Four For Friday- The Gay Fling That Broke Up A Marriage

It is Friday. Good Friday to be exact. Working on no sleep and not getting the day off from work is making for a very long morning. I have thought about going to sleep on the sofa in my office, but I'm sure the snoring would give away my plan. Somehow I will suck it up and be back again tomorrow and on Easter Sunday. Tomorrow will see some blind item reveals. One or two at least. Maybe more, depending on how easy it is to find some in the archives. I'm getting closer to the 20K followers on Twitter for a very juicy blind item reveal. If you would like to follow me on Twitter I am @entylawyer. There are lots of photos and Tweets on there from my very late night last night. The fact that I made it home alive speaks volumes about my booze tolerance.

This couple is a solid B list. I call them a couple but they split up shortly after a movie was filmed. Not a huge movie by any stretch, but it did feature an Academy Award nominee/winner or two. It starred an A list mostly movie actor. He has always kind of explored both sides of the fence when it comes to relationships, but does not generally hook up with men like this B list mostly movie actor who has a memorable name, but you would be hard pressed to identify all of his movies. They all kind of seem the same. His ex-wife has had a more varied career. Also B list, mostly in movies she has shown a greater range of characters. The wife was on the set and walked into the trailer of her husband and found her husband and the A list actor in full on sex mode. By the time the movie had wrapped, our actress had filed for divorce. Must have not been too big a shock though considering what happened later. I had to look up the movie because I never knew the A list actor had done anything remotely like this movie. Shows you how popular it was.

  3. I feel like Velvet Goldmine has something to do with this but I'm too exhausted to figure out the details :)

  4. Could "considering what happened later" be a reference to a movie where the actor played a gay character?

  5. I've got nothing. I'm thinking the movie is probably something along the lines of "Mars Attacks!", but it's not "Mars Attacks!" Already checked; nothing fits except the multiple award-winners in it

  10. Probably best to concentrate on B list couples that have split then track a suitable movie. Unfortunately this blind could be from something several years ago.

  12. The Kilmer's, Joanne Walley and Val Kilmer who divorced shortly after he filmed:
-The Island of Dr. Moreau with Marlon Brando
    -Heat with Al Pacino
-The Ghost and The darkness with Michael Douglas

  17. For some reason I'm stuck on that recent "Playing For Keeps" movie with Gerard Butler as the A list mostly movie actor and SZJ for the oscar winner/nominee but I can't quite make it work, though I like the image of Dennis Quaid and Gerard Butler having sex and Meg Ryan walking in.

  18. Movie: AdventureLand

    A List Actor: Jesse Eisenberg
    B list Actor: Ryan Reynolds
    B List Ex Wife: ScarJo

I like Sara's guess. I was also thinking Colin Farrell fits for the A lister that plays on both sides of the fence.

  22. @Sara: nice guess (i'm not sure it fits but it's interesting)

  23. So, based on something that happened later, the wife was probably not shocked at finding her husband having gay sex? I'm trying to imagine a circumstance where this makes sense. Something that came out during divorce proceedings? Like maybe he was always wanting her to dress like a guy, or he wanted a guy to join them in the bedroom, something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought Val Kilmer had an affair with Drew Barrymore, which is why his marriage broke up?

Love Val, even though he is a bit crazy. Hoping for a Val comeback ala The Doors era.

  26. Players seem to be:
    1. B-List actor with memorable name, leans towards men, married to
    2. B-List actress with a more varied career than her husband's
    3. A-List actor who is bi (not clear if this is public knowledge)

#2 finds #1 with #3, files for divorce before movie's wrapped (and certainly before movie's release).

Something that happens later makes circumstances under which divorce came about less of a shock.

This one is muy intriguing. No guesses but I want to see the followup on this one. *clicks "Email follow-up comments"*

  35. Does Jude Law, and Sadie Frost or Sienna Miller fit some way?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think the "..because of what happened later" must mean he either came out, but I'm stumped. The one great thing that came out of all this though is the idea of Dermot Mulroney and Colin Farrell as possibly playing for both teams. I'd pay GOOD MONEY to watch them go at it...or even more to be involved in the 3-way!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooh.. Love the Kilmer guess. Way to think about of the typical box!

  38. Bradley Cooper/Jennifer Espinosa
Movie: White Hot Summer (or something along that line)
He had a scene with someone else who's since became famous, I just can't think of his name.

@ VIP & Alicia, agreed! Freeway is far & away my favorite Reese Witherspoon & Kiefer Sutherland movie. Kiefer was so supremely creepy in that movie. Such a well written script.

As far as the blind Val Kilmer is a possibility. I remember reading what Adam Lambert said about the play he was in with Val years before American Idol, not specifically about him but still:

  40. There were a lot of actors in Wet Hot American Summer. Not sure who the A list actor would be, though. Looks like a lot of high B listers. Plus, I think the movie came out a lot earlier than his marriage to Jennifer Esposito.

  41. Nic Cage
    John Travolta

    Face Off

Patricia Arquette ( TV and movies)

They were married at the time the movie was made but separated for years before divorce was final

  42. I think the movie is The Italian Job

Couple who divorced: Jason Statham and Kelly Brook. The movie came out in 2003 and they divorced in 2004. She had a cameo on it so she was on set
Movie also starred Charlize- Oscar winner.

    A List actor Edward Norton.

  45. B list actor who's movies all feel the same seems like a comedian or an action star perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  46. With a memorable name.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I thought of Anna Friel and David Thewlis, they starred in London Boulevard together just before they split, with Colin Farrell, but it doesn't star any Oscar winners and I think she was the cheater in that pair.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd forgotten Kiera Knightly was oscar nominated and she was in London Boulevard, hmm

    ReplyDelete
  49. Like MontanaMarriott's guess but I think Sara really got it, this was a tough one. All clues seem to fit: Dermot a B-lister with a memorable name (recalling how he was always mixed up w/Dylan McDermott), married to Keener also B-list who's done more varied roles. Def a B-list couple. RDJ an A-lister who's "explored both sides" and Zodiac wasn't high-grossing but was critically acclaimed iirc.

Not sure what "happened later" that wasn't a shock though.

  50. Here's the IMDB listing for Wet Hot American Summer, which has a metric assload of actors: --BCoop, Paul Rudd, Janeane Garafalo, Christopher Meloni, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, David Hyde Pierce, several names I recognize as members of a comedy troupe (but I'm not sure which one; I want to say Kids in the Hall), etc. Probably not the movie in the blind, but still interesting, and I'm thinking perhaps I should try to see it some time...

  53. @rejectedcarebear Please please please let it be Jason Statham. I have never seen one of his films, but he is probably my only celebrity crush. That man is smoking hot and I would like to think I stand a chance at least. ;-)

  54. the comedy "troupe" behind WHAS are The State- Michael Ian Black, David Wain, Michael Showalter, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Kerri Kenney. Same gang behind Reno 911, Party Down, Michael & Michael, Stella, etc. Really funny dudes/lady.

There was actually a gay sex scene in that movie btwn MIB and BCoop FWIW.

I very highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes that kind of humor-- twisted, sarcastic, slightly on the juvenile tip (but smarter than say Billy Madison-- though I have love for that movie, these guys are a little more intellectually funny). But based on ENTY's sense of humor I can't believe he would have never heard of this movie, its an indie classic, so I am not sure it fits.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think the wording at the end seems odd and we all know how Enty loves to drop hints in the last line, what about the movie Click? Get it, remote? Christoper Walken is in it, and he seems like a fit for the A lister I always thought maybe walking in on some gay sex was what made Natalie Wood bail off the boat like a bat outta hell...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Joke -- that's a great guess. And gives me the dads, because I adore Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson together, and that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Didn't Catherine Keener turn lesbian?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am seconding what Joke said- this is definitely Keanu Reeves as the A lister, with Kenneth Branaugh (memorable name, same type of movie roles) who was married to Emma Thompson (varied character roles). They were all in "Much Ado About Nothing" -directed by Kenneth Branaugh. That was a different type of part for Keanu Reeves. Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branaugh divorced not long after this movie was made. This was also in another BV.

  60. Well, if it is Val The Goddamn Batman Kilmer, then later he did play Big Gay Perry in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is one of my very favorite movies. It stars my teen crush, RDJ as well. Val plays a cool, badass, gay P.I.

  67. I keep thinking of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger (with the angry little piggy phonecall as the thing that happened after). I just can't find an A-lister who was in a movie with him around 2000 that wasn't succesful, except Hugh Grant as the A lister, but Nothing Hill was a huge hit. So doesn't fit -.-
I would be fitting though, since Huge also got single soon after because he was caught with his pants down on top of a transsexual hooker.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wet Hot American Summer was released in 2001 and filmed, I believe, in 2000. Bradley Cooper married Jennifer Esposito in 2006 and divorced in 2007, so that timeline does not match up.
