Weird Science Is Getting A Remake
I have mixed feelings about the announcement that the same person who wrote the 21 Jump Street movie is now writing a remake of Weird Science. Remaking a John Hughes movie? From that time period? You want to remake Curly Sue go right ahead, but Weird Science? I have very warm spot in my heart from any movie in that time period. Sure, Weird Science is a little strange, but it has everyone in it (Robert Downey Jr., Bill Paxton, and Michael Berryman) and a great performance by Anthony Michael Hall with some help from Kelly LeBrock. This is a woman who voluntarily married Steven Seagal. I know, I know. Hughes' version was PG-13. The remake would be R, but part of the fun of the PG-13 version is that it felt like an R without having to go that far.
Why??? You can't improve on perfection!
ReplyDeleteMy feelings about this remake
ReplyDeleteThe worst transgression of all was a Rocky Horror Show remake, which I thankfully haven't heard about since MTV announced it or I might have gone stabby.
ReplyDeleteDisgusted! I hope it tanks. Honestly Hollywood, quit remaking and sequel-ing everything to death.
ReplyDeleteNo. No. No. No. No.
ReplyDeletehorrible idea, John Hughes is spinning in his grave over this.
ReplyDeleteYou're stewed, buttwad!
ReplyDeleteGod how I love that movie! I know the whole thing by heart! Xo Weird Science!!
Love, Love, Love Weird Science!
ReplyDeleteBad idea! Leave these classic 80's movies alone!!!
ReplyDeleteDeplorable! I hope this falls through.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that movie like 100 times, literally. Back in the '80's, in HBO's infancy, my stepfather worked for the cable company and all the sudden we had MOVIES AT HOME!
ReplyDeleteThis is one from that magical time, that HBO showed over & over.
Fun Fact--My cousin in Florida had 'Mike Hall' (AMH) heavily pursuing her during this time (she was a model), when he was so famous. She thought he was a DORK & too cocky; she didn't care about his fame. She always had good values & taste, even though she DOES look very 'trophy-ish' her whole life.
I hate whoever is behind this.
ReplyDeleteFuck you, Hollywood. Fuck. You. Right in the ass.
ReplyDeleteDitto what disco said

DeleteThis is wrong on so many levels
They'll probably ask RDJ if he wants to do a cameo. Hopefully he'll tell them to go jump.
ReplyDelete@discoflux said it best: Fuck you, Hollywood!!! ;(
ReplyDeleteWhat you all just said!
ReplyDeleteThis article has me so upset I just floated a massive air biscuit. Also, went to see this flick at the theater with my sister. We got into a fight in the lobby and I ended up sitting by myself. I was mortified but the movie was so funny, I totally forgot how embarrassed I was.
ReplyDeletePS Super long time reader, first time poster...hi everybody!
@disco - with a Persian missile!!
ReplyDeleteI hate remakes. The only one I've ever seen (and I've seen several) that was worth a spit was the JJ Abrams remake/reboot of "Star Trek." To me, all the others have proved is that Hollywood filmmakers cannot or will not employ screenwriters who are actually capable of original thought. The best they can come up with is to try to ride the coattails of what someone else has already done.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite John Hughes movie. It cannot be improved upon, so why even try?
ReplyDeleteI own the 12 inch Vinyl extended remix of Oingo Boingo's Weird Science theme song.
ReplyDeleteI transferred it to digital, so now it's on my ipod and kindle.
In the playlist "Party Mix".
I know you are all jealous. ;-P
If they cast an actual talented actress in the Kelly LeBrock role it probably could work. However, I think they'll cast fucking Kate Upton or somebody like that.
ReplyDeleteGary? Who's Gary?
ReplyDeleteI'm OK with it. If it was Sixteen Candles or Ferris Bueller I might have called blasphemy. But Weird Science is the silliest of the John Hughes canon. And 21 Jump Street was an incredibly funny script.
ReplyDeleteNo. :(
ReplyDeleteHi kelli_girl, welcome to commenting.
ReplyDeleteSacrilege. What's next, Meatballs?
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to ever watch the remake.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDelete:::Chet:::
Dont hate me because I'm beautiful. I wash my hair just like you.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they just don't re-release the damn movie. It still holds up, I watched it with a couple of 12 year olds I know a month ago, and they LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteThis movie was just the best. Leave it alone, Hollywood funsuckers!
ReplyDeleteI hope touch The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles. Those are the movies of my teenage years.
