For the first time in a long time this former A list celebrity/singer did meth last night. She wanted some coke but had to settle for meth. She is in a very dark place right now and the next couple of weeks could determine whether she gets back on track or kills herself.

ReplyDeleteCrank is low-purity methamphetine hydrochloride salt (Crystal Meth) - it is usually smoked, unless you're a real bad addict, in which case it can be crushed and snorted or soluted by water or ether and injected. Methamphetamine itself (Dextro- or Levo-) forms is found in liquid, clear form at room temp. Dextromethamphetamine is sold legally as Desoxsyn (in hydrochloride form) to treat ADHD and obesity. Levomethamphetamine is weaker than Dextromethamphetamine and can be found in various pharmacological OTC drugs. Almost all street Meth is Dextro- with hydrochloride salt (which is used to cut the epehedrine from OTC cold and allergy drugs).
DeleteCrystal meth (Methamphetamine Hydrochloride salt) is cut with iodine and red phosphorus - which makes it pure. Crank is not and is cut with all sorts of other adulterants, which makes it low purity. At the street level - crank, speed, meth are all the same thing depending on what people call it where you live.
And regardless of form, they cause your dopamin receptors to explode and it's a really nasty neurotoxin. No Beuno.

ReplyDeleteEEwww I made this mistake about 12 years ago- no one in the redneck sportbar could find coke. So we said to the offer of meth. Worst idea ever. You cant sleep for days, even when you want to..Ohhh, and the things you do holyshitballs.. I can be all alone and have a memoryflash of what I engaged in for those 3 days and still blush

Lol Rosie, very similar experience - that was the end of my weekend tricks, when one night turned into three, thought I was going to have a heart attack. Worst part, I lived near the beach and it was summer, the ice cream van would troll around every hour for two days, playing its ice cream song. It was a living nightmare.

Oh, my guess, Gaga! She's losing it.
Gaga-the failure of her new(ish) album has taken her to a very dark place. She just got out of rehab when the record launched and was not met with the obsessive fawning over her as the prior albums. She is truly addicted to the spotlight and if she is not getting enough, the old demons pop back up.

ReplyDelete@Reno: Yes and no. Both are methamphetamines, but Meth/Crystal is generally higher quality stuff and crank is more biker made it in his garage type stuff.

Your problem there was consuming meth like it is coke. You don't do line after line of meth until it is all gone. A good sized line at the beginning of the night and a small one when the bar closes is usually fine and keeps you going till the sun is up atleast.
With the cokeheads doing meth, it seems like 15 minutes after the burn is gone they are jonesing for another line. That is a scenario for 3 sleepless days and some meth psychosis.
Where I live meth is much harder to come by and much more expensive than coke. Coke= $60-70/gm, Meth= $100-120/gm.
Could be Gaga, but sounds more like Courtney Love. And I don't think Enty meant suicide, but an overdose.

ReplyDeleteVery informative, trogodor. My only critique would be your use of the word "cut". I feel "processed" would be a better term as cut is mire lo ike adding baby laxative and lydocaine to blow inorder to stretch 1kg into 2. Red phosphorous is just a catalyst.
ReplyDeleteYea, I can see the confusion. In my old lab, anytime we reduced, we just called it "cutting". And not to harp, but technically Red Phosphorus and Hydriodic acid mixed with water would be a reagent reaction (synthesis) This forms phosphorus triiodide, which allows the hydriodic acid to be more efficient. This is for pure meth or Crystal. For red phosphorus to be "just a catalytic" it would be through catalytic hydrogenation and introduce a whole bunch of impurities. Of course, of the two methods, catalytic hydrogenation is easier because you can use ammonia or some other easily available akaline as the catalyst, which is why meth labs are always exploding.
DeleteThe funny thing about making meth is that you don't even need to use cold meds. You can just order raw ephedrine from India. Our lab (a national Federal Energy Lab) once was tasked with investigating why a company registered in Modesto, Ca ordered two tons of raw ephedrine from India via Mexico. The feds got there and discovered it was a normal house where two brothers formed an LLC and just ordered it from India.

ReplyDeleteWow, in the old days crystal was less expensive than blow but then someone I was kinda dating sold it. I have never stayed up days because like the Count said, you don't consume like coke. However, days afterwards I did crash hard!

ReplyDeleteCourtney Love isn't in a low place right now. She's been having a fling with Aaron Sorkin. Gaga isn't a former A list singer/celebrity -- I think she's probably A or A+ list even now. Brittany was A+. I don't know much about Fergie, maybe that's the best guess.
