Blind Item #1
What eccentric actor known for a hit 80's tv show and several big screen character roles, who now dabbles in reality tv, is asking fans to help out a co-star's family who recently suffered an unexpected loss? The actor has plenty of money to spend on his own projects, but is asking fans of his current show to help with funeral costs and rent money.
Well it's hard parting with your own money.

They want their clothes, food, cars and jewelry for free, all the while getting paid millions, but heaven forbid, they donate ANY of their hard-earned(sarcasm) money to a truly needy person. Greedy motherfuckers. I hope whoever this gets their ass kicked by Karma.

There have been hints that he's not such a nice guy. But I also know nothing about the author so it could be a case of sour grapes.

DeleteWhile I get that this chick is somewhat of an introvert (??? - she was part of the Groundlings) she's over sensitive and expects too much. She's lucky Cheri still talked to her, tried to help her out at SNL and even remembered to invite her to this party.
DeleteAnyone remember Sinbad? He was on A Different World. & then recently he's been on Celebrity Apprentice and had his own reality show for a while. I'm not sure if he's even working on anything now though. Or if he's even relevant enough for a BI.
ReplyDeleteInteresting story, @M Brown, but I'm going with sour grapes. Comedic actors (and comedians for that matter) are usually pretty acerbic in real life, and I could see Kimmel doing something like that for laughs. Oteri is the a*hole in that story, though.
ReplyDeleteagree with what someone said above about actors being tightwads but willing to get their mug on camera working the phones for charity drives "asking the peasants for pennies" as Rosie O'donnell put it once...then when they donate their yearly several hundred thousand or million to charity at the end of the year to offset what they owe to the IRS they get the media coverage of a Nobel Prize winner

Delete@M. Brown, I agree with @Seven. You have someone who admits being incredibly uncomfortable at parties who then seems surprised that this party is no exception. Oteri should have been a better friend, but she probably didn't think she was going to have to baby-sit the girl the entire night, either.

ReplyDeleteI don't know, that story doesn't really make me think less of Jimmy Fallon. Girl needs some thicker skin, I do believe there is a reason she didn't make it in Hollywood. If she was so damn witty why didn't she lighten the mood a little and give him some shit back instead of running away in tears.

@M. Brown - I agree with Seven.
ReplyDeleteReading this, I think the onus was on Cheri Oteri - after all, she brought this person to the party. It was on her, to take her around and introduce her, not leave her to fend for herself. I don't know of one person who would do that. So yeah, definitely sour grapes on the writer's part.

ReplyDeleteWow - That was interesting. Not a very nice birthday boy. Not too much loyalty in that group for their old friend, was there? I wouldn't have thought they would be so rude to an old acquaintance. They probably could have had a good writer there, but they mistook quietness for weakness.
I agree with Jessi. She sure spent a lot of time going on and on about how funny and great she was yet she acted like a total sour grape when the time came for her to use that wit. I think she is a bit too bitter although I'm not dismissing what a sucky time she had. It's just that it's time to be a big girl and move on.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with everyone here. First aren't comediens known to be kind of a- holish in real life? Second Cheri comes off looking worse than Jimmy. Third, this person is in the improv sketch comedy world wanting to get her stuff on SNL and she doesn't know who Jimmy is? That's weird. Lastly if the Groundlings were as cut throat as she describes I'm sure Second City is similar. I've always liked the Tina quote about how "bitches get stuff done." I can only imagine what she and Amy did to get where they are. I love them for that too.

ReplyDeleteIt read like Fallon was just making a joke, how he hugged the person like he really knew her, then was all "who is this?" Someone with a different temperament would probably have laughed, too.

But Oteri should have introduced her friend around -- she probably just didn't realize, accustomed to everyone knowing everyone, but still shouldn't abandon her friend in a room full of strangers. I have friends that do that crap to me sometimes and every time I just wanna punch them in the face!
This sounds like a Robin Williams, but I don't think he's in a reality anything.
ReplyDeleteIf it is Bronson Pinchot, seems like he'd probably help, but I don't see him having piles of cash sitting around. More than the average person, I'd imagine, but he's not done anything that pays massive amounts of cash in quite a while.
ReplyDeleteAlso, he's one of those people without a filter, would probably own up to what he could do or not do. The Onion's website AVclub has an awesome interview with him; he says whatever the hell he likes! He's not a celebrity I normally pay much attention to, but that article was pretty great.

Also all of this happened 15 years ago, so maybe she needs to move on.

ReplyDeleteThe Fallon party storyteller is self-pitying and just as me-me-me as the celebs she's slamming. And she's not funny.
I do feel bad for the woman who went to Jimmy Fallon's birthday party with Cheri Oteri. If there were only 10 people there, and they were all famous, then Cheri Oteri should probably not have brought somebody whom Jimmy Fallon didn't know - did Jimmy Fallon say "bring a friend?" If not, it was a faux pas to bring an unannounced +1, but then that's on Cheri Oteri, not Jimmy Fallon.

Having said that, what Jimmy Fallon did was really cruel.
But, she should have / could have used her wit to impress everybody there. I mean, look at it as a free audition in front of 10 very famous people who could maybe get her hired.
At the very least she could have shamed them. When he hugged her and mouthed "WHO IS THIS PERSON" she could have said something that would have checked them all and made them feel embarrassed.
Or am I being naive that rich famous people could be shamed by a "nobody?"

ReplyDeleteI always thought Bronson was a hottie - great hair. I discovered he was the narrator of a great audiobook I had been listening to. The narrator usually announces himself at the beginning of a story, but half the time I miss it. The voice acting was so good that I made a point of looking up the narrator. He's very gifted at voice acting. (The book was The President's Vampire by Chris Farnsworth).
ReplyDeletePinchot is the only one coming to mind...just my two cents, but I've heard Oteri is verrrrry difficult. Also, I have several friends who worked a charity thing quite a few times w Scott Baio and his wife, and they LOVE them. I haven't personally ever had any type of interaction, buy they all few strongly about the guy.
ReplyDeleteI should have added that holding onto a grudge that long is ridiculous - I mean to let it affect one's life. Anyone who's ever spent anytime in a workplace....well, you know. The people at the party were very rude, but would she really have wanted to spend time with them (considering the way they turned out)? She would have been totally miserable. Anyhow, as they say, when one door closes ....
