Blind Item #9

This A list cable television talk show host is working on a divorce behind the scenes. He doesn't want anyone to talk about it until it is all settled. It looks like he has one or two skeletons in that closet he wants you to think is squeaky clean. This is kind of a sad one.

  2. Conan is my first guess. I still think he's great, but there's something about the candid remarks he sometimes makes on the show that make me think he's not as devoted as he would like us to think.

  3. Jimmy Fallon isn't on cable.

  4. Conan is sure to be stressed out about his bottom of the late nite pyramid status over there at TBS, and Jimmy Fallon securing the top spot.
So who's taking the brunt of his unhappiness? Wife and kids of course.

  5. Jon Stewart? Please please please no.

  6. Uh oh. If Stephen Colbert, I'm very sad.

...and yet, then that would mean he's AVAILABLE!!

  7. I really hope it is Conan.
He managed to make Leno the villain with him losing the Tonight Show, when in fact it was NBC & its GE owners that made the decision, because the affiliates were in revolt over the low ratings
Leno wanted to leave NBC, but his contract didn't allow it without NBC paying him a huge penalty. Supposedly over $140 million.
But Leno doesn't have an agent or manager & he got screwed with that contract, because as long as NBC gave him a show, he had to stay. So they gave him that 10 PM show, but with guest restrictions & he had low ratings because no real stars went on it.
So his low ratings led to really low 11 PM local news rating, which caused the affiliate revolt & then Conan had even lower ratings.

So if it's Conan, a well deserved payback for being an ass!

  8. Must be Conan, I can't imagine Enty giving a rip about Fallon or Kimmel, and no one cares about Hannity.

  9. Kudos to @Becca for making Leno sound like a helpless victim if not a downright saint.

    1. I didn't have to make Leno sound like the victim, he was the victim!
Look what happened because of NBC/GE machinations:
Leno's pay has been cut drastically. He even gave up 33% of it so that the Tonight Show employees wouldn't get fired.
The ratings for every late night talk show have suffered major declines.
Conan's ratings are a joke & they are in a long term decline.

    2. You're right. Leno is a great guy. If Conan's ratings had been good NBC would not have asked jay back. But, Hollywood hates a guy with morals

  10. @Janzy Chris Hardwick has a long time girlfriend but he isn't married.

Agree with you @Becca Conan actually started the contract war when NBC wanted him to renew The Late Show but he wanted a guarantee that he would get The Tonight Show in 5 years. The executives didn't think Leno would still be #1 and agreed to it. Leno even announced he was going to pass the show to Conan trying to be a good company man.

Coan took a gamble and lost. Yet ironically is the highest paid late night talk show host. But I don't think money matters to him he wanted The Tonight Show gig more than money that will always be a bug up his butt.

While Leno and his late Agent did some shady things to wrestle The Tonight show away from Carson and Letterman. I never thought he was the villain in the story either.

It was the impatience of Conan, Jeff Zuckerman and Ben Silverman's incompetence as network executives trying to resole and unresolvable issue based on ego, greed and ratings.

While I do think it is hilarious that Jimmy Fallon who had no dog in the fight ultimately came up the winner.

    1. Pretty sure Conan is even behind Chelsea Lately in the ratings.

  13. So I wonder what the sad skeletons are...

  14. Slightly OT, but anyone interested in the sad life of a late-night TV icon should read Henry Bushkin's new biography of Johnny Carson. The guy had the world at his feet - sort of like Jon Stewart today - but he had tremendous emotional problems and basically screwed up every single one of his close relationships. At the end of his life, he was pretty much friendless, sailing aimlessly around on a yacht, surrounded by employees.

    1. Yes I read it. Makes me feel sorry for Johnny and even more for the people around him. His old witch of a mother didn't come off too good, and Frank Gifford? tsk tsk :)

  15. Pierce Morgan to be different. I'm sure he has a ton of skeletons in his closet.

  16. It has to be somebody really nice, and most don't come across that way, except for Conan, so he's my guess as well.

  17. No Topper Colbert is mine! LOL.

  18. Nutty, he had so many demons, so sad to hear about his loveless end.

  20. I hope this one isn't true, only 3 i can think of Conan Colbert and Stewart, and I really like all three guys.

  21. Piers Morgan is not A list except in his own tiny mind.

  22. I agree that Conan is a snide, manipulative little unfunny asshole but I don't think this is him. It's probably John Stewart. I've heard cheating things about him (that Olivia Munn for one) over the past 5 years.

  23. I am confused. Conan is cable? Don't think so.

  24. That aspect of Carson's life has been talked about a lot over the years, even by him in the few interviews he did. His parents were pretty awful so it sounds like he had a classic detachment disorder. My friend just went through counseling so she has a version of it from having parents that didn't nurture at all. Sad stuff.

    1. No matter how successful you are as an adult, $$$ wise anyway, an emotionally effed up childhood is so hard to shake off.

  25. As much as I LOVE him, don't think Chris Hardwick is A...yet, plus, not married. I could buy Conan, but Dr. Phil makes more sense. You know...because he trys to fix people, and don't he and his wife always walk off set hand-in-hand at the end of the show?

  26. What about Dr. Drew?

  27. "SAD" indicates to me that it is someone beloved. Fallon and Conan are fairly beloved. Letterman does not count because we already know his shenanigans.

    ReplyDelete
  28. CABLE! That automatically rules out Fallon, Letterman, Kimmel, Leno, and Ferguson.

  29. PotPourri makes a good point. Conan is not beloved but Stewart and Colbert are adored. Both have clean, family man reputations with the general public, making a split "sad". Among gossips, I've never heard so much as a whisper about Colbert, the same can't be said for Stewart.
