Next year when Barbara Walters finally leaves The View and cuts her work week down to 60 hours Katie Couric will be replacing her. Katie's talk show is still doing poorly in the ratings and Katie wants to do less work for a better reward so what could be better than working a couple of hours a day and making more money? A couple of executives told me it is the perfect replacement for Barbara. A few years ago I think it would have been a great idea, now I'm not so sure. Back in the day when Katie was on Today and part of a group she thrived. The Today Show always had record ratings because she could be part of a team. Tell me the last time she was part of an on air team. Katie has been doing nightly news and now her own gig and gets to call all the shots and have the spotlight completely to herself. She gets the fame and the glory and has not shared that in a very long time. It is tough to give that up.
I think she will want to dominate the show and bring on guests she wants to bring on and won't be happy getting in five minutes of speaking time in an hour and having to defer and pretending she cares about what others are saying when she really doesn't. The problem is that executives are willing to roll the dice and throw a bunch of money at her to make it happen and they will be stuck for a long time or will have to eat a huge contract.
Couric is not going to work with those buffoons, especially McCarthy.

ReplyDeleteMaybe she wants other people to help carry the burden of a show again? As a solo act, she doesn't only get all the fame and glory, she's also the only target. That's got to be exhausting.

Sherri Shepherd, I love you as a comedic actress, but you can be dumb as a box of rocks (and it really *pains* me to say that b/c I think you're good people). Consider yourself on notice and maybe buy a globe between now and then. Couric does. not. play. Just ask Sarah Palin.
I can't believe this show is still on. The last time I saw it was when my son was a baby and Meredith Viera and Star Jones were there. I say it's time to put it out to pasture. It was Barbara's show...and my son is 12.
ReplyDeleteI saw a little of Queen's talk show Monday and she was really good. I like Katie too, but The View has passed its expiration date. You ladies are moldy, it's time to go.

ReplyDeleteI think this may be why they aren't filling the second open spot on The View.
Hopefully if they give her the show they let her clean some house and bring in some better co-hosts. The show has gone straight down-hill in the past 2 yrs.
I think Katie will do better with a team of people--part of the problem with her show is that she is not a big enough personality to fill the hour by herself. I think if she was part of a group she would be strong and come off better.
Finally! Sit down Barbara and give anyone else a chance. She should have enough money by now. Greedy betch.
