Blind Item #5
This actress is probably D list now. A few years ago she was just about A list. She was on a very hit network television show and had just been cast as the lead in a popcorn flick that went on to make hundreds of millions of dollars. She never got to shoot that movie though because she overdosed on the set of the show. The overdose part was kept quiet, but she was quietly asked to leave the show and the movie role went to someone else who has become an A list all movie actress.

ReplyDeleteCan Mischa sing? Don't know why, and am not even sure if it fits but Amanda Seyfried and Mama Mia come to mind.
ReplyDeleteMischa is a go to guess. Enty always seems to know a heck of a lot about that chick. I always liked her and she seems to be looking happy---although her career could be better. But hey at least shes working. Didn't she overdose at Nicole Richies house/

ReplyDeleteBy the time Mischa left, The OC wasn't really a huge hit anymore and I don't think she had been cast in any major popcorn flicks.
Other than Twilight/KS, are there any popcorn flicks where a young actress got their big break/became A list?
Btw, given all the craziness we know about the Twilight set/the intense tween interest from day 1 of production, I think if there had been a Bella other than KS who actually showed up on set and then got fired, we'd know.

ReplyDeleteIn investigating Twilight, I discovered that Courtney Love says Francis was offered the Bella role. Of course no one else has said that, and I really don't think it's Francis, but I thought this trivia was amusing.
Probably Mischa Barton, but could also be Samaire Armstrong. She left Dirty Sexy Money to go into rehab. She might still be higher than D though since she works quite a bit now.

ReplyDelete@ Karen -- So sorry! You're totally correct, I read it wrong. It could be someone who was supposed to play Bella then... although it still seems unlikely to me that the "first pick" for such a visible role wouldn't have gotten any press at all.

ReplyDelete@ Derek -- Where did you hear that about Mischa/TDWP? That would be a good guess, if true... but google turns up nothing.
ReplyDeleteOlivia Thirlby is ht leading lady in a movie that's in post production. I think that would make her at least C+ list. Plus she was pretty good in Dredd.
ReplyDeleteI just checked IMDB when Mischa left OC and The Devil Wears Prada began production a few months later and it was Anne Hathaways first big movie----just a guess though
ReplyDeleteI think that's a very good guess, not only for the timing and other clues fitting, but because I can totally picture Mischa being seen as perfect for that part (before she became a public hot mess).
DeleteThe Twilight movies have made billions, not hundreds of millions. I don't think KStew is the lucky benefactor here. Besides she had some recognition for good work in Adventure Land and Panic Room before Twilight came along.

ReplyDeleteI THINK a "popcorn movie" is some kind of blockbuster that's overly hyped with a fairly mindless plot. It's often an action film, and it may have a big summer or holiday release. Am I correct?
ReplyDeleteNot to split hairs but The OC was not a hit "network" show. Enty has always referred to that show as being on an almost network.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Kellie Martin? She was rather shockingly killed off of ER out of the blue...went from a high profile NBC show back to doing tv movies.

ReplyDeleteThe O.C. was on FOX. That's a network. The CW is the only "almost network" I can think of. Kellie Martin chose to quit ER because it brought back too many memories of her sister being in the hospital. I think Mischa is the best guess, but I don't know of any movies she was cast in.

Michelle Trachtenberg was supposed to get the role of Bella. It never happened for "some reason." She was friends with the first director and on Gossip Girl at the time I believe.

2. A popcorn movie is lightweight as opposed to serious. An example of a lightweight film is "Dude, Where's My Car" (2000). An example of serious films are "Citizen Kane" (1941) and "Regarding Henry" (1991).

I'm with Unknown on this one. As soon as someone mentioned Twilight I thought of Michelle Trachtenberg, who was on Gossip Girl and considered for the part of Bella.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Twilight. To me it reads like a single hit movie, not a franchise. I like the Emma Stone/ Easy A guess. Or Emma Stone/ Zombieland. Was anyone else up for those roles?
ReplyDeleteRe: Zombieland, this is all I can find so far: "Both Evan Rachel Wood and Megan Fox turned down the role of Wichita, while Amber Tamblyn auditioned. " Don't think it's any of them. It does say that Emma Stone was originally cast as "406." Maybe she was bumped up after someone else got canned.
