Jay Leno Is Luring Jimmy Fallon Into His Trap

Jimmy Fallon is one of the best things on television each night so there is no surer way to ruin his career than by letting it leak that he is being considered to replace Jay Leno when Jay's contract runs out in 2014. Yeah, the next thing you know, Jimmy will be on ABC Family hosting his talk show at 1am while Jay Leno continues to host the Tonight Show through 2024 and we all have to get used to someone else hosting Late Night. Jimmy is young enough where he does not really hold the program in the same regard as people older than him so he would probably like the job but not die for the job the way Leno would. There is no way that Leno is going to walk away quietly in 2014. None.

    Leave Jimmy Alone!!!

  2. Jimmy should go see Coco for a reminder of how things went for him and then keep on doing what he is doing. Jay Leno is a soulless creep.
He doesn't need to work anymore but his big ego won't let him quit to make room for newer talent.

  4. Jay Leno creeps me out, never understood what NBC saw in him. Of course, no one could have replaced Johnny Carson completely.

  5. I'm sorry but why is it that not having a "need" to work means you have to quit your job? There are many people who don't "need" to work but WANT to work and enjoy their work. There are many people who have more money than they need but continue to work because it fulfills them.

And I like Jimmy - hope he does well wherever he is.

Conan was the perfect replacement. Jimmy is funny, but IMO, a step down form Conan. He is creative, but awkward with interviews.

  7. Hah. This is like that episode of Louis! Leno is ruthless.

  8. The other night, I found a VHS tape with the last 2 Late Night w/ Conan episodes on it. It was so sad seeing Conan & his guests talk about what a nice, generous, great guy Leno is, knowing what eventually happened.
    Fuck Jay Leno.

Hi guy's this is Harvey, I've got a new screen name and avi, (thanks for the suggestion Jax!)and I love me some Karen Walker!

Doesn't Jay do this every few years? Talk about retiring then gets a big raise?

  10. I have to ask, does Leno for some reason think he's Johnny Carson reincarnated?
Just because NBC shat themselves over some piss poor programming choices, then bent over backwards trying to clean up their mess, suddenly Leno is the Second Coming of Carson?
How can you take yourself seriously when you actively bomb anyone who threatens or might threaten what you perceive as your "rightful place" in the late night pantheon?

  11. I can't watch Jay Leno. I can't. His obsequious ass-kissing makes my skin crawl and his "comedy" segments are patently UNfunny.

  12. Its funny how people stil lhold Johnny Carson in high regard when in actuality he was an alcoholic wife-beater who turned on his friend Joan Rivers when she decided to step out his shadows and try leading her own show.

  14. Jay Leno, on the other hand, is the worst thing on TV every night and like Matt Lauer, should be kicked off TV for good for the sake of good humor.

    But hey, that's just me.

  15. Borg Queen, I was speaking of Johnny the Entertainer, not who Johnny was in his personal life.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @BorgQueen:
Not saying that Carson was the epitome of late-night talent, however given the length of his run, he's still the standard bearer, personal life aside.
And yes, I agree with you that he also set the business model with Joan that Leno is trying to emulate with anyone who might be a threat.

  17. @Agent - I noticed. They've posted under a diff name before, but I can't place it!

  18. Nice, @anastasia.....love the reference!

  19. @BorgQueen - I had forgotten about all that - thanks for the reminder!

And actually, any one of these guys, Conan, David Letterman, et al, they all don't "need" to work - they all have more money than you or I ever will.

  20. LMAO that picture of Leno is like the one of Homer when he's on the tabloid show because of the Gummy Venus. "No Mr. Leno stay away from me get back Mr. Leno NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

  21. Can't stand Big jaw. Never could. Actually felt vindicated when he fucked over Conan because then everybody saw Leno for the duplicitous tool he is. He has actually been making quiet comments about leaving for a few years now - I'll say he does leave in 2014 and about fucking time.

  22. ha. well played.

  23. Agree, also can't watch Leno. Love Letterman, love both Jimmies. I'd be happy to have any of them kick Leno off the air.

  24. I can't stand Jay Leno! I wish he'd just go away. I don't find the Tonight Show funny and have not watched it since Conan was on. The way Jay handled the whole Conan thing was in really bad taste. I'm surprised he can sleep at night. I might watch the Tonight Show if Jimmy is on...but never, ever, ever with Jay.

  26. What, no love for Craigy Ferg on this thread?!

As for Carson and Joan Rivers, I think he was pissed because Joan went behind his back to do her show. She had guest hosted for him and then signed a deal to have her show directly opposite his and did not tell him. He found out when FOX announced it and took it as a personal affront that she didn't tell him herself.

    1. She had found a list of possible replacements for him, and she wasnt on it. So she saw the light and did her own thing. Its show business folks, accent on business.

    2. Bangagong, whatever you say because, as I've said before, I just love your "name". You have inspired me to listen to Robert Palmer..........

  27. Joan was not on the list to replace him ever which is why she took the job. Johnny was an a$$ according to everyone who knew him. (except maybe
Dave who sexually harasses his staff).

  28. @Bangagong - I was about to say the same thing. My favorite is Craig Ferguson. Love love love him!

  29. Slimy Jay Leno needs to stay away from Jimmy. Love Dave, Craig and the Jimmys.

  30. After conan i have zero respect for leno.

  31. Leno had a better contract than Conan and NBC didn't really have a choice.

  32. I dong watch late night tv. Leno doesnt bother me, jimmy is great, the others ive seen- usually from a link to u tube- are ok. Conan failed hugely in that time spot. It wasnt lenos fault. All conan had to do was accept the 12 slot, and gradually people wld hv gotten used to him. But conan went all diva and walked off. He just isnt that funny, and he doesnt hv mass appeal. And didnt he screw lopez out of his time slot and his job? So at least be objective about what happened. Conan was an ass too.

    2. I agree as well, wht conan got was karma slaping him in the face, how quickly we forget wht he did to lopez ( which i dont care for) bt he screw he screw him over as well. I like Jay .

  33. Don't fall for it Jimmy!

Wait for Dave to retire and take his slot.

I wouldn't trust NBC or Leno any farther than I could pick them up and throw them.

  34. I'm sorry but the only way Jay will voluntarily leave that position is in a pine box. NBC is going to have to fire Jay outright for anyone else to have a shot at that position. I can't stand the Tonight Show. Boring as hell.

I cannot stop giggling at your IT'S A TRAP!!!! My daughter has asked me 3 times what I'm laughing at. Ha ha!

    Oh, and
    I love Jimmy Fallon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. @Anastasia Beaverhausen:
One problem with your belief that Leno gets a raise every time his contract comes up: He took a huge pay cut several months ago when Comcrap demanded the firing of much of his staff. The cut was from around $25 million a year to $15 million, just to save their jobs. Even then, he couldn't save all the jobs. NBC owns the show, not Leno.
Letterman makes around $31 million a year & owns both his show & Ferguson's.

And enough with the worshiping of Conan!
Conan tried to get rid of Leno & then when his show stunk it out, blamed Leno at 10PM, even though Conan had the first 6 months of no Leno at 10PM.
Then Conan did to George Lopez what he claims Leno did to him at the end.
In reality, it was NBC that orchestrated the entire mess & would have had to pay Leno something like $145 million to leave the network when Conan took over, then Leno would have gone to ABC after 6 months.
Leno never wanted the 10PM show, NBC forced it on because of his contract. They had first dibs on his services.
Conan could have gone to ABC after 6 months, but instead, foolishly went to TBS, where he is slowly fading away!

  37. It won't matter if Jay stays or goes. Outside of his elderly demo, Jay's ratings will continue to drop because Jimmy Kimmel is now going head to head w/ him. Instead of sacrificing half of one for the other, people can watch both Jimmys. I personally have always watched Letterman, so Jay is a non-factor to me.

  38. CraigyFerg is the best! He's the only one I even watch (but I catch the east coast feed because I do NOT stay up that late).

And agreed, Becca, it's the NBC execs who were the real azzholes in all of this.

  40. I don't ever watch any of those programs, but Jimmy Fallon will always have a special place in my brain after doing a musical skit as a character that's half Bowie-era Ziggy Stardust, half Tim Tebow. It feels like blasphemy to even type that, but somehow it was the most amazing thing ever!

  41. Did anyone actually watch George Lopez's show...?

Jimmy has such a good thing going, I hate to see anything happen to his show
