Fastest Lawsuit In Gossip History

You know those times when a celebrity is outraged by some gossip that is printed about them and starts talking about imminent legal action to give you the impression there might be something wrong about the story but then the celebrity never sues? That wasn't the case with David Bar Katz. Mr. Katz was the person who, along with Philip Seymour Hoffman's assistant discovered Hoffman's body. Yesterday The Enquirer had a huge announcement they made and trumpeted on all their corporate brethren's websites about how they interviews Katz and he told them he was Hoffman's gay lover and also that the night before Hoffman's death Katz had watched Hoffman freebase coke.

About four hours elapsed between the Enquirer announcement and them getting sued by Katz. It took another hour or two before every trace of the story was wiped from the corporate websites. As of this morning, some of the American Media sites had the headline but the link doesn't work. In the complaint Katz says he never spoke to any of the reporters who wrote the story. He never gave an interview to anyone about Hoffman and never saw Hoffman use any drugs and was not Hoffman's gay lover. He is suing for $50M. Here is the big kicker. He is not a public person so, if he is telling the truth, The Enquirer and American Media are going to have to pay a lot of money. Lots. Like wheelbarrows filled with cash kind of money. Even if he was a public figure, if his allegations were true they would probably lose in this case, but wouldn't have to pay much money at all.

  3. I hope he collects every cent. Those poor kids. 10 is old enough to read online stories. What harsh life lessons to learn at such a young age. Saw the arrested folks on TV at their night court appearance. Pretty sure the musician knows he will be in jail a looooong time. Glad they're off the street.

  4. ^^for every one dealer they jail, 10 more come out of the woodwork. The war against drugs is a losing battle.

I'm a long time lurker, sporadic commentator, and I must say it makes me glad to see your familiar pit around ;)

    3. Radar kept it at the top of their site for the first part of the day. I didn't read it, because I thought it was just was it is - a gross exploitation. I guess he could argue that he IS a public figure, but this is the only thing is recognize him for now. I guess that's equally damaging.

  10. Yeah this story was on the front page of the Daily Mail website within seconds. Everybody read it. Even die hard left wingers check out the DM website regularly.
This guy deserves every last penny if it's not true. He was being torn to shreds everywhere yesterday.

  16. It's not a crime, you silly little woman, just a major annoyance. Have you moved to Vermont yet? Is your boyfriend setting up a chore list for you right now? Are you back working in a restaurant?
I know way too much about your life based simply on comments from CDAN. And it is not a very compelling life.

  17. I feel sorry for you.
Most people have un-compelling lives. That's why we read & comment about the extraordinary ones here on CDAN.

I'm not going to argue you into liking me, I don't care. You're just a bully, stick it in, and bullies are the REAL sad characters in this world. Especially anonymous internet bullies. Pathetic.

Agreed. He and PSH family don't this crap at this time. There's a real shitty moral judgement to do this to them and on that principle I hope he gets enough that it hurts them

  19. Hi, auntie liddy!

Tillie----I used to post every day with other old regulars. We had many off-topic convos here over the years, but I'm not ashamed of my life.
Funny, because at least I have the balls to post under my own name for years, unlike someone who's clearly been here as long, but changes up their name for sneak attacks.

  24. Of course PSH was gay, no one is surprised by that. Some friend, watching him freebase. David Katz is an a$$hole. PSH is a selfish a$$hole I feel for his kids and girlfriend. He shouldn't celebrated. I have no patience or sympathy for self destruction. He's a loser.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, that escalated quickly.

(Picture Ron Burgandy gif right about here)

  26. Let me get this straight. PSH's "best friend" never saw him do drugs despite the fact that PSH had gone to rehab, was kicked out by his girlfriend for bringing drugs into their home and was found dead with 70 bags of heroin? Bull! If he lied about that, I might have to think NE was telling the truth.

  27. How did the Enquirer think they'd get away with saying they'd interviewed him directly?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Libby!
    Fuck off losers!
The friend may not have been into drugs & PSH knew that & didn't do them around him. My friends know not to do them around me.
