Gender Reversed Blurred Lines
I wonder if the song would have been as popular if it were done this way originally. It is really well done.

No TI, no bueno.
love this!
They did good!
Meh not impressed. Come on ladies, we can do better! Hunky men this time...
I thought of this last week when this song came on while I was driving... in my head, the men would have been sexualized as MEN, rather than as women.
1) Why bother doing this unless you're going to use the cast of Magic Mike?
2) I'd rather watch this
This is lame. We don't find gay men attractive. That guy had more make up on than the ladies. We need hunky men like the guy in the diet coke commercial or the zesty Italian dressing commercial.
RE-DO!
It made me laugh, although it would have been much more effective if the men hadn't clearly been drag queens. There's not much sexual frisson between them and the ladies, who give the impression of being slightly on the lesbian side themselves.
I actually like the original video and don't find it derogatory to women at all. The women look happy, confident and not particularly interested in or dependent on the men. Then again, I live in Europe, where nudity is no big thing.
My favourite part of this video isn't the mostly naked guys (which is pretty great) but the ladies singing the song! WAYYYY better than Robin Thicke; his voice irritates the bejeezus out of me.
@Miranda, I agree that the ladies sound great, particularly the white lady who sings the lead, although the tall, black woman also seems to have a very good voice we don't get to hear very much of.
My takeaway was that this is actually a very good song, that survives being taken away from the original video quite well.
And also that the guy with the "stop" sign on his ass looks entirely unconvincing. The gentleman needs an "Open For Business" sign instead.
Lame because they are only objectifying what appears to be gay men. Use some straight manly men and then it might be ok. Then again the singing is horiffic.
Did a little research - apparently the men dancing were the ones driving the making of this video. They are part of a Seattle-based "boylesque" group of male burlesque dancers and it was that group that hired the women. So, no effeminate men, no video.
I wish the guys were straight and sexy. It almost seems like they're making it campy having women hitting on gay men. I want to see hot Chris Helmsworths up there.
Using gay men defeats the entire purpose of the parody.
Why would these women find gay men attractive?
So in the end, it fails as parody!
@Della throw in the 2 guys from the Draino snake ad and you've got yourself a deal!
Great singing, but a speedo and tennis shoes? I don't think so.
Exactly! That's what I was thinking! I was picturing Channing, Gaga's boyfriend, and Joe ManJello not a bunch of twinks and trannies!
Back in the late 80's Letterman's ex Merrill Markoe did a sketch on HBO's "Not Necessarily the News" where she dressed bodybuilders in tiny black spandex outfits & had then doing air guitar and drums behind her as she discussed the merits of the paper vs plastic debate. It was a straight sendup of the Robert Palmer video "Addicted to Love" with the 5 identical models pretending to be his band.
Love it! Singing is better than original, IMO
I guess this was Pharrell Williams' preferred option for the video.
It was ok. Better if the men were hunks. And no, they don't sound better than Robin.
WAY Better! : )
