Blind Item #7
This A list opera singer. Is there such a thing as an A list opera singer? Yes, within the world of opera they are A list. If you take them out to the real world, enough people know his name where he would be a nice solid B list celebrity. Right now he is being investigated by Italian police for having a string of 14-16 year old escorts that he hired and had sex with almost every night and were provided by a certain very high level Italian who has been known to have some hookers in his life.

ReplyDeleteDomingo, Carreras, and Allagna are respectively Mexican, Spanish, and French. Bocelli is Italian but would you call him an "opera" singer? He only really does concerts although the music is mostly opera. Maybe Marcello Giordani, Fabio Armiliato, or Vittorio Grigolo?

ReplyDeleteHe's the only one I can think of that would be considered that famous by the public. Placido has been VERY ill as of late. Carreras is probably the least famous of the three tenors.

Plácido Domingo has just left hospital because a blood clot in his lung, carreras is (or has been) also ill (leukemia), so I don't think any of them fits. This has to be Italian, but Bocelli isn't exactly an opera singer.
ReplyDeleteAndrea Bocelli sings opera like André Rieu plays the violin. This is crossover classical music that appeals only to people who don't listen to classical music. And he's definitely the only singer that Joe Sixpack could possibly name.
ReplyDeleteI read a few years ago a blind item about some impaired singer being into teenage boys. So, I'm not that surprised (whether it's true or not) that there's another blind about him and girls this time.
In the opera world Andrea is NOT an opera singer. I used to work for an opera company and sang for years myself. That said, if it's a truly Italian singer and we are going for present instead of late (thus outing Pavarotti and Enrico Caruso), I'm putting out the options of:

Those who say Andrea is an opera singer are the same who put Sarah Brightman in that category.
Okay just reread the blind. If they're not Italian and considered A + then it's either Ramon Vargas, Domingo, Flores, or Carreras.
