Renowned psychic Sylvia Browne -- a leader in the paranormal world who appeared regularly on television and radio and also wrote dozens of top-selling books -- died Wednesday in a northern California hospital, according to her website. She was 77.
In 1992, Browne and her then estranged husband were indicted on several charges of investment fraud and grand theft. She pleaded no contest and got a year probation. I feel for those people who hung on her every word, especially Amanda Berry's mom who died not knowing her daughter was alive.
Browne predicted she would die at the age of 88. She died at 77. Make of that what you will.
I used to watch her, as I now watch Long Island Medium. I guess I find it difficult to believe that women can prey on the vulnerable. The more I watch Teresa Caputo, I do think she's just another Sylvia Browne, just more energetic and better at diverting people's attention when she's off on a reading. Enty should have an open post about paranormal experiences. I'd love to know that our loved ones do come back, and hear some stories that are truly believable. RIP, she has to deal with her maker now if she was faking it all those years.
Teresa's not fake, she's real. She goes up to random strangers to do readings. I like her and I can only think of one instance where she was somewhat wrong. Plus she's from long island and that hair style of hers is quite mesmering. Her hair should have its own show.
Those psychic shows are heavily edited, we don't see all the misses and there's no guarantee the person is nodding in response to what she's saying on TV. If she repeats something the person just told her, like "my dad died last month," she can then say "Your father passed recently?" and they edit out the person telling her that beforehand. I think it's interesting she has some of the same patter as Jon Edward (I think that's his name), the guy who had a syndicated tv show several years ago. I'd love to see a show where they take a random person off the street and train them on how to do a cold reading, I bet they could make you believe they were speaking to the dead and/or reading your mind. I think Teresa is a kick and entertaining, I just hate to think about how much money people spend just to hear their loved one is proud of them, wants them to stop feeling guilty, and is watching out for them.

Not just amanda berry,but one well publicized case of an abducted little boy where she described where the body was in vivid detail. Turns out he was alive and well! In an interview with her first husband of many years he recalled how one night after a group reading he asked her if she was for real,or if she was fleecing people. She said if theyre dumb enough to fall for it then thats there fault. Now i use her books as door stoppers. In her prediction book she details the end of the world,armageddon,many dates have already passed and nothing happened. She was absolutely full of shit and preying on grieving people. Sick.
I remember watching her on the today show or something similar in December '89 - I was 12. They were talking about what to expect in the coming decade and beyond and she said that we'd have flying cars by 2010. Yeah. She was greaaaaaaaat. *fart sound*
I was a 90s kid I remember coming Home from grade school and her being in montel yea she was a fake but she was entertaining and that was her real job. RIP
After reading a site called longislandmediumfake.com it made me rethink a lot of the TLC show. I really don't think she'd go in cold to a store, with a camera crew following her, and not have some info ahead of time. If you watch with a jaded eye, as I now do, you will realize that she fishes a lot. "Who has the departed older man?" in a room full of people is bound to bring a response. "He says don't feel bad that you weren't able to help him", or "Do you carry a piece of his jewellery?" all lead to her next comments. If they say yes, she's right, if they say no, they usually add that they keep a ring/cross/whatever on their bedside table or somesuch and she turns that into a "There you go!". I'm really disappointed but it IS a TV show after all. Also, there is no history of her online anywhere. Things that make you go hmmmm.
I remember reading a few of her books years ago and finding several glaring contradictions. One that I remember now is she said humans don't get reincarnated back to earth for something like one hundred years after they die. However, she believed her granddaughter was the reincarnation of her beloved grandmother. Of course. That right there showed me she was a fraud. I don't see how her editor didn't catch them.
There are very few genuine psychics in this world, but they definitely do exist. I saw one a few times years ago and she was incredible, but then she moved away. I've never met anyone like her since.

The Long Island Medium is full of shit. A staffer Sal on the Howard Stern show wanted to have her on as a guest. The only way she would come on is if she could spend time alone with the person first for 20 minutes and no cameras.
Howard was quick enough to see the bullshit she was going to cold read the person first then it looks like she knows all these facts about them and pull a dead grandma out of the air based on facts the person says in the pre-meeting.
A friend of mine was going to see her in Fargo, ND, but that show got cancelled/delayed for what was described as an "unforeseen illness," which I found funny. The show was rescheduled for this April. Of course it's been cancelled again. Why would a psychic even schedule a show she wasn't going to be alive for? Oh, right.
My friend had a close family member die when she was young, and she looks for comfort from these things. Horrible people like Sylvia out there preying on the suffering of strangers....
She was such a fraud! She was charging $800 for a half hour reading, and she was trying to push her "psychic sons" for $400 a pop. I hope that whole family of gifters get put out of business.
...but this was no surprise to her, of course.
