Steve Martin Is A Dad And Other Baby News Including Jamie Lynn Sigler

Steve Martin and his wife had a baby back in December but somehow managed to keep it a secret until now. To me, that just shows that unless you want constant press attention, you can avoid it and live your life and excuses that the press and paps make it impossible for privacy is just crap. I have said it before and will say it again. Acting is one of the only jobs where you have to sell yourself constantly and getting lots of press creates buzz. Therefore, they will never stop trying to promote themselves and will keep calling paps and letting them know where they are and they will walk a million red carpets and go to a million events and pray everyday people recognize them. This is the first baby for either of them.

In other baby news, after just being engaged for two weeks, Jamie Lynn Sigler announced she and her soon to be husband are expecting a baby. See what I mean about publicity?

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem confirmed their second pregnancy. Everyone already knew that one.

Alec & Hilaria Baldwin confirmed they are expecting a baby. Everyone already knew that.

  1. Aw, I heart Steve Martin. Someone asked him once about being rich and famous, and he said something along the lines of "the rich I'll take, the fame I could do without."

  5. This is why I have zero sympathy for celebs who complain about their lack of privacy.

  6. I love Steve Martin. I just feel like he'll be an amazing dad, based solely on his roles in Father of the Bride and Cheaper by the Dozen.

  9. I love Steve Martin too, but is anyone going to mention the fact that he'll be almost 68 by the time the baby is born? He'll be 85 (if he lives that long) by the time the kid graduates high school.

  10. why did he wait so long to become a father? How soon you all forget that Anne Heche called him out for using the casting couch on her

  11. I'd like to announce that I am NOT expecting a baby! ;)

Congrats to Steve, I love him!

  12. @it took forever - i'm generally not someone to minimize sexual assault claims, but let's keep in mind that anne heche is a known pathological liar and is batshit crazy.

  15. No one even knows the gender of Steve Martin's baby. The baby allegedly was born in December. It's from a Page Six article. I wonder if he really had a kid. Some "source" mentioned it to them. Here is the link: http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/steve_wild_and_crazy_dad_Ziq4vQ7zcToflzSvy2uu4J

  16. Good for Steve, I have always loved him.
Dolly Parton is another example of how a celebrity can live a private life without revealing everything, or anything for that matter.

  17. I was just reading the DM article about the baby and it says 'they worked hard' to have the baby, so either a lot of IVF, surrogacy or adoption...
Best of luck to them, its nice when people don't sell images... Now, how long before he gets his figure back ;-)

  18. Wasn't Penelope pregnant again shortly after her son was born? I felt like it was all but confirmed and then never talked about again. Oh well, mazel tov to all of them!

  19. @curly-Congrats on Non-Expecting!

    I love The Jerk.

  20. I love Steve Martin.

@ittookforever - Anne Heche had a case of the delusions for a while....I'm not sure I would instantly believe her without another source of confirmation. Even another casting couch story from a different person would be a start.

  21. I always wondered why he didn't have kids. Congrats to them. I ADORE Steve!

  22. I'd disagree with some of that, Enty--it does seem to me that people who are currently A Big Deal to some degree tend to get papped whether or not they encourage it. One can definitely lead a more private life by being low-key, going about one's business, and not tipping off the press as to one's every movement, certainly; however, there will always be some degree of papping going on no matter what, because when one hits that level of celebrity, it's almost impossible to avoid it. (I'm remembering a pap photo in US a few years back of Julianne Moore taking out her trash--she doesn't seem to seek out attention in her day-to-day life, but clearly someone thought photos of her hauling a Hefty Bag were worth the trouble of staking her out.) I can also understand why celebs who aren't actively courting the paps will still dress up a bit more and "pose" more than they might ordinarily once they're aware of the cameras pointed their way; they probably figure that, if pictures are going to be taken anyway, they may as well at least look decent in them.

Celebrity is truly a double-edged sword--yes, you can get access and favors you wouldn't get as a civilian, but you also get a hell of a lot more crap from people; it's not an unalloyed blessing. I'm not sitting around thinking "Oh, poor, poor celebrities," mind you, just recognizing that, once again, it's not a black-and-white issue, but one w/many, many shades of gray.

    1. @Robin - I disagree. Remember, TMZ stands for Thirty-Mile-Zone, referencing the area around LA. If you spend most of your time in New York or LA, where there are lots of paps around, you will get papped a lot. If you live in, say, Hailey, Idaho, you get left the fuck alone because the locals don't stand for the circus coming to town. People who truly want to live a private life do. I get that it takes a certain level of fame to no longer need to be available for gigs that just pop up, but still. Another example is the cast from Supernatural. That show is a big deal but you don't see them getting hounded all the time. Ditto for Jim Parsons. He is the star of the biggest show on television but almost never gets papped. I would bet the Julianne Moore shot was one of opportunity - a pap happened to be around when they noticed that was her taking the trash out. Which goes back to choosing where to live carefully. If you live in a neighborhood in LA or New York that has a high concentration of celebrities you will have a correspondingly high number of photographers.

  23. Best wishes to Steve and his wife.

I saw The Jerk a couple of weeks ago at my niece's birthday party. Hilarious. They don't (and can't) make movies like that any more.

  24. I follow Steve Martin on Twitter. Interesting how the other night, he RTd something about kids and then commented that he "hates" them ... I'll see if I can find it.

  25. Oops, not hates them, can't stand them. This is from Feb 9:

    Steve Martin ‏@SteveMartinToGo

Can't stand 'em. RT @KillerQueen09: @SteveMartinToGo Steve would you bear my children please? :-)

  26. That baby is in line to inherit one helluva an art collection, assuming that Steve doesn't donate most of it in his will.

  27. so when the kid is 10 daddy will be 77...poor kid.

  28. I really wonder about Steve Martin having a kid. He's never really been into them. Maybe his wife wanted one.

Robin Williams lives in Marin, California without much fuss. His late brother owns a winery in Sonoma, and he shows up all the time without anyone bothering him.

  29. @Robin & Lucas - I think you both make very good points. It is possible to avoid the paps (unless you're a royal, haha) but current Big Deal Actors (tx, RMP) and current Train Wrecks are stalked by paps. I imagine Jim Parsons isn't papped because, well, who follows a nerdy guy who is openly gay and will probably make a joke that the poor pap wouldn't get?

  30. Anne Heche and Steve Martin dated for about two years (1995-1997). How long was that casting process?
