Yesterday, Lil Wayne was rushed back to the emergency room after suffering multiple seizures. This comes shortly after he had been released from the hospital on Wednesday after suffering seizures. Apparently between Wednesday and yesterday, Lil' Wayne went on a sizzurp drinking binge which caused the seizures. At one point yesterday, Lil' was reported to be in critical condition and near death and rappers from the hip hop community have gathered by his hospital room. There have been numerous conflicting reports about whether he was close to death or in stable condition. His people seem to think he is fine. TMZ would like him as near death as possible without actually dying. It is kind of the same way they feel about Kris Humphries. All of this goes to show you that even if you know you might or probably will die, it can be tough to give up your addictions.
Yes and TMZ is the strongest addiction of all. :-)

He was in Cedars 3 -4 days before this, with muli-seizures. Besides, if he was so ok, & up and tweeting, where's those pics and videos they were saying he'd be posting them "soon" to show TMZ?

ReplyDeletePuggleWug: Here in Canada you don't even need a doc's prescription to get cough syrup with codeine. You can just buy it right at the pharmacy. You just have to get it behind the counter by asking the pharmacist; it's not right on the shelf with the other cough meds. It's that easy.

ReplyDeleteI can't imagine voluntarily drinking large quantities of cough syrup. Then again, it might have something to do with the fact my mother used to buy terpin hydrate with codeine at CVS back in the late '80s, when I was in high school. (Yes, it was sold OTC and you didn't need to ask the pharmacist or show your license to get it.) That stuff was nasty!

DeleteI wasn't even aware that this was the new "BUZZ" fad. Aging myself here, but over 30 years ago an 8 oz. bottle of Cherry flavored Robitussin would keep me blazin for a full 8 hours (they've since changed the ingredients). Yeah, I was that kind of teenager much to my parents dismay. I still to this day can't stomach any cough medicine that is cherry flavor.
ReplyDeleteI am embarrassed that I know this, but after that "Like a G-6" song, I totally googled Sizzurp. Sizzurp, or Purple Drank, is the combination of the codeine cough syrup with sprite and pieces of Jolly Rancher, which cuts the bitter taste of the cough syrup by itself. Not that this fact makes it any better, but I think this is why so many people can stomach it and drink it for extended periods of time.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have read, Wayne actually had a Promethazine OD, which is the other part of the syrup, an anti-nausea drug that is also found in certain prescription cough medicines and used as an anti-histamine.
Either way, if he was mixing a bunch of meds, this was bound to happen sadly. Maybe this is his wakeup call. Doesn't he have like 14 kids?
So his people are basically trying to prop him up until they can get a hologram so they can continue their lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteIf you're actually sick and not looking for a high, there is nothing even close to Delsym for getting rid of a cough. I couldn't have made it through bronchitis without it. And it's a liqui-gel, so no bad taste.

I have a prescription for codeine cough medicine (it has decongestant in it as well) - it's called Dimetane Expectorant DC. Cherry or grape flavored. Tastes great and works like a charm - but if you take too much, it knocks you out.

ReplyDeleteJeeze I know someone who made an important genetics discovery that could possibly lead to a better understanding in cancer treatment. He said he's never gonna have kids. This guy and Octomom pop 'em out when they can't even care for one. I know what the future is going to look like.
I work in social media & marketing and have worked as a social mgr for a couple of musicians & an NFL celeb. At any given time, I can use twitter as one of the TV shows or personalities we manage. I'm not buying that the tweet was him...it was prob Mack Maine or his manager, Cortez whatever. While there are some celebs who do tweet for themselves, there are many others who pay someone to do it in their "voice", either part or full time.

ReplyDelete@Pogue, it's not just the codeine that makes Sizzurp so dangerous. they use a cough syrup that has codeine and Promethazine which is an old school, prescription only antihistamine that will make you loopy as hell (I used to take it occasionally as a kid for my allergies). To give you an idea of how out of it it can make you, if you've ever been prescribed Phenergan for nausea/vomiting (usually suppositories)...that is Promethazine. Mix it with codeine, take it in large quantities...yeah, it's bad stuff.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan or anything, but I hope he gets better. What a horrible thing to go through (multiple seizures). Is it bad that after the "good" reasons I don't want him to die (i.e.; because he's a human being, and because of all his kids), there are other reasons? If he dies, we're going to hear about all his baby mama drama and dog forbid, you know a few of them are going to get a reality show, "House of Tunechi", "Wayne Dynasty", or something like that.

ReplyDeleteWhen I get sick I ask my quack for "that cough syrup in the brown bottle" and he prescribes promethazine with codeine. I can't imagine getting high from the stuff because just a spoonful makes me sleeeeeep, which is exactly what I want, a spoonful so I can sleep without coughing my brains out all night.

To get the real "high" with sizzurp/lean/purple drank/purp, etc whatever you want to call it, you have to drink a lot, & the effective is heightened by smoking a couple of blunts, w it. The problem is, the combo causes severe central nervous system depression, seizures, & death. Also, most people aren't aware, but there's a diff between a cough med w/ codeine in it, versus hydrocodone, as hydro is chemically the same opiod as lorcet, lortab, vicodin, vicoprophen, etc, as it is a compound drug, of codeine and thebaine. It is actually a much, much better cough medication than cough syrups that use codeine. The strongest cough syrup avail in the US is Codiclear DH, which actually contains small amounts of ethanol! Yikes, right?? Best-Tussinex Pennkinetic. Hope this helps!
