Karen Elson got a restraining order against her husband, singer Jack White, after a judge believed her that she fears for her life around him. Apparently Jack has been calling her and texting her and sending her e-mails and none of them are very nice. He is not pleased that she decided to leave him and take their kids with her. He is also not pleased that she wants spousal and child support from him and has been letting her have it in a variety of different ways. Apparently he has threatened violence and she is also scared for the safety of their kids. When you get a restraining order because you are scared for your kids, then it is pretty serious. Everyone always sees the happy go lucky American Pickers guest star Jack White and what he wants you to see. He is a totally different person in private.
I really want to like him; he has done some amazingly generous things for Detroit.

I read elsewhere that she doesn't have a problem with his visitation with their children the restraining order is specifically for him.

ReplyDeleteDewieTheBear: Around the time this happened, Jack White was dating or had dated the guitarist Marcie Bolen of the Von Bondies. She also had worked on the cover booklet for White Stripes' 2001 White Blood Cells album. I always got a feeling and also heard whispers that the fight had something to do with her. Plus, there was lots of drinking and such going on at the time. I remember seeing a number of the 2000 bands in New York get in scrapes with each other. Too much fun = too much trouble.
ReplyDeleteI remember him being at a couple of their shows back in the time. He used to go to a lot of the Detroit Bands back in the 2000's. It seemed like a tight knit community. I think the fight was the beginning of the end for the Detroit scene.(Von Bondies were great live and Jason was talented but they could never pull themselves up).
Jack was very polite the few time I have chatted with him but he always seemed a little more intense and focused than the other guys/gals in the spotlight at the time. But his career has seemed to outlive many of the others so what can you say. (I must admit I love his work and his collaborations. He seems to have a great sense of the history of music and is truly passionate about it)

ReplyDeleteThis is very disappointing to hear, but until we know all the facts I'm willing to cut Jack some slack. (Hah!) I just don't think you can hide seething rage very well for very long. You look at someone like Sean Penn or Josh Brolin and you just KNOW they're abusive assholes. Jack White just doesn't give off that vibe, despite his supposed "weirdness". I've also known women who have pushed their exes to extreme behaviour that just wouldn't otherwise happen. No, I'm not making excuses for anybody. DeleteThe fight with the guy from the Von Bondies was a one punch to the face and the receiver of the punch cried about it until White was charged. Yes, he and Meg advertised themselves as siblings in the beginning of the White Stripes; Meg was not down trodden enough by White so as to keep her from marrying Patti Smith's son in White's own back yard- in a double ceremony with one of White's Raconteur's bandmates. I believe Meg's anxiety truly was the reason that kept her from continuing on the White Stripes. Karen Elson has many many times famously spouted off how wonderful Jack White has been to her and to her children. So, I am not about to jump on the bandwagon here and blast this man right now.

Many times they are very sweet and loving, quiet nice guys in public but at home it's a bit different. I always thought I was a strong person but it happens slowly and then you just try to keep up the front for everyone because you don't want to make it worse and you keep hoping that things will change. Any may be, wink, wink, if it had been me riding around with Jack in the outback, there may have been a happier outcome for all. I have worked in the legal business to know and understand that protective orders are issued out of an abundance of precaution. But, to say someone is threatened by emails, (which I have not gone over to TMZ to read), is kinda like being scared of the monster under the bed- hey, just don't look. With respect to Meg & Jack- I was trying to express that if she had any trepidation or hard feelings, I am pretty damn sure she wouldn't have wanted to get married in his back yard.
