Margaret Cho spent a year working with John Travolta almost everyday. She knows he is gay. He knows she knows he is gay and in this three minute clip she explains just how gay John Travolta is and how she knows he wants to come out, but can't.
If its a story that she knows 1st hand and not a lie.... She can reveal all she wants. Its' HER story. No different than Connors revealing that Chris Everett had an abortion BUT wanted him to pay for it.
There is often truth in comedy and comedy is the only way to tell it. Dick Gregory, George Carlin, Andrew Dice Clay, Lenny Bruce. I think COS is about to get called out major!
I think gay celebs should be treated no different than str8 celebs. If we joke about Tiger about his infidelity, we can joke about Travolta about his infidelity.
What's the difference between Hugh Grant being caught with a hooker and George Michael soliciting an undercover cop in an public bathroom??????
Love Travolta too but the man was propositioning and at times being to aggressive with massage therapists . If he was str8 and hitting on females trying to do their job, folks would be calling for his head.
@just curious he is a sexual predator. he gets off on non-consenual harrasment of licensed practitioners to the point that high end spas have had to ban him. I get that being closeted probably contributes to his dysfunctional behavior but just like any other serial harrasser he has to be stopped or else he will continue to push the boundaries. I can't find anything likable about him anymore.
I realize Travolta's in a glass closet, but there are kids involved in this. If he wants to be in a sexless marriage with his best friend and two kids, meh. Let him have it.

There's a difference between outing someone as gay and outing someone as a predator. Cho's rant was about him being gay, not about him being a predator, so I don't think it was appropriate. And even if she were to go on about him being a predator, she (being female) would obviously have no firsthand knowledge and therefore shouldn't be talking about that either.
Make no mistake though, I am ALL FOR the actual accusers coming forward publicly.

Face/Off was filmed in 1996. That's a long time for John to be hiding that secret of his. Well, it's not so much of a secret these days. I don't know what happened to him - he seemed like he was actually a content, chill guy back in the 90's when he got his career back. A fun guy, actually. Now he's become just nasty and creepy.
I really like Margaret Cho but that's all she has about John? That's really nothing too shady and not too scandalous either. I was hoping she'd have a real good story to share.
I can't believe Margaret Cho would dress like that onstage. She should dress with more dignity but I'm sure she wants everyone to know she has tattoos on her legs. She'd like to make it look like she could care less how she looks, but nothing can be farther from the truth.

What if John Travolta wants to come out but the wacko Scientologists won't allow it and threaten him with ruin (like they have so many others) if he does. Maybe he and Margaret are friends and she is doing this with his knowledge and blessing? She is such an advocate of LGBT rights it goes against her character to out someone. Hey Maja! I know you didn't write the piece but you linked to it about outing celebrities. I want to politely disagree with your thoughts on this.
I think it is OK to out a spouse/child abuser, tax evader, bad tipper, general asshole, and a drunk driver. I think a person having an affair when they are married are fair game. (There is more but you get the idea.) These people are hurting other people.
However, I still think we live in a generally closed-minded world and outing someone's private sex life is very self-serving and mean. Think about what her intent is to out someone - it is hard to defend someone for hurting an individual for the 'greater good.' People still have families and careers to protect. Yes, it is getting better but acceptance isn't perfect yet and it is not her place to out anyone but herself.
I know that a lot of people think it is funny because it is Travolta and it appears that he is an abuser. She did not bring that up. I'm only defending what she said in the video about him.
I quit reading Perez Hilton years ago for doing the same thing.

This was Time magazine, so Margaret Cho's jokes are hardly news.

@Nutty_Flavor - I don't think being gay is anything to be ashamed of, either. I have a gay brother, sister and nephew. I am glad that they weren't outed and rather were able to let their families know on their own terms. In the 80s, when my family found out about my siblings, it was a bigger deal that it might be today, However, it was difficult for my nephew still with his father who just came out recently.
I don't think it was her place to out him, but many of the jokes were more generic and probably already told by some comedian somewhere. Weren't that funny. Then again I don't find that humor funny in general.
It did, however, remind me of how Travolta & Nic Cage acted at a ShoWest event to promote that movie. Out of everyone that week, including the chilly Elizabeth Hurley (for Austin Powers), they were the two most rude celebs by far. Made it clear it was a huge inconvenience for them to be there, and spent entire lunch in their own corner only talking to each other; even ignored other celebs at the lunch and on the panel.
I say "most rude" celebs, but everyone else was actually really good with those of us preparing to help promote their films. "Most down to earth, awesome to hang with" was a three way tie - George Clooney, Andy Garcia & Meg Ryan. Hung out with them for over 30 minutes after the event ended. And Andy Garcia...his hotness level was off the chart. No film does him justice.

Just like McDonalds and Hot Pockets selling themselves as healthy food, Travolta's 'brand' is a lie. I don't have a problem with someone 'outing' McDonalds or Pepsi for corporate misdeeds, and I don't have a problem with someone outing Travolta, either.

Besides being well known that pretty comediennes are not considered as funny or taken as seriously even if it is not true and unfair. It is what it is so most female comedians try to play their looks down and frankly most male stand ups are not getting any fashion or beauty awards either. This is comedy not a fashion show or a music concert.
I go to see a comedian for the words, man, make me laugh I could care less what any comedian is wearing though some have costumes and that's cool too. Case in point. George Carlin. He dressed for comfort. Who remembers what he was wearing and who cared.
I love Cho. That being said, I was expected something better. I feel like the gist of this was "I found him to be very flaming in person" and "I think the harassment cases are true" amid mostly cheap jokes that didn't wind up to a point. I've seen her craft funnier, more nuanced things. I just expected better. Also, there was lots of "I feel sorry for him" without the real why (Scientology is holding him hostage!!!!).
My pet theory (between gossip sites and Tony Ortega's awesome work) is that he doesn't want to come out and prefers his arrangement as it is, public and private life separate, but that he does want to stop following Scientology's crazy-ass theories (where autism and epilepsy don't exist and everything is treated with saunas and niacin) after the death of his son. But they stepped in and started to leak some of the shit they kept quiet for him (hence all the harrassed men coming at once) and he went back to toeing their line.
I used to feel sorry for him, but considering how aggressively creepy he is about going after men that do not reciprocate, it's waning.
