Your Turn

What kind of stuffing do you have on Thanksgiving? If you are inviting me over, just know in advance that I will eat traditional bread stuffing, cornbread stuffing, oyster stuffing or any other product you call stuffing.

  2. I'm making a crayfish stuffing with collard greens.

  3. Thanksgiving is all about the stuffing for me. I use Peppridge Farm herb seasoned breadcrumbs, lots of butter, and broth that I make using the turkey giblets, onions and celery. I stuff the bird and I make an extra pan of stuffing. Can't wait!

  4. Traditional bread stuffing but we add sausage to it. And oyster dressing, because it's not a holiday without far too many choices and carbs.

  5. This is probably a little weird but we put chorizo and tomato paste in our stuffing. It's still stuffing consistency it's just a bit more flavorful.

  6. I make dressing, not stuffing as it's almost impossible to get the stuffing cooked to the correct internal temp without overcooking the turkey. I'd rather err on the side of caution and cook it in a separate casserole dish.

Anyway, I make a home made cornbread dressing with sausage, onions, carrots, celery, apples, walnuts, and raisins.

  7. Stuffing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving:) I go regular pepperage farm with sausage and onions and celery - I can't friggin' wait - I would make just stuffing if I could get away with it!!!

  11. Traditional bread stuffing, I will lay country white and wheat all over the house to dry it out tonight, combined with celery, onions, cooked and chopped giblets, with homemade turkey stock. It really is my favorite part of the meal.

  12. I have spent the past four Thanksgivings alone, so no stuffing for me :/ darn job.

My family always makes this French stuffing that has been passed down through my Pepere, his Pepere, his Pepere, and so on. I prefer it to any other stuffing; it is made mostly with meat and spices with some veggies thrown in there. Delicious!

My stuffing this year will consist of large amounts of pot and probably a bag of wine. Drown my holiday sorrows in booze and bad Christmas movies.

  13. My husband makes spicy sausage and potato stuffing- it's addictive!

  15. I will be making a straight of feast y'all. Home made bacon stuffing. Bacon Brussel sprouts. And maybe some bacon on my bird. Along with cranberries, horseradish mashed potatoes, cheesecake and shortbread with cranberries. But the stuffing and Brussel sprouts are my fav!

  17. my mom makes my grandmothers dressing. It's a rural Virginia recipe using white bread toasted. I'll get the recipe when mom passes. I had her write it down becuase she makes it from her head.

  18. I make my grandmother's stuffing - secret ingredients are pork sausage and turkey gizards. LOVE IT!

Normally I just use Stove Top, but I just tried a recipe a couple of weeks ago, "Harvest Stuffing Skillet", that came out great, so I'm considering doing that instead. It has onion, celery, stuffing, apples, dried cranberries, and sausage. I used turkey sausage and thought the flavors mixed really well.

  20. Traditional bread stuffing mixed partially with Pepperidge Farm stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cornbread dressing all the way! This year I'm going to try adding sausage.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Going out on a limb this year with bread-based Pancetta & Sage Stuffin' Muffins. That's right, portable single serving stuffing.

If it freezes well it may be a dream come true. We shall see.

  23. I make a rye bread stuffing that's heavy on celery, onions, sage and Jimmy Deans breakfast sausage. YUMMY! I was going to skip it this year cuz we're on a low carb diet, but heck with that. It's just a meal...or 2 or 3. :)

  24. mashed potatoe and bread crumbs (real bread not packaged crumbs) with summer savory and onions....YUM

    ReplyDelete
  25. Stove Top. Just add water and a half a stick of butter.

  30. I'm a stovetop fan myself but this year my parents will be beachbound to celebrate NON turkey (allergic) day with me so it'll be a baked chicken w/ traditional and stovetop mixed together. and of course mom's homemade coleslaw, my garlic mash potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce etc.

stovetop, all the time, every time.

  32. My grandmothers stuffing!! Its cornbread I think but she puts a lot of pepper in it.

OT- but since I'm stuck in bed, what are some good tv shows on Netflix I can get into? I've watched Once Upon a Time, United States of Tara, and am watching Weeds now but almost through.

  35. bobbi, do you like '70s sitcoms? "Taxi," "WKRP in Cincinnati" -- although you'll only find the first season of that one, I believe -- "The Partridge Family"...all fun guilty pleasures. I can't get enough of '70s anything lately. Don't know why!

You could plow through all five seasons of "Mad Men" in no time, too. Even if you're a big fan, watch 'em again. ;-)

Do they have "Raising Hope"? Adorable and irreverent show! I love it, and I don't have class so I get to watch it tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  36. (And the Thanksgiving tie-in for "WKRP" is of course "Turkeys Away." Who else will be watching it this year?!)

@bobbi! You're back! How are you doing? I've been worried about you!

What kind of shows do you like? I'm a bit of a tv junkie, let me share my useless knowledge. =)

  38. Stuffing is my favorite dish for Thanksgiving: Seasoned bread crumbs, diced green apples, Craisins, pecans, wild rice, sweet onions, vegetable broth, celery and various herbs and seasonings.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seasoned bread cubes, onion, celery, tart apple, pineapple, raisins. YUM!

  40. @bobbi Sherlock is really great, The Walking Dead is a must see, and if you are a sucker for teen shows The Vampire Diaries is also pretty good.

Revenge, Parenthood, Freaks and Geeks, American Horror Story, Scandal, and the British versions of Shameless and Being Human are also pretty good.

  41. I grew up thinking there was only one way to make stuffing. That's dried bread, celery, onions, herbs and broth. I was horrified to learn that people put sausage, nuts or fruit in their stuffing! And you MUST stuff the turkey with it! I do not understand people who claim it doesn't cook properly unless you overcook the bird. I have never served a dry turkey in my life, and my stuffing is awesome.

  42. Bobbi- Seinfeld is a classic! X files, curb your enthusiasm, entourage is pretty good. I like to watch movie series like Indian Jones, Planet of the Apes, Lord of the Rings and even terminator. :) hope you are feeling better.

  43. Chorizo-cornbread stuffing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't watched Revenge, Mad Men, or Amerucan Horror Story( I tried to watch AHS in the hosp but I think I was too high to understand what the hell was going on) and some of the others.
JSierra I love Sherlock!! I will check out the other British shows you recommended BBC shows are my secret vice.

Keep the movies or shows coming cause I'm not sleeping so all I can do is watch tv. My husband said this is the most his PS3 has ever been used.

  45. I'm with you Enty, I'll eat pretty much any stuffing.

On a separate note, years ago the comic-musician Mojo Nixon had a song about MTV VJ Martha Quinn called "Stuffing Martha's Muffin." That always made me alugh.

  46. We've already had Thanksgiving up here in Canada, but yeah, stuffing rocks!!

My stuffing isn't anything extraordinary, but my family likes Thanksgiving leftover hot sandwiches stacked with: turkey, stuffing, scalloped potatoes and cranberry sauce slathered in lots of gravy.

I make extra gravy when I cook the turkey so there's always lots left.

    ReplyDelete
  47. cc423, you'd better put out an extra place setting, I think Enty will want some of that!

I'm in charge of the German Chocolate cake, but someone gave me a dressing recipe with walnuts, apples, and dried cranberries that I'm going to try out on my little Indians and Pilgrims.

  48. After all these years, i have made or trued dizens of stuffings, but i cant top stove top. Now my mom used pepperidge farm dry mix, sauted onions in butter, and lots of water. Best stuffing EVER. Now sounds easy, right? After 20 yrs, ive not been able to duplicate it! Lol. Also, ironically, due to bizarre disease i hv, i can no longer eat it!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. And its true, everybody's stuffing sounds awesome!!!!!!! Everybody enjoy!!!!!!!!!

  50. Bobbi: DOWNTON ABBEY

    beyond gorgeous. and addictive

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh, and Cornbread stuffing.

and now a new one (possibly):

UrbanChaos: could I have the recipe for spicy sausage and potato stuffing? (ONLY If you want to share) :-)

That sounds amazingly awesome, and will make it to the table on Saturday (which is when we are having TDay, because of work schedules).

I tried one with lots of dried fruit, and I was the only one who appreciated it. So maybe 3 this year? I dunno...

  53. I wanna eat at Janet and Lola's place. Seriously love oyster stuffing. My ex MIL made it (God rest her beautiful soul) and it was mama Paula awesome. God I miss that wonderful woman.

  54. AndrewBW: Hey! Someone else remembers Mojo Nixon! I saw him many times back in the days, and he always put on a hell of a show; you were pretty much guaranteed to damn near piss your pants laughing at some point during the night. (To this day, I wish I had a recording of a show he did at the Paradise in Boston back in late '88, just before I moved to GA--he went off in the middle of "I'm In Love With Your Girlfriend" and started telling this tale that involved, among other things, Oprah naked in a motel room w/Geraldo stuck up her ass. Trust me, you HAD to be there...)

Oh, and it was always Bell's stuffing mix growing up; my sister in Alaska is so insistent on having it that we've had to mail it up to her every year (apparently it's hard to find outside New England). Where I'm going Thursday always puts grapes in their stuffing, for some odd reason...not really my thing, but whatever...

  55. Bobbi, happy to hear you are home and on the mend! Besides all the other awesome suggestions (downton abbey and breaking bad are on my list for my winter break from work!), how about the first season of Girls, Boardwalk Empire or the Sopranos if you haven't seen them. Or one of my all time favorites, Buffy the vampire slayer? Take care of yourself and heal.
    To everyone else, happy Thanksgiving!

  56. Day old baguette, brioche, chanterelle and black trumpet mushrooms and chunks of foie gras.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I've never understood stuffing. It just seems to give me indigestion. My grandmother apparently used to make oyster stuffing, but that was before my time. Maybe I just haven't had the right kind of stuffing. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  58. Oh, bobbi -- time to rewatch "Black Adder"! Or perhaps "A Bit of Fry and Laurie"?
