Jeanne Cooper Hospitalized

If you have ever watched Young And The Restless, then you know who Jeanne Cooper is. If you have not, she is also the mother of actor Corbin Bernsen. Jeanne plays Katherine Chancellor on the show and when I think of the role that she has played forever, I can't think of anyone who has done it better. Corbin, who is so crazy about his mom, has been Tweeting about her since she was hospitalized. She is listed in critical condition.

"[M]om is steady, bumps in the road but heading in the right direction though still without guarantees and the absolutes I long for. Such is life, literally! God Bless all of you for your continued thoughts and prayers. They are the fuel right now and we're tapping into every ounce of it."

  4. As someone who had to tolerate my mothers love of The young and the Restless for most of my life, she was one of the only people i could stand on the show. Probably because she actually has real acting chops. Hope she gets well soon.

  5. Love this feisty woman to bits. Hope she's ok and recovers nicely.

OT: was there a blind item we all suspected was about Matt Damon and renewing his wedding vows?

  7. Hoping she gets well soon. Corbin is one of those actors who is in EVERYTHING, but most people (myself included) wouldn't know him by name.

  8. She has looked so frail on that show for the past year and had to leave for a time. On the show they had been doing a story with her which seemed to indicate she was developing Alzheimer's Disease. Ive watched that show since I was in college on and off mostly on and remember when she playedca drunken old hitch instead of the lovely old lady she plays now.

  11. I have been watching Y&R since the 70's.... wow, can't believe that's almost 40 years. My mom & aunts got me started when I was a kid. I only have time to watch it hit & miss these days but I adore Jeanne Cooper. She is one of the few old Hollywood classy icons left. Wishing her a speedy recovery, much health, and a long life.

  13. Sad news. Last time I watched was a few months ago when I was home sick and she was still on the show. I was a bit surprised, but happy.

  16. I follow Corbin on twitter and he said she is breathing on her own now. She is a trooper I can't imagine at 84 she can keep up with the schedule of a daytime soap. I watch YR on and off and she was just on and she looked very very frail and they film 6-8 weeks in advance.

Hope she bounces back, Corbin is a very sweet and dear son to his mom. He has been on YR a few times working with his mom.

  20. This is old news. I know she's "only" a soap actor and all, but this was first reported it on April 13. She's a hell of an actress and by all accounts, a hell of a woman. I don't watch Y&R anymore, but she'll always be one of my favourites.

  22. I grew up on y&r. My mom, who worked nights, wouldn't go to sleep until after she watched it (ahh sick & snow days). Loved it in college til they brought Shemar Moore in to make it hip. Katherine Chancellor's dust ups with Jill were legendary. Get well soon, Victor needs someone else to ramble on to.

  23. I've been watching Y&R since AMC was canceled. She has looked very frail but still feisty. Get well soon.

  24. Katherine chancellor was a huge part of my childhood and I still watch y&r today! I hope she gets better soon

  25. I loved her back in the day when she was a drunken bitch fighting with Jill over husbands. Still love her on there today. I hope she makes a full recovery

  26. I used to watch Y&R faithfully as a teenager but when I grew up and had grown up responsibilities had no time to keep up with it. I happened to catch the Good Friday episode while visiting family that day and noticed she looked unwell and frail. I was shocked she was still working. She was still compelling to watch.
It must be very difficult time for all those in her life right now.

  27. I've been a MAJOR Y&R fan since I can remember. My husband and I watch I every day - I'm praying that she recovers. I love her character "Katherine Chancellor" she is a legend.

  28. I remember watching Y&R as a kid with my mom in the 70's with my mom. Her fights with Jill were legendary. When she had her plastic surgery they used it on the show. It was the first time something like that was used as a plot line on a soap.
I am happy to read that she is off the ventilator. May she get well and have more time with her family and loved ones.

  29. Carolyn Hinsey did a piece about older actors in a recent Soap Opera Digest when John Ingle (Edward Quartermaine) passed. She stated that some knew when to leave and others should learn when to retire gracefully. This may sound harsh, but her comments weren't mean to be, but my delivery just seems rough - so my apologies. I would quote the article but it has been a few months and has been thrown out by now.

My thoughts were - could she be talking about Jeanne Cooper, or the guy who plays her husband, who is COS and has been on less frequently in the past year or so...

I truly hope she gets better and can at least do cameos for quite a while to come. For some retirement is death and I completely understand her wanting to work vs sit at home.

One other note. Her son Collin got a divorce quite a few years ago and she was well into her 60's and helped raise his children. Classy lady indeed!

  30. My mother used to watch when I was a little girl. Mrs Chancellor and Jill's fights were awesome. As was Victor's evil plots. I've watched recently, and those two are still just as great. I wish her the best.

  31. Just wanted to toss out my thoughts on Jeanee. I've run into her a few times over the years, the first was when my career was just starting. I mean REALLY just starting, I hadn't done any professional acting work and was just going to audition after audition. I was invited by a friend to a charity dinner where I met Jeanee. I didn't watch the show, but my grandmother and aunt did, so I knew who she was.

I nervously asked her about being an actor and if she had any advice. I thought she might spend 30 seconds with me, but she ended up talking to me for 15 minutes! It's was such an amazing experience and when I got home I called my grandmother and aunt to tell them who I had just met... they couldn't believe it!

Oh, and I'll say this about her son Corbin.. he is such a devoted son. He loves her dearly and would do anything for her. From what I've heard she seems to be doing better, so I'm very thankful for that.

  32. I really hope she's okay. She had to take a break not that long ago for health reasons. I've literally watched Y&R all my life.
