Katherine Webb Says She is The Juliet Of Alabama

It has only been two months since anyone outside the state of Alabama even knew who Katherine Webb was. Now? She is everywhere. Apparently all that success has gone to her head and she told vanity fair that she and her boyfriend are the Romeo & Juliet of Alabama. Do you think either one of them have even read it? Someone probably said that and Katherine thought to herself that it would make a great quote if some small town Alabama newspaper cared enough to print two words about their marriage at some point. Instead of that though she got to say it to Vanity Fair and tell them about her big huge new network television debut. Jumping off a diving board.

  1. So, when's the part where he drinks poison and she stabs herself in the chest?

  2. Wait...Romeo and Juliet die in the end? Things make so much more sense now.

    Who in the h*ll is Katherine Webb?

  5. Soooo... their families can't stand each other and forbid them to spend time together?

  6. Im from Alabama, and I kinda see her point if she means they are from violently opposing colleges instead of forbidden families. The college rivalry is insane here....from one rabid Alabama fan poisoning 100 year old oak trees in Auburn just because an Auburn jersey was put on a coach's statue.

    But before Brent Musburger, no one in Alabama knew who she was.

  7. Well, to be fair, she's talking about Auburn-'Bama Iron Bowl, which is huge in Alabama.

    However, she comes across as a bit of a high school princess bitch in the article. Now you can see why an Auburn grad, who is a beauty queen dating a University of Alabama star quarterback, will make national headlines. People call us the Romeo and Juliet of Alabama....

    I’ve never really been the type to dress up like the other girls do....

    After going on and on about how she dresses casual b/c she's there to enjoy the game, she says that's the first time she's ever been on TV. The interviewer says her hair and makeup were great (bazinga!!) and suddenly:

    Exactly. I’m more casual and relaxed. I would dress up, but it’s a football game—I’m there to watch football. I’m there with a few of my really good friends and family. I was never in a sorority, so I never did what a lot of the other girls did. My first time being on national television was at the B.C.S. National Championship Game. I didn’t know they were going to show me on national television, so there I was wearing my No. 10 Alabama jersey and my jeans.

    You had really great hair and makeup that day. Our deputy has a vested interest in knowing how you keep it in control in the sweltering South.

    My hair turns into a lion’s mane in the humidity, so I definitely feel her pain. I just use a lot of hair products, like hair spray and different styling gel, because I knew that if I didn’t, it would not be cute. I usually just use my TRESemmé hair spray. I used John Frieda no-frizz gel before I blow-dried my hair.

    So your hair is usually well tamed, and you just happened to be on national TV while that happened?

    Yeah, well, I figured if I was going to dress casual with jeans and a jersey, I could at least put makeup on and do my hair. Plus, I knew that people already knew who I was as far as me dating A.J. A lot of people asked to take pictures and things like that. I kind of already made it a point to look nice.

  8. I think it's cute, like her world still revolves around college football rivalries.

    Charles Barkley is 30 years out of Auburn, and I bet he still resents that Alabama didn't recruit him hard enough.

  9. As my BF's dad says, "Auburn is just Clemmons* with a lake!"

    *He's from and roots for Georgia. He refuses to call it "Clemson".

  10. Oh, and I'm a Gators fan. It makes college FB season fun for our little family!

    Izze your inserts of the interview make her sound like a dumb southern hick. She reminds me of this Texas trick my cousin married she was all shiny on the outside but nothing between the ears, an absolute airhead.

    Funny story though the airhead went to high school with my sisters now husband and back then they had a *cough* fling.

  12. She is very generic-looking but that's how they like them in Alabama. I graduated from Auburn University and 60% of the girls there were straight off the Stepford assembly line.

  13. Apparently Enty doesn't understand the rivalry is very real. ;-)

    Not that I care about her at all.

    And though I went to Alabama, I would totally vote for Charles Barkley if he ever made good on his threat to run for Govnah.

  14. Izzie: You are so great about bringing stuff to the conversation. Thanks for doing the footwork for some of us lazy folks. That was a great snippet and I thought it made sense as top why she looked so darn good (beyond genetics) at the game.

  15. Don't you just love this country!

    A pretty girl can have a good hair day watching her quarterback boyfriend play football, a random crowd shot captures her image, and she gets a television show and quoted in Vanity Fair.

  16. So, if you have good looks, you date a football player, and get noticed by old men, you’re automatically considered to be a successful woman in America? This country is so profoundly superficial. She's been objectified and she doesn’t even care because that is what our culture considers winning. If I were her, I'd use my education, get a real job, and empower women rather than reduce the gender to a sex symbol. But why would SHE do that? My guess is because she is dumb as a box of rocks and its easier for her to capitalize on her looks. Way to go, Katherine. You should be proud, I’m sure you worked so hard to tame that hair...

  19. Wow...that went to her head quickly. More so than most celebs who actually have talent and have earned it.

    I'm confused as to why she's such a big deal. She's pretty, but she's not stunningly gorgeous or anything. At least not enough to get this much attention. I live in NYC and have seen far hotter than her.

    With that being said...she must not know how to read. First off...there was a BV that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. Second...she must not have read romeo and juliet, because it's a tragedy story about two 13 yr old kids, being kept apart by their family, only to kill themselves in the end.

    She's obviously not that bright.

    Also...agree with @Jme. This country is so shallow...or at least Hollywood anyway. It's amazing how this country celebrates the young and disregards the old and experienced. In other words...people with more depth. That's why when a celeb in the Hollywood hits 40, they become depressed and insane. The attention fades. Europe is the complete opposite. Go over to Asian countries...and they worship and respect their elderly.

  20. @Sherry - aw, you made my day! :)

    @jme - keep reading, she is empowering women. {hold on to that eye roll}

    Now it’s kind of funny because I end up using my height to my advantage and making it into a career. When you’re in front of the camera and you’re walking the runway as a model, it almost forces you to portray confidence and eventually makes you believe that you really are confident. Modeling and pageants help me overcome feeling insecure about the way that I look and my height. For me to go from feeling like I was the ugly duckling to winning Miss Alabama U.S.A., and going on to Miss U.S.A. and taking pictures for Sports Illustrated and being labeled as one of the most beautiful women . . . I love sharing that with girls who are in my position at that age and kind of coaching them.
    ~~~~~~
    I'm not pretty-shaming here, but people who talk about how beautiful they are are usually either insecure or vacuous. Based on some of her comments in the article, I'm going with the latter.
    Ah, well, here's hoping she does something with her 15 minutes of coaching.
  21. Media, stop trying to make Katherine Webb happen. She's not going to happen!
  22. Pretty and smrt to boot (purposeful spelling).
    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, and not to give her any credit, but I'm not surprised it went to her head. I mean, she got on a TV show solely because she is pretty and humping on some QB. It's not as though she was rewarded for winning the Nobel Prize. As long as people encourage her to think this way, she will.
    Well, she's got the hustle down, doesn't it speak to her self esteem, her team, her hustle that she's gotten here so quickly. She's got beauty and charisma. So what if she said she was the juliet of alabama. That quote is asinine in itself, let her have her romantic fantasy quote. who cares? Let her make something of herself, she reminds me of Kathy Ireland a bit. She appears to be sharp-ish, pretty, not drunk or on drugs, charismatic enough. Maybe she should design a clothing, towel, sheet, martha stewart living line for target, jcp or sears. She needs a talent first of all to center those things around. I could see women liking her, if Jessica " Chick of the Sea" Simpson and her Dad could build her an empire, surely Katherine Webb could. What does she do? What is she interested in? What does she have that's original to say? What's she about? she's like perfectly moldable clay at this point, she could go in any direction. The Olsen twins are mega billionaires, and why? Jessica Simpson, and why? The Kardashian family, and why? The Hills people, and why? Pamela Anderson, and why? Do I need to continue? All based on looks, image and people behind them, usually a parent, pushing them and wanting their cut. Don't count this Webb girl out yet. A swimsuit line? Could tie in nicely to this show. She could pretend that she's designed a swim line to hide her (imaginary)problem areas, buy one and you too could look just like her in a swimsuit!
  25. Yeah, I'm not mad at her. She seems pretty innocuous. Until she starts acting like Lindsey or Paris I am not going to pile on her. If she can turn her 15 minutes into more... good for her.
  26. Oh, and @Terri even Alabama fans hate what Harvey Updyke did to that tree in Auburn. He is a special type of stupid to brag about it after on the radio.
  27. AJ cheated? I missed that BV, too. Shocking that a QB would do such a thing. ;-)
  28. JME - I agree that we're all way too superficial, but I probably wouldn't go that far. Part of Women's Lib is to do whatever you like, regardless if it's winning a Nobel Prize for science, or staying home with the kids. Or acting/modeling, the latter of which she was already doing in Los Angeles.
    We wouldn't probably say the same things about AJ, should he go to the NFL after college instead of getting a job in whatever field he's studying. Well, we might, but not to the same extent.
    Right now, Webb is living the dream, nothing wrong with that!
  29. She's really rude and bitchy at the pool they are training at for Splash. She also wears a full face of make up. It's really kind of gross.
  30. @Zeek – I get what you’re saying, but that’s not really what I’m talking about. I’m all for her doing what she wants, and I don’t blame her for taking advantage of the situation; but there is no denying that she is where she is because of how she looks, and that is just society. There is also no denying that she is inherently insecure, probably because society puts so much emphasis on beauty. It feels exactly the opposite of liberation, and she is doing nothing to reverse that issue in my mind.
    This is just my opinion, but as long as women are considered a 'thing' (I’m looking at you, Brent Musburger), women are going to think beauty equals success. I seriously doubt any woman would have swooned and said 'oh now THIS chick exemplifies our gender, let’s get her out there’. Quite the opposite, and not because we’re catty, but because she's done nothing, and I would like to think women feel as though our worth is measured far beyond what you can see. Apparently, Miss Alabama does not feel that way because she needs vindication from her days as an 'ugly duckling'. As if walking in a straight line or dating a football player is an accomplishment. The sad fact is this girl would not feel confident if she looked like Sandra Bernhard, because 1) she would not be Miss Alabama and 2) AJ would never have acknowledged her existence. I don’t blame her, she can't help that society is full of judgmental drones. Besides, I know she could care less at this point. I mean, she is beautiful; dating a quarterback, and has a lucrative career jumping into water. She is living “the dream”, why would she care?
    Can I roll my eyes now?
  31. Hope she's saving every penny she's making now...
  32. Well, she's pretty and I guess she can't be faulted for trying to take advantage of her 15 minutes but I'm finding it hard to give a damn, possibly because I don't follow football. And I'm not even embarrassed to admit that I got the two boring brunettes mixed up for a moment (Katherine McPhee/Smash, Katherine Webb/Splash). Doh!
  35. And who really cares if she's pretty and got where she's at because of her looks? That's how it is, it sucks to be a less attractive woman but looks are what matter in society and all the bitching and crying won't change that. You can think that being "educated" is somehow superior but everyone wants different things out of life and if this is what she wants, then go for it. For a bunch of people who refuse to judge anyone, you sure can hate on someone pretty. And yeah she's a million times prettier than I am but I don't need to hate on her for it, what's the point? I don't want her life or anything she's got, including her looks so why bother?
  36. @Terri, my husband made me watch a show about the rivalry and they featured the tree poisoner. It's so nuts how crazy college football fans can get.
