"The Gift" Keeps On Giving

Thirteen years ago, Katie Holmes appeared topless in the movie The Gift. There is a scene in Harold & Kumar where their two neighbors are waiting anxiously for that scene and won't leave until after it is on. Apparently that brief topless scene was enough for the editors of GQ to name Katie Holmes one of the 60 sexiest women of this millennium. Yeah, she is probably not in most people's top 60. She used to be in mine before the whole Tom cruise thing and there are flashes of it you see sometimes, but she just seems like she is always on the edge. I don't know if the Scientology people are calling her about new programs she might want to try at all hours of the day and night, but she seems on edge. Not normal single mom edge, but something more.

  7. Her flirting diner scene with Timothy Olyphant in the movie "Go" was just about the cutest thing ever. She was irresistible.

Oh and her boobies in The Gift were pretty spectacular too.

  8. Never watched The Gift. Will have to look for it!

  9. "Cute" or "cutest thing ever" is something that's very difficult to take with you as you age. Just ask Meg Ryan.

  10. Enty, the book 'Going Clear' is due out tomorrow. 'Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape' by Jenna Miscavige Hill is due out Feb 5th.Just finished 'The Church of Fear: Inside the Weird World of Scientology' by John Sweeney which came out earlier this month. So, that might have something to do with her edginess and the all night calls to her about how to react. Just sayin'.

  11. She did have a hot body in The Gift. @lazyday603 i LoVE GO and had such a huge crush on Timothy Olyphant because of that movie. He was so sexy in it

  12. @Nutty - A head full of hair is another thing difficult to take with you as you age, depending on your genes. Aging sucks.

  13. Sexiest Women of this millennium? Seriously? A millennium that's only a little over 12 years out of 1000? That's the stupidist idea for a story I've heard of in a while.

  14. That 90's video.. Got You Where I Want You .. Gah!! Katie was painfully beautiful then. I remember looking at her like " what.the.hell. " .. So gorgeous .. She's still lovely now.

  15. I think it has to be an adjustment being a single mom, and who knows what she went through those years with Tom, being under constant scrutiny, knowing "they" are always watching always listening and at the same time trying to your career back on track...
Also if they are bothering her, they are scary people.

  16. I remember at the time thinking they looked bigger than I thought they would be. A great set!

  17. so is this some kind of subtle hint that something nefarious is going on with katie?

sure sounds like it to me.

  18. The Gift was a really good movie and yeah her boobs looked great!

@lazyday, I LOVE the movie GO!!! I now get my Timothy Olyphant fix from Justified. Love me some Raylan Givens! *swoon*

  19. @LazyDay, I agree that all bodies age, but I guess I'm thinking more of Katie's form of appeal, the "cute" girl or the "American Sweetheart"

Actresses who go for the sweetheart image seem to have trouble aging, ie Meg Ryan, Sandra Dee, Tuesday Weld, Alice Faye, Shirley Temple...all the way back to Mary Pickford and her golden curls.

A highly intelligent and/or bitchy image ages better, ie Streep, Jodie Foster, Hepburn.

    1. I love the bitches! What does that say about my personality? I'm always in awe of a fabulous bitch

  20. By trouble aging I mean in a career sense...they have trouble carrying on a mature career. I don't know if they personally had more trouble with the aging process than any other actress.

  21. Well, I'm in the minority here. It wasn't a very good movie. It was one of those movies you would see at the video store that had lots of people in it that you knew, but you had never heard of the it. Then, you watched it, and you knew why you had never heard of it. She had a lousy southern accent in it, and the scene in which she was killed didn't make any sense, since the killer was complaining that her body showed that she had had sex, WHICH SHE HAD NOT DONE BECAUSE SHE HAD BEEN REJECTED.

Still, they were the exact opposite of the Holocaust.

  22. Yeah I think she was pretty hot in that "Got you where I want you" video. The movie wasn't great, but I enjoyed watching her and James Marsden in Disturbing Behavior. They were both pretty sexy!

  23. There are two basic flavors of ingenue appeal: You're either a Ginger or a Mary Ann. Katie Holmes was a Mary Ann. Megan Fox is a Ginger prototype. The best way to sustain a career past the cute/hot years is to make yourself ugly in a third of your films while giving great performances. That's the Michelle Williams/Charlize Thron strategy. They'll both be around long after Esquire Magazine loses interest in their beauty.

  24. Maybe Katie left the fold because she needed antidepressants. Sigh. Who wouldn't?

    Poor Katie . . .

  25. I'm sure the Co$ is harassing her and/or stalking her. Even if they've backed off, how long would it take to feel safe again? That relationship was definitely abusive, just read how Tom treated that girl Nazanin that he dated a few months .
If he was that controlling of a girl he just met then how much more so would he be of his wife? I doubt the "church" has removed their claws from her willingly yet.

  26. I loved the Gift. I saw it when it came out and loved her boobies.

  27. Every time I hear someone, who saw her in person, describe her, the words 'stunning' are used.

  28. First, I thought the headline was referring unkindly to the cold sores she keeps being photographed with. I had forgotten about that movie. I really enjoyed Cate Blanchette in it. But - and I'm about to drop a spoiler alert on a 12 year old movie - it always bothered me that they showed her breasts when they pulled her body out of the water. Like they were trying to make her sexy while dead. Creepy.

  29. I fucking loooove Katie Holmes. Not that I am very familiar with her work - I saw "The gift" like once when I was 9 I think, and I have just recently watched a few eps of Dawsons Creek - but I am just really, really rooting for this woman.

I mean she obviously made her own bed and all that, but imagine how much guts and cunningness it takes to not only outsmart Tom Cruise and the entire, evil organization behind him, but then also to actually gather your shit and RUN!

I'm sure she did it more for her daughter than for anyone, or anything, else. Maybe if it had only been her she'd never had worked up the courage to actually do it - everyone knows that changing your life can be the most terrifying thing of them all. I'd be scared senseless and I'm sure she was (and probably still is) too, but she really did it, you know?

    That's how I see it anyway! :) She's a hero to me.

  30. I liked Timothy in Hitman...

  31. Love that movie. So good!!! I didn't remember she was topless in it!

As for her state of mind? Lay off her!!!! I've left a controlling, abusive husband before and I didn't have the press reporting my every breath. I do believe that actors should expect to lose their privacy, but come on, don't judge her reaction to the nonstop media crapstorm. I'd wager it was damn hard for her to leave at all, let alone create normalcy for her daughter.

  32. I'm pretty sure I watched this with some girl friends after a junior high dance. Those boobies just looked really familiar

  33. Add me to the 'Go' fan club. I thought she was really great in that movie. (Along with everyone else.)

  34. ^Me too! (Scott Wolf <3). ;)

I am sure I have seen this film but I cannot remember a thing about it. I think Katie made more of an impact in Teaching Mrs Tingle.
