This A+ list diva is millions of dollars over budget for her latest record and it also sounds like crap. She needs to go back in the studio to fix it but can't find the time energy or voice to do it. Look for it to be delayed yet again. It won't end up in the trash but most people would put it there right now if they listened to it.

ReplyDeleteI love Mariah Carey's voice, I really do. I once mentioned to a friend, who is a trained opera singer, that Mariah's voice is wasted on pop music. She laughed and said that body would be wasted on the opera stage.

ReplyDeleteSherry, I'm nobody's assistant. Never have been, never will be. I just recognize creativity, talent and genius when I see it. Mariah takes pictures with her kids all the time, she just doesn't post all of them. People in the public eye have to respect the needs of their kids (too many don't) so she releases just a few at a time. It's lose/lose, if she released more they'd she say she was using the kids, release less and she's never with them. SMDH

I have Mariah's first big hit album and I remember I bought that album after she had her breakdown and it was damn good, but no doubt aided by the technology advances in the studio.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed though that when Mimi sings live and I believe that she was singing live on some of those occasions because she is now changing the notes in certain songs to lower notes. For whatever reason I don't think Mimi can hit the high notes anymore and I think this must be something she can't be happy about and hard to deal with. Not quite as devastating as Julie Andrews losing her singing voice after surgery though.
People's voices do age, just like everything else. For some people it works better than others. Listen to early Ani DiFranco and compare it to something later (off Revelling/Reckoning is a good place). Her voice matured beautifully and she has learned to work with it.

Not if Mariah is working with the right producers and artists which is what she did with that album Emancipation of Mimi and it is what Celine Dion finally figured out - she has a massive hit with Ne-Yo.

Indeed peoples voices d mature and it can actually get better (mine did) but like all athletes there is a shelf life.
Tina hit it on the head, she doesn't necessarily make music that's relevant any longer.
It is interesting with singers, some of them treat their vocal chords like crap and their voice stays the same, think Rod Stewart, Celine takes very good care of her voice and she still has that voice and for other people, you get those nodules on your vocal chords and need surgery it is a crap shoot. And I imagine there are a whole host of other things that affect the voice that I am not even aware of. I mean look what happened to Whitney Houston, even her speaking voice was not the same.

ReplyDeleteBit of an insult to those of us who actually take care of our kids (got 4 of em, age six on down, cant afford a nanny or the french word for it, so i work in the middle of the night so i can watch them all day), this stupid bitch only sees her kids at photo ops. she is too doped up to care for those kids anyways, she might not remember their names if fontlover isnt there to remind her.

I'll respect her for the voice she used to have, but after AT&T screwed up my land line and you could hear a radio station, I cringe when I hear her voice. I'd call "customer service" at AT&T and be put on hold with elevator music, which would compete with phone music. For some reason, Mariah seemed to get more airplay than anyone else. One rep kept pausing like she didn't want to interrupt, another one said she thought it was funny. No more landline for me! Sorry, Mariah...

Heard a story about MC when she was due to perfom in Jakarta a few years ago. The contract stipulated that no tobacco companies could be involved in the concert as sponsors. She went down to the venue for sound check etc. and saw that the concert had been sponsored by Philip Morris. She didn't say a word, turned round and left and went straight to the airport. She went up hugely in my estimation after that, and she was already up there!

I've always thought she was MV.
My favorite singer but her concert was a total sham. She sang few hits, concentrated on costume changes and wasted 20 minutes of an hour show bringing a birthday cake out for Debbie Allen. All for the low price of $150.00 a ticket. Her back up singers also sang some of her songs while she went off stage and changed. If I could get a refund I would have. It wasn't worth it.
