LOVE Mel Brooks too! And the amazing Cloris Leachman! Can someone tell me what vampire tonic is Martin Short drinking? He hasn't aged! Love Amy Poehler, we watched the Best of Amy Poehler a couple days ago, she was so incredible, so talented and funny. I wish some of the old castmates, like her and Tina, Jimmy would go back on SNL. "Rick! Rick Rick Rick Rick Rick rick Riiiick!" Love her.

  10. Amy is wearing the same dress I wore for bid day in 1989. I do like her though.
Mel is awesome! I can't wait for the kids to be old enough to watch Blazing Saddles!

  11. Layna, you are missing out. HILARIOUS stuff....and SMART humor.

  12. History of the World Part 1 killed me when I was a kid, as did Silent Movie. Brooks is a LEGEND, as is Carl Reiner.

  13. Mel did an interview on NPR a few weeks ago, I was bawling in my car when he was talking about how he and Carl have dinner together and watch movies every night since their wives passed away. Mel said no one understood him better than his wife except for Carl. The interviewer asked what movie they had recently watched that made them laugh and he said "Wreck it Ralph" because they love Sarah Silverman so much. *sniffle* So darn heartwarming.

I've heard good things about his work, but it doesn't seem to be my cuppa. *shrugs* Just the same, by all accounts he's a talented and nice man, so he's highly deserving of any honor he receives.

  17. Mel is Genius! As is Carl.

  18. Plenty of Mel love here, so I'm going to toss out some for Dick Van Patten! He's still adorable.

  20. Young Frankenstein. . .one of the funniest movies ever! Madeline Kahn was the best, she was underrated, I think.

    1. Count, sadly Teri Garr has MS or something equally sad. Remember her loveliness for your fantasies. I think she would appreciate it.

  24. Mel Brooks is freakin fabulous...odd pose for his granddaughter, though.

David Lynch is a genius. For all you youngins out there, you need to watch Twin Peaks on Netflix.

Sarah Silverman looks really cute there.

  25. The Peter Boyle /Gene Hackman scene in Young Frankenstein slays me.

Some great moments in Blazing Saddles, too.

Is Spaceballs a Brooks movie, too? I think it is but will leave it up to the comments experts to verify.

  26. @Naughty, I was SO excited to see Twin Peaks on Netflix. I was just a BIT too young to appreciate it during its original run. Cannot wait to revisit as a "grown-up".

    1. Tried it out. Reeeeeeeeellllyyy slow & the music got on my nerves. Amazing first episode but the gf beating theme is hard to watch. These times are different from them times.

Makes me sad to see Lara Flynn Boyle & the other datk haired chick, plus Madchen Amick-so unbelievably fresh faced and GORGEOUS. Time and plastic surgery destroyed LFB. What an amazing career. She was so very talented and Hollyweird GOT HER.

I cannot recall the other girl who played the daughter of the Hotel owner. She came & went more quickly. Sherilynn Fenn? My memory just isn't what it used to be. Too lazy to check her IMDB. I thought she had some talent too but LFB did the best of all of them.

Seeing her wander around looking like a burn victim combined with an aging Garbo vibe just breaks my heart.

Mel made me laugh but I was morr into David Lynch. Film school student. Whut can I say. I liked the darker tales. NOW I appreciate stupid comedy. And face it, Mel's stuff is stupid vaudeville based schtik. He is still a genius but not to my taste.

  29. I have a hilarious Carl Reiner story for you that is legendary in my family. Apparently as a tiny tot of 5 we were at the airport and for some reason Mr. Reiner thought I was cute and spoke to me. I proudly told him I was wearing new underwear and asked him (in all innocence) if he would like to see them. Fortunately for all he declined. :)

  30. I'm feeling old seeing how old they got. We are a family of Mel fans. Love him, and Carl.

  31. Too bad Anne Bancroft is no longer here.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, PugsterMom...that story is so cute. The innocence of kids...I love it.

ktmonster: carve out plenty of time for Twin Peaks. You won't want to stop once you start! Seeing things "wrapped in plastic" will never be the same for you.

  33. @Tigercat Yes! Spaceballs was co written and directed by Mel. Love that movie!

  34. Young Frankenstein (that's Frahnk en Steen!!), Blazing Saddles and Men in Tights(tight tights) are my favorites, but if it's Mel Brooks, I'll watch it. Every time I see Cloris Leachman on Raising Hope I think of Frau Bueller. *neighs!* I do miss Madeline Kahn as well.

  39. Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie I have ever seen. And I do mean EVER. The beans scene ... I can't help it. It still makes me laugh. That's my humor. Don't judge me. ;)
