off to check out his music.

  12. @CarmeliteLady - I was never a fan, but I kind of was like, whatever, about his existence. Then he complained about Swifty writing a song about him like he was so violated after he revealed so much about his sex life with former girlfriends. That cemented him in my mind as a permanent douche & hypocrite.

  14. I actually met a clean-shaven Shooter back in the early 2000s (2001/2002 right before his father died). He and his first band StarrGunn swung through Houston and played a show with Cross Canadian Ragweed at a local Honky Tonk. Funny thing is, barely anyone knew who Shooter was and his band (think GnR x10!) was kind of out of place at this particular venue.

My buddies and I got the chance to meet and hang out with Shooter, Lex, Frenchy, and Carter Falco (as well as Cody Canada and the boys from CCR). All were totally chill, down to earth guys. Shooter was VERY young (maybe 19?) and he and his band mates were just out touring trying to make a name for themselves beyond LA and The Viper Room.

Their "tour bus" was a Cargo Van that had been previously owned by a landscaping company and still had the residual decals from that business. Shooter and the boys made several trips out to the van that night and copious amounts of smoke would soon fill the air outside the van.

Anyway, since meeting Shooter way back then, he had always held a place of respect with me and it's been kind of cool to see his music and style evolve from hard rock to outlaw country.

Sorry for the long post, but it's the first time I've seen Shooter's name mentioned by Enty.

  15. I bought Shooter Jennings' "Black Ribbons" because I knew Stephen King was involved. Not really my type of music, but a VERY cool concept (and CD!) and he just seems to be a really smart guy who has a lot to say. I've got a lot of respect for him as a human being, if nothing else. And his hating JM is just the cherry on top! L

    @ Annabella: what's so funny about what I said? I didn't know I was such a comedian.

There's nothing to suggest that the two know each other. If Shooter does know JM, it would have given clarity to his rant if he had said so.

All Shooter's music suggests is he sees himself as one of those gosh-awful 'just keeping it real' dodos who crap on anyone who doesn't think the way they do. No thanks, those kind of people tend to be just as arrogant as those they criticize.

To each their own, but I'll pass on that sort of attitude.

  19. one mans fake is another mans real. every single day we are trying to validate our existence and see what we are really about. everyone does this in different ways. for some it's studying to get an a on a test or working harder to get a pay raise or a promotion. for others it's buying a house in Montana. who really gives a shit. and because this guy says john is fake that makes it gospel? aren't we all just figuring it out? and just because he seems other guitarists to be better than John, doesn't make John a bad player.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @hollywood no, it's not that JM is fake because SJ says so. It's because he just is, and it's SO obvious. I'm sorry you can't see it; it's blindingly obvious to the rest of us!

  21. @katsm, I wonder if you knew anyone in my ex's family. He and his three brothers all went to Fairfield Prep, but they were friends with people at Fairfield High. Ex-bf graduated in '01 and his older brother in '99.

  22. @cee kay plea please don't be 'sorry' that I don't feel the need to judge and label a person that I DON'T KNOW as fake, real or otherwise. there seems to be a lot if sheep going in here lately and no one is allowed a different OPINION. I'd hate to see what a bunch of strangers would have to say about how we live our lives based in seeing 10% of it. If anything feel sorry for yourself that you need to hate somebody else to make yourself feel less lame.

  26. I had no idea who Shooter Jennings even was until I read these comments. Mr. SJ might be a good guy but as someone coming into this blind (as it were), it looks to me like he's picking a fight for publicity's sake. Which... well, it worked, didn't it? :-/

  27. @hollywood dime, I see and really like your point about how we're all trying to figure out who we are. Some figure it out early, others of us are seekers our whole lives. I've been called "inauthentic" by a friend who didn't like some changes I'd made.

  28. Burn!!

Maybe Mayer put the moves on Drea?

  29. Anonymous9:15 AM

I don't hate Mayer. I don't like him, either. In the end, he doesn't matter to me. He doesn't impact my life. If I read an article about where he's been a jerk, then I have a semi-informed opinion on that. But I really don't know the man.

In the end, we really don't know any of these celebrities. Or anyone else, for that matter. Quite often, we don't even know ourselves. So forming harsh opinions can be counter-productive.

I would love to see that scenario .. Drea would tear Mayer to pieces if he got out of line!

  31. John Mayer will never stop giving interviews because then he would never be able to talk about himself, which is his favorite subject.

In every interview I've ever read he disses people left and right. He also thinks that he is terribly clever.

  32. After Continuum, it went all downhill for JM. Even Steve Jobs politely called him a douche and that's saying a lot.

  33. This makes me feel old. A long time ago I worked part time in a small local toy shop in one of the more affluent suburbs of Nashville and I remember Shooter and his mom coming in and that was the wildest kid I ever dealt with--he tore the place up, lol!

  34. well, i now officially love shooter jennings.

  35. John Mayer is a douche and a half. Shooter Jennings has gone up a few places in my book after this.
    Waylon is God.

  36. it's amazing how well respected John was pre Jessica Simpson. I think John might have a touch of autism. He moved to Montana for his health due to his vocal chords and im sure trying to find a way back into good graces of the public by just shutting up for a year.

Which, I do give him credit for shutting up for a year, he did have an album to promote so he had to do the publicity tour for it since he couldn't sing due to his vocals being shot again.

John's "country phase" was goofy it's not him and Shooter was just calling him out for being a poser, he deserved it. I'm sure John cares while he is banging Katy Perry in his NYC penthouse looking at his 20 million dollar watch collection.

I agree Erin. I didn't care about him before really. I even thought it was kind of sweet how he wrote your body is a wonderland, and the first hit about I want to run through the halls of highschool, etc. He seemed like a decent person, until I read the Gavin Degraw blind reveal and realised that all the sensitive singer songwriter artsy guys are just completely slimey man whores who are duping young girls in to thinking they're deep and sensitive so they can bang as many as possible. If you just want to be a man whore then advertise yourself clearly, like the jersey shore guys, it's the undercover ones that really bother me.

  38. Gavin DeGraw blind item?? Can someone enlighten me?

  39. I have an unnatural love for Shooter's song "Fourth of July" so he will always be tops in my book. What's sad is that I hate that JM became a dbag, because I thought he was talented. I have an MP3 of him singing Why Georgia Why with Brad Paisley from a CMT Crossroads ep, and his voice when he comes into the song...holy hell. So good. He's gone to crap now, and that makes me sad.

    Which Gavin DeGraw blind?

  44. For all those who are posting about how "sweet" JM is, I suggest that you don't google "Super Duper Cooper" - it's an old Ted blind, but it's one of the few that doesn't involve someone being secretly gay.

    ReplyDelete
  45. i'm hoping that what comes to light is what drove him to say it. it's a sweet story, and i never imagined it would've come from shooter, whom i'd always blown off just a whatevs lazy stoner. turns out the guy is chivalrous to a fault. i like that.

  50. redfishbluefish - I also have an unnatural love for that song! It's my understanding that he wrote it about when he and Drea drove cross country with their older Great Dane when she got the role as Matt LaBlanc sister on his sitcom.

Love Shooter, loved Waylon, love Jessie (Coulter, his mom). If John Mayer thinks he's this generations "Neil Young", he can fuck. right. off. He wishes!

Always thought JM was a big time douche, but that is the point of no return for me!

  51. Shooter's just being a Mean Girl. He's the kid of celebrities and grew up in studios and probably watched just as much TV in the suburbs as John Mayer did when growing up. I kind of doubt Shooter did much cattle ropin' and sleeping on the range to earn his hat and boots unless it was at a kids' summer camp. I don't why musicians have to tear each other down and snipe at each other all the time. But they do.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mayer us w gigantic douchebag. I don't care how "country" Shooter actually is, I still found this quite true. Also this is a gossip site, where we read ridiculous things about celebrities, and then discuss it. Most of the blogs contain judgmental views towards these people, so I don't know why you are so appalled that the readers do as well.

  53. Blah, I meant is a gigantic douchebag

  54. I am not at all familiar with Shooter Jennings, but don't see why he doesn't have just as much right to call John Mayer out for his douche-ness as the rest of us. What, it's fine for us on this site to point out the hypocrisy of JM claiming to be done with the Hollywood game then immediately hooking up with Katy Perry but because Shooter Jennings has some small measure of fame himself he can't do the same?
