Sid Caesar, a comedic force of nature who became one of television’s first stars in the early 1950s and influenced generations of comedians and comedy writers, died on Wednesday at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 91.
My parents were from his generation, so we used to watch his show in repeats when I was a kid. He was hilarious. Well worth the google to those who don't know him.
I heard a great piece about his career last night on NPR--I didn't realize he was only 26 when his show was such a big hit--and that by his mid-thirties, his heyday was over. I have seen some of his old shows online--he really formed such a team of great people--most of whom became stars themselves.
I love old comedians. God bless your heart Sid. You and Imogene can do your act for the angels now.
