Amy Poehler was there.
Martin Scorcese
Martin Short
Sarah Silverman
Dick Van Patten
David Lynch and Emily Stofle

Love Mel Brooks :)
ReplyDeleteClassic Hollywood was out in full force. That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteMel.....<3
ReplyDeleteI love Mel and David Lynch's hair.
ReplyDeleteMel Brooks is a GOD. I fucking love that man- I have forever!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love everyone in this post--they're all brilliant (except Sarah Silverman)
ReplyDeleteI have lusted after Mel Brooks for over 40 years. I love him madly. If men only realized how much women love men who can make them laugh......
ReplyDeleteAnd he's a nice guy also.
LOVE Mel Brooks too! And the amazing Cloris Leachman! Can someone tell me what vampire tonic is Martin Short drinking? He hasn't aged! Love Amy Poehler, we watched the Best of Amy Poehler a couple days ago, she was so incredible, so talented and funny. I wish some of the old castmates, like her and Tina, Jimmy would go back on SNL. "Rick! Rick Rick Rick Rick Rick rick Riiiick!" Love her.
ReplyDeleteI lol whenever I think of Caitlin & Rick. So funny.
DeleteI don't think I've ever seen a Mel Brooks movie.
ReplyDeleteGet thee to Netflix RIGHT NOW! Start with Young Frankenstein.
DeleteThen watch it again.
Amy is wearing the same dress I wore for bid day in 1989. I do like her though.
ReplyDeleteMel is awesome! I can't wait for the kids to be old enough to watch Blazing Saddles!
Layna, you are missing out. HILARIOUS stuff....and SMART humor.
ReplyDeleteHistory of the World Part 1 killed me when I was a kid, as did Silent Movie. Brooks is a LEGEND, as is Carl Reiner.
ReplyDeleteMel did an interview on NPR a few weeks ago, I was bawling in my car when he was talking about how he and Carl have dinner together and watch movies every night since their wives passed away. Mel said no one understood him better than his wife except for Carl. The interviewer asked what movie they had recently watched that made them laugh and he said "Wreck it Ralph" because they love Sarah Silverman so much. *sniffle* So darn heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteI saw blazing saddles when it first came out. Had to sit through it 2X to hear all the jokes..people were laughing so much. I love this guy. Funniest man on planet earth
ReplyDeleteLove Mel Brooks! History of the World Part I is still hysterical to me,even after all these years. I still keep hoping that there will be a Part II. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about his work, but it doesn't seem to be my cuppa. *shrugs* Just the same, by all accounts he's a talented and nice man, so he's highly deserving of any honor he receives.
ReplyDeleteMel is Genius! As is Carl.
ReplyDeletePlenty of Mel love here, so I'm going to toss out some for Dick Van Patten! He's still adorable.
ReplyDeleteMel Brooks and his granddaughter look very alike. Nice to see him.
ReplyDeleteYoung Frankenstein. . .one of the funniest movies ever! Madeline Kahn was the best, she was underrated, I think.
ReplyDeleteMomster I must agree. Madeline Kahn wad a huge talent. God rest her soul. And Carl and Mel are the kings of comedy. I too heard the NPR interview. He's a classy guy.
DeleteMy family still calls each other "Abby Normal" at times. LOL
ReplyDeleteMel is a national treasure.
ReplyDeleteUgh, Mel's granddaughter is only 15 :(
ReplyDeletePoehler
Silverman: Ball gagged or beaten quiet, her choice
Leachman
No friggin pictures of Teri Garr, you gotta hang me w/ Frau Blucher?? Damn!
Count, sadly Teri Garr has MS or something equally sad. Remember her loveliness for your fantasies. I think she would appreciate it.
DeleteLove him!
ReplyDeleteMel Brooks is freakin fabulous...odd pose for his granddaughter, though.
ReplyDeleteDavid Lynch is a genius. For all you youngins out there, you need to watch Twin Peaks on Netflix.
Sarah Silverman looks really cute there.
The Peter Boyle /Gene Hackman scene in Young Frankenstein slays me.
ReplyDeleteSome great moments in Blazing Saddles, too.
Is Spaceballs a Brooks movie, too? I think it is but will leave it up to the comments experts to verify.
Yep, that's a Brooks movie too. He's awesome.
Delete@Naughty, I was SO excited to see Twin Peaks on Netflix. I was just a BIT too young to appreciate it during its original run. Cannot wait to revisit as a "grown-up".
ReplyDeleteTried it out. Reeeeeeeeellllyyy slow & the music got on my nerves. Amazing first episode but the gf beating theme is hard to watch. These times are different from them times.
DeleteMakes me sad to see Lara Flynn Boyle & the other datk haired chick, plus Madchen Amick-so unbelievably fresh faced and GORGEOUS. Time and plastic surgery destroyed LFB. What an amazing career. She was so very talented and Hollyweird GOT HER.
I cannot recall the other girl who played the daughter of the Hotel owner. She came & went more quickly. Sherilynn Fenn? My memory just isn't what it used to be. Too lazy to check her IMDB. I thought she had some talent too but LFB did the best of all of them.
Seeing her wander around looking like a burn victim combined with an aging Garbo vibe just breaks my heart.
Mel made me laugh but I was morr into David Lynch. Film school student. Whut can I say. I liked the darker tales. NOW I appreciate stupid comedy. And face it, Mel's stuff is stupid vaudeville based schtik. He is still a genius but not to my taste.
Sara Silverman looks absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteShe looks very good FOR HER. But that girl has NO IDEA how to dress. At ALL.
DeleteI don't understand the Sarah Silverman hate. I love her!
ReplyDeleteLove Mel, too!
Anyone else think his granddaughter looks way too much like Paris Hilton?
Kumquat, I don't find SS funny either.
DeleteI have a hilarious Carl Reiner story for you that is legendary in my family. Apparently as a tiny tot of 5 we were at the airport and for some reason Mr. Reiner thought I was cute and spoke to me. I proudly told him I was wearing new underwear and asked him (in all innocence) if he would like to see them. Fortunately for all he declined. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling old seeing how old they got. We are a family of Mel fans. Love him, and Carl.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Anne Bancroft is no longer here.
ReplyDeleteOh, PugsterMom...that story is so cute. The innocence of kids...I love it.
ReplyDeletektmonster: carve out plenty of time for Twin Peaks. You won't want to stop once you start! Seeing things "wrapped in plastic" will never be the same for you.
@Tigercat Yes! Spaceballs was co written and directed by Mel. Love that movie!
ReplyDeleteYoung Frankenstein (that's Frahnk en Steen!!), Blazing Saddles and Men in Tights(tight tights) are my favorites, but if it's Mel Brooks, I'll watch it. Every time I see Cloris Leachman on Raising Hope I think of Frau Bueller. *neighs!* I do miss Madeline Kahn as well.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who love Mel Brooks has GOT to watch this. I promise you will love it. http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/carl-reiner-mel-brooks-i-want-sandwiches-i-want-chicken/
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Mel Brooks movie is High Anxiety. I could watch that every day and never get tired of the jokes.
ReplyDeleteBlazing Saddles, Space Balls and Young Frankenstein are must see movies.
Thanks Mel!!
Young Frankenstein! yay!! Walk this way! Hump?! What hump?!
ReplyDeleteMy bf and I were up in Hollywood last night, and drove by the red carpet for this as it was being prepared for guests. We wished we could go to it. Both of us are big fans.
ReplyDeleteBlazing Saddles is the funniest movie I have ever seen. And I do mean EVER. The beans scene ... I can't help it. It still makes me laugh. That's my humor. Don't judge me. ;)
ReplyDeleteHistory Of The World Part 1 is my favorite- I can recite the movie verbatim.
ReplyDeleteMy parents traveled with them many years ago to the same resort, I believe in St.John. He was very quiet, and she was the one making everyone laugh.
ReplyDeleteFrau Blücher!
