Your Turn

If you had to choose between watching the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, which would you pick?

  1. Golden Globes b/c u see the celebs interact and there's also a wider variety of celebs. It's enough to see photos & results of the Oscars.

  2. The freshly painted wall drying.

  3. Globes - drunk celebs and more free atmosphere make it more watch-worthy IMO

  4. Golly I don't think I can make such a hard decision.

  5. golden globes would be slightly more entertaining.

but the academy awards are so pretentious, just watching all the egos in the room is fun.

  6. Globes if Ricky Gervais is hosting. But since Seth Macfarlane is doing the Oscars this year, I would have to go Oscars!

  7. I guess the Golden Globes, but I don't enjoy watching award shows for the most part.

  8. As much as I love the Oscars, I am going to have to say....The Golden Globes. The actors seem more relaxed and having a good time..

  9. GG but only for the hosts. I'm sad Ricky isn't hosting but I enjoy Tina and Amy.

  10. Golden Globes - All awards and acceptance speeches (which is the point of awards shows. Movie stars unscripted). No MOR songs and pointless elaborate dance numbers. And why are a bunch of drunk celebrants at the Golden Globes able to finish in exactly 3 hours at 10:00 PM CST every single year & the Oscars can't seem to finish withing 30 minutes of the scheduled finish time? And still it's the Oscars that cuts off acceptance speeches year in and year out. Hint: Acceptance speeches are what we are watching to see. Let them talk.

  11. That depends.
Which one will you have the mole at this year, Enty?

  12. GG because some of the TV actresses like to really go all out with their fashion and it's hilarious. I'm looking at you Lea Michele.

  13. The Academy Awards. I share Nikki Finke's assessment of the Globes. Yeah, the show is fun, but it's just about which celebs and producers kiss the most Foreign Press Association ass.

Actors grow up dreaming of winning an Oscar. They don't grow up dreaming of winning a Golden Globe.

    GG....

    NO RICKY this year????-------> >:^(

  15. GG - can't wait for Tina and Amy!

  16. Oscar. I'm with @T.E. about the pretension and egos being fun to watch. I also love the gowns!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I rarely watch award shows...

  18. If I was choosing for this year it would definitely be Golden Globes because of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

  19. My friends and i make a weekend here at the beach for the Oscars - have been even before I moved down - me, my cousin and my bestie gays all drunk and disorderly, trashing the outfits. BUT Golden globes are so entertaining because they drink... So i will say - golden globes. As long as I can still have my Oscars weekend (w/out the Oscars)

  20. BOTH!! I love Award shows! I make a floor picnic and drink champagne and hopefully live blog with my CDAN friends!

  21. I like the inclusion of tv and loose atmosphere of the GGs *cough alcohol *cough, but I love the fashion and drama of the Oscars. The Oscars are the Super Bowl of fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Oscars are more exciting, but the production numbers are cringe-inducing. Globes are more intimate and user-friendly. I like to see who's sitting with who at the tables.

  23. Neither. SAGs for the winnah! I've no interest in the make-up, costume, music, writing awards. I want to see the actors. And the SAGs cover TV as well as movies. The show is way more entertaining than the Oscars, although that's not too difficult.

Plus, I think the SAG voters are more competent to judge their peers than the ancient Academy.

  24. I'm too ADD to sit through a whole awards show.

I check the internet for the winners and then watch Fashion Police on Friday to revel in the snark about the fashions.

  25. Globes are better, especially this year with Tina and Amy.

The worst part about any awards show is that cow Joan Rivers. Gotta love someone who looks like that being so nasty.

  26. Really looking forward to the GG this year due to Amy and Tina.

@Laura, are we live this year? Has anyone talked to Enty about it?

  27. Globes. Not so pretentious like the Oscars. And its for TV too.

    Oscars

  29. No mention of the Independent Spirit Awards? That event is far more entertaining then either of them. Seth Rogan killed it as host last year.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Neither; I don't watch awards shows, I think they're boring.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Add me to the list of people who doesn't watch award shows. Yawn.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Golden Globes. Their nominations seem to be more in tune with what the movie-going, ticket-buying public like. The Oscar members continue to ignore the highest grossing movies (such as The Avengers) for best picture when obviously many millions of people thought they were the "best" movies.

Neither, both are a total snore.

  34. All these award shows are boring. Name me one other profession that self-congratulates itself like that. Medicine? The legal profession? Teachers? One, maybe two award events a year. I refuse to watch these narcissistic idiots congratulate each other.

  35. alcohol + time limit - Bruce Vilanch = Globes, FTW

  36. Is death not an option? Man, I hate awards shows.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Globes for the alcohol, tv people in addition to the movie people and this year, Amy and Tina. But I don't miss the oscars either, and I make a party out of both! Love an awards show night....

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't care to watch. I might watch a few minutes of both to see what everyone is wearing.

Wonder if Angie is going to kick out her leg again...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Golden Globes seems livelier. The Academy Awards seems like everyone is on Ritalin or something.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Globes for two reasons. 1) Drinking. 2) I prefer television to film.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The Academy Awards, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I typically watch the Oscars but the GG's are going to be my "go to" this year with the girls hosting. Also as previoulsy mentioned, the musical numbewrs are cringe inducing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This year, I'd have to choose the GG's for Tina and Amy. Plus the fact that it's TV as well so more variety.

In reality, I will probably watch both.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Globes - everyone's table-hopping, drinking, flirting and loose.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Normally the GG but I'm really excited to see Seth macfarlanre host the Oscars this year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Usually I like the Globes better for the inclusion of both movies AND tv, and the looser atmosphere. This year I'm so so excited for the Globes because of Tina and Amy!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like them both, but I will also agree that the Globes is usually a bit more entertaining.
