Florida Woman Gives Birth On Hospital Doorstep

She had just six steps left to go to make it inside the hospital, but 36 year old Amy Beth Cavaretta was unable to make it inside before giving birth to her second child. She knew labor would go fast, because her first had taken just six hours, but she did think she would actually make it into the hospital. Along with her husband, Amy also had a photographer along who took some really cool photos, otherwise it would have just been another Florida story. Everyone is at home and doing great.

  1. My stepdaughter had her 2 babies at this hospital. It's a good place to have a child!

As for Florida - sorry, I've seen this story ALL over the country all the time. Enty, for once this isn't a Florida exclusive problem.

  2. My mom had my brother in an elevator - in WA - Florida doesn't count here - awesome pics though!

  3. This is one of those labor and delivery stories that's worth repeating. The pictures make the story, too.

  4. My co-worker's grandson was born in the backseat, on the shoulder of the freeway, delivered by his 19-year-old son-in-law while on speakerphone with 911. Apparently they waited a little too long to leave for the hospital. No pics, though.

  5. My husband's cousin is like that - she has four children, and every single one was born within an hour or so of her water breaking, no epidurals, the only thing she took afterward was Tylenol. (And not even Tylenol 3!) Some people are just good at birthing those babies! :)

    I agree, cool photos!

  7. My mom was born in a taxi in front of the hospital in Chicago - it actually says that on her birth certificate!

  8. I gave birth in the hospital but I did give a graduate school class presentation while in early labor. When I got to class I asked the professor if my group could go first because I was in labor. He turned white as a ghost. A few days later I showed up for the final. Good times...

    1. @PugsterMom,

Great story! He probably thought you were going to have the baby right there and he'd have to cut the cord!

    2. Probably! But I was determined to make the presentation because there were 3 of us in the group. I didn't tell my husband, though. I knew he'd freak. I just quietly packed a change of clothes in case my water broke and went to class. :)

  11. You know that "Liz and Dick" scene where Lindsay starts yelling "I'm so BORED!" I imagine this baby doing the same thing, demanding to be let out NOW!

  13. When baby wants out, baby wants out! There is no making the last six steps. :-) Some women just have babies fast.

  14. Why did she have a photographer with her? That's the weirdest part of this story to me.

  15. For people who are grossed out by childbirth - how old are you, 10? Seriously.

    Cool story, beautiful pics!

  16. When I was a wedding photographer I had a few people ask me to follow their births - I declined. These photos are cool, but I don't want to be lens deep in a girl's hoo-ha.

J Sara - I love the story of your mom's birth certificate. That is hilarious!

PugsterMom - That's true dedication! Now I have no excuses to not finish studying for this mid-term I am working on...

  17. Damn I wish I'd had some of that special slide sauce she has when I gave birth!

  18. Good thing they had the photographer with them so the world could watch her squat in public. and to garner some publicity.

  21. This would only qualify as a Florida story if she then turned around and ate the baby.

  22. auntliddy--2 and a half hours for a first baby IS insane! I'm surprised your hospital staff didn't scoff and chase you out of there immediately.

  23. This was a terrifying read as I'm sitting here pregnant with my first baby. Ima be out the door the second those contractions start lol. It was nice to hear often short labour she had with the first one though.

    1. No you won't because the hospital will probably tell you to not bother coming in until contractions are a certain distance apart. But good luck with baby! When are you due?

  25. I had my twins in three in half hours. My doctor left me in the room telling me it would probably take all night and to be ready if I needed a c-section.

I knew they were coming though and when my husband son the first twin's head, he went screaming for the doctor.

Some people just have fast births.

  26. Figgy's Phone Is Screaming At Us!!

Anyway, i was such a pu$$y (pun intended) with my one and only child i demanded (not asked for) an epidural & had it within 20min of my water breaking. i was in labor for 19 hours & I told the anesthesiologist several times that I loved him, and told my (ex)husband he was never touching me again. We watched a Law & Order marathon all day then I got to push out my little angel in front of a room full of at least 10 people (teaching hospital). Most of them were from other countries & I'm guessing they learned many new swear words that day.

  27. Mom barely made it to the hospital to have me back in 1949. I was #3 and guess that showed my future impatience.

  28. All I can think is if the hospital will charge her or her insurance for using their steps for the delivery part.
