Amanda Bynes Parents' Filing For Conservatorship

Tomorrow morning, Amanda Bynes' parents are headed to court to try and place Amanda in a conservatorship. Apparently doctors treating Amanda say she has signs of schizophrenia and would like to treat her for up to two more weeks. You know Amanda must be hating that and probably thought she would be in and out after a few hours like she was when this happened in New York. I'm not sure Amanda's parents are the best people to be in charge of her. They seem oblivious to her and what she is doing. It seems from the outside that they don't particularly care what has been going on and have remained completely quiet. Sure, there have been some rumblings, but they never flew to New York. They have always said they would try and talk to Amanda when she came back to LA. I also think, that unlike Britney Spears, that Amanda will fight this and will try and block any kind of conservatorship. I think it will all come down to what the doctors have to say and what the person assigned to the case as Amanda's counsel has to say.

  1. I'm sure Amanda would've welcomed them with open arms if they flew to New York.

  2. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: unless you've been in this position with a family member, you have absolutely no right to judge the situation. Metal health laws are very pro-patient - it is very, very difficult to force people into treatment, unless they're a proven danger to themselves or others. And once there, it's extremely difficult to hold them for any length of time if they don't consent to treatment. Peace and good vibes to this poor girl and her parents.

    3. Agree Frufra - I guess unless enty sees parents trying to grab attention with public interviews about concern for their daughter that they mustn't care too much. We have no idea what has been going on between the crazy one and her family. Which frustrates enty because we must have a right to know.

  3. I have heard it all from her "faking" it for publicity ala Jacquin Phoenix, drug abuse and mental illness. Whatever it is I just hope somebody intervenes and gets this girl some much needed help. I have a soft spot for AB since I recall loving her as a kid on "ALL THAT".

  4. Just because her parents have been quiet doesn't mean they don't care. They know her better than anyone and how they choose to handle things is up to them.
An adult child with mental health issues is very difficult for parents. Sometimes they have to let things happen before they can legally step in.
I have family members who have gone through similar situations. It is horrible for everyone. Thankfully they didn't have gossip sites judging them.

  5. Maybe they were worried if they intervened too soon, she would off herself or something.

  6. Shit, if the parents talk, they're attention-seeking assholes. If they don't, they don't care.

Give them a break! They're not the Lohans.

  8. Her parents were damned if they do, damned if they don't. But, thank goodness we have your knowledgable insight into caring for an out of control schizophrenic drug addict who happens to be an adult.

  9. I can't see how they'd be any worse than letting her manage her own affairs. Really, she'd even be better off with the Jackson family than on her own.

  11. Denial can take hold of anyone. Since schizophrenia hits in your 20's, many parents take awhile to accept that their formerly-functioning teen has reverted to a state where they can't take care of themselves.

  12. Amanda is an adult, and that makes it difficult for her parents to do anything but sit back and wait for the meltdown. And just because they are seeking a conservatorship, it doesn't mean they will get it. Amanda can hire a good lawyer and talk her way out and around the legal system.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So this must be a different Enty than the one that said he didn't believe Amanda's parents let her be molested as she claimed because he's met them and they were nice?

You guys might want to check in with each other.

    1. I thought so too! When did this fake enty stuff start??

  14. This is weird, just a few weeks ago Enty was praising her parents.

Sad sad, I didn't know schizophrenia hits in the 20s. AThe spouse of a friend of mine works at the psych ward in a major hospital here and said the schizophrenics are her favorite and easiest patients because they are happy to be treated, they know they need the meds and aren't in denial like so many bipolars are. Maybe when Amanda gets some meds and her head clears she'll realize she does need treatment.

I don't wish this on any parents, they are helpless with a grown child.

  15. I thought they had to wait for her to be in Cali because the laws are different. Still not sure how they can do anything unless she is actually living there but maybe being in the state with no place to live in NY makes it her residence as she owns a house near the scene o the campfire?

    1. Exactly what I was thinking. Her parents most likely sought the advice of attorneys. She wasn't in LA very long before she was given much needed help. I think they were waiting for her to return.
Bottom line, nobody knows the behind the scenes details. The important thing is she is getting much needed help now, and her parents are involved. God bless everyone involved. It must be extremely painful.

    2. My thoughts as well. I hope that poor girl still has money left so she can live the rest of her life in peace. She is so sick and deserves some privacy....says me as I comment on a gossip site story about her...heh.

  16. So after all the racist tweets that were quickly deleted, the haggard appearances in court, accusing cops of groping -now they wanna assume responsibility of her???!!!

Typical , let the whitegirl dance on the edge all she wants but save her from falling over.

  18. Wow some people just don't get this. Amanda is an adult. Whether her parents give a crap or not is not the issue. They don't have legal standing at this point to make decisions for her. Maybe they wish they did and maybe they've had enough of her shenanigans. I don't know. But the truth is the law makes it difficult and nearly impossible for them to intervene. Been there. I know. It is an incredibly high standard that needs to be met to get conservatorship without consent.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm quite sure that is was easier for Britney's family to get a conservatorship because there were children to use as leverage for her cooperation. Amanda is a trickier situation. I for one wish her well and hope this will be the turning point she needs.

  20. Have you ever tried to have. Conversation with a schizophrenic that is not on their meds? During my psych nursing rotation I did. Omg it was exhausting!

    1. @Amy one of my best friends was diagnosed. When I would visit her in hospital, the "conversations" we would have were so off the wall, now looking back, I have to laugh about it. She was obsessed with Ne-Yo and was convinced he was sending me messages about her through his songs. The kicker was only I could interpret the messages to her.

    2. But how was that funny?

    3. @Kels - if you've ever been through it, you realize (at least I realized, I'll say) that it's laugh or cry in that situation. It's so absurdly sad that sometimes you just have to laugh to get through it.

  21. Also wish her well-and her family too. It's a tough situation and the mental health laws are strict and pro patient. If she doesn't cooperate it will be very very hard.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And I believe it was hard for Britney's family also. Tore them up. And the press ate it up and blamed the parents quite a bit. This is never a good situation and worse going through it so publicly. Painful for all.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ugh. Okay. I know I've said this before, but I really am thisclose to never coming to this site again. The new writer sucks. I would give anything to have the bad grammar and spelling, but mostly underlying kindness, of the real Enty back.

This trick is a condescending, hypocritical bitch completely lacking in wit. The attempts at "humor" and "snark" are pathetic and transparent.

As for the Bynes situation, if they'd been all up in her business, you would've called them famewhores or hangers-on. The fact that they had to wait for legality issues to come around to their favor in dealing with their ADULT offspring is just a fact of the sad state of mental health care.

  24. Can't believe it's Amanda Bynes that pulls me out of years of lurking. Hello, all!

It will be much harder to block a conservatorship now that she has set a fire that potentially destroyed a person's home and potentially killed/maimed herself and her dog. She has demonstrated herself to be a danger to self and society. Usually families are hoping something like this will happen (a serious event in which, luckily, no one was harmed) so that they finally have legal justification for taking action.

  25. I remember lots of conversations about the mental health issue after the Sandy Hook killings, about how it's impossible to get an adult committed if they don't want to, it can only happen after the law is broken. I didn't know this, and it's appalling. We've still got a long way to go when it comes to mental health being considered equal to other illnesses.

    ReplyDelete

    1. We do, indeed, have a long way to go before mental health is held equal to other illnesses. However, the case here is one of civil rights. People have the right to be mentally ill and refuse treatment. People have the right, impaired judgment or not, to not be incarcerated for treatment against their will. The only time this civil right can be infringed is when a person has demonstrated themselves to be a clear and significant danger to themselves and/or others. This means that sometimes a person's first demonstration of danger to self or others is actually deadly, and it's too late. Thankfully, in Amanda's case, it's not yet too late.

  27. true about that legal justification-it may help their case.

lucky its not worse though as often times it is

    and sometimes its just irretrievable.

As much as the laws are written to protect civil liberties and medical privacy.......in cases like this they also work against parents getting help for their adult children.

I understand why-but it doesn't make it any easier

  33. Just because her parents are not talking to the media does not mean that they don't care. Based on your rationale, the Lohans are the parents of the year.

If she is suffering from mental health problems, and it certainly sounds like she is, I hope she can recover and get well. Maybe work again!

  34. Chiming in to agree with msgirl and Jessica, it wasn't but a few weeks ago that Amanda's parents were doing all they could to help but she was rejecting them, according to this site, and now they've been ignoring her? Discoflux said, the kind Enty voice is gone.

  35. I hope I don't get flamed for this comment. I am not saying AB would have ever gone as far as this person. This is an example of how hard it is to intervene on an Adult child`s behalf.

In May 2012 Ian Stawicki killed 5 people and then himself. His parents had been trying to get him help for years, but since he did not pose a threat to himself and was an adult, the parents could not intervene.

"We let him down and we let a lot of other people down, too, by not effectively being able to intervene," Walter Stawicki

    http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2018328041_stawicki01m.html

I am glad that AB is physically ok. It could have been a lot worse...she could have burnt herself up, started a massive fire or hurt other people. I do hope she gets mental health help.

    1. Mental health professionals are often frustrated by the limitations of what they can do in such situations. They often have a strong sense of where things are likely headed without intervention, and yet they do not have legal authority to act. Amanda posed a risk to society when she dropped a bong out of the window in an NYC high rise. Apparently that was considered insufficient demonstration of risk for warranting involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. If she had hurt herself or others in the LA fire, people would have been looking back at the call made in NYC and questioning what happened there.

  36. Sometimes, as the parent/loved one of an addict/alcoholic, you have to choose your own sanity. Addiction is a disease which makes EVERYONE sick...everyone in the family ends up sick, and sometimes you have to make the hard, painful decision to separate yourself. Perhaps that is what AB's parents have done. AB is an adult. They can't bring her home and lock her in her room. We don't know what they HAVE tried to do, and until AB wants help, there is nothing they CAN do.

  37. TMZ is saying that that Amanda has spoken and knows there's a good Amanda and bad Amanda. Now it's disgusting if this is true and a source leaked private info, but on the other hand, if she does know this then there's hope - recognition is the first step to trying to get better.

lc, I didn't know this story, why would you get flamed? We have a problem in our society if this is not addressed.

  38. Agree with so many of you. How can Enty (Jax) criticize Michael Lohan for running to the media and then say Amanda's parents don't care because they dont speak out publicly?

The new Enty is mean, not funny and apparently the Queen of Hypocrisy.

  39. Yeah, I immediately thought of Enty's post a while back about them being nice. Huh.

  40. rajahcat, I agree and I would think someone who has a law degree, even if they practice entertainment law, would surely be able to grasp that the law doesn't always fit what should be done.

I don't know what ENT LAWYER expects. You want somebody to step but it shouldn't be her parents because they don't care and they don't care because they haven't stepped in?

None of us no what is going on because we're all on the outside including you. If you weren't then you'd just be a bigger hypocrite for not stepping in yourself so none of us know what her parents have really done. Not everyone wants to be in the news everyday and thinks it's the best way to help someone by announcing it to the press. Take it down a notch, please.

  42. I agree with all of you who understand the limitations of our current laws in dealing with mentally ill family members who refuse treatment. It can be heartbreaking to watch someone you love self-destruct, without having any way to stop it. My heart goes out to Amanda's parents. They have probably run into the same brick walls that a lot of us have, but haven't sent out a press release with each one.
