Her friends banded together and put out word to everyone that Marcia need a gig asap - even it if was a one day job - to keep her insurance. She began to get more work after that. I remember Entertainment Tonight doing a story on this. I'm not sure where the Simpsons gig figures into this regarding the timeline.
She appeared in the single best episode of the second best sit-com of all time, when she was Rev. Jim's blind date at Latka and Simka's shloogel on "Taxi"

I remember the episode they did when Bart realized how lonely Mrs. Crabapple was and he faked a suitor by mail and used Gordie Howe's picture for the man. It was one of the most touching episodes.
