ReplyDeleteThis blind doesn't make sense. A California Medical Marijuana Card is easy as pie to get. All it takes is a couple of minutes worth of "interview" with a weed doctor. You tell the doc you have a little trouble sleeping, weed helps with that, and boom you've got the card. From then on you can walk down Santa Monica Blvd sucking on a blunt if you're so inclined. You can drive around with just under 6 ounces in your car. You can grow half a dozen plants in your front yard (they'll get stolen though). With the easy to get card all your weed problems just go away. This blind is stupid bs ... and I want to live in California.

ReplyDeleteIn Canada, the debate on decriminalizing marijuana has been raging for years. Something like 80% of Canadians think it should be decriminalized, and cops don't even bother with it most of the time. More important things to focus on. ;)
ReplyDeleteMedical marijuana is easy to get in CA but the cops can still fuck with you for it. I know people who had cards but still got arrested. Most of those charges eventually got dropped once they got to court, but any arrest would still be bad PR and not worth it. A lot of other people are skeptical of formally becoming a patient because they don't want to end up of federal lists and shit
ReplyDeleteSame thing is bound to start happening all the time here in MA and it's complete bullsh*t. They passed the bill to allow the medical cards last year but most doctors won't even CONSIDER evaluating you for one (despite being the ones who have treated their patients long term for the very debilitating illnesses that would allow them to qualify) due to bias or fear of persecution, and just about every town has fought tooth & nail to refuse to allow dispensaries to set up. I really don't see the point of having even allowed the vote on the ballot in the first place if they're just going to block patients & providers at every turn. The whole process has been very disappointing. CO has the right idea; just make it all or nothing! Clearly "in between" doesn't work.
Delete@harryknuckles you took the words out of my mouth, they give away weed cards like candy. You can google CA docs that give cards easily, there's a list. I remember 10 years ago when it was first legal HighTimes magazine had a list in the back of the magazine lol

ReplyDeleteYeah, cops never press charges they can't follow through on. You don't have to trust me, but it's happened. They can arrest you for possession, the DA just can't officially charge you for it.
DeleteAt this point now, DOJ has actually been cracking down on MMJ in CA big time as well. Pretty much all of the dispensaries in SD are closed, they've moved up into OC serving them as well. This makes getting safe access more difficult and endangers the delivery boys because they've become robbery targets since the official storefront dispensaries have been shut down and transformed into delivery services. CA's system is a fucking mess. Keep in mind that whenever the Feds raid these doctors offices or dispensaries, they take the patient records etc with them

Lady H and Harry are both correct. In SF they don't even bother if you have it on you because the courts and jails are so full. NOW if you're smoking and driving, that can be an issue of being under the influence. It does sound like she wanted a good excuse for a mountain retreat.

ReplyDeleteI had some neighbors move into the condo next door (renters). A young wealthy couple (wealthy as in daddy and mommy's money) in their first apartment after college. The DAY they moved in they lit up and they continued every single day after that for months. I wouldn't mind except our front doors are two feet apart at the end of a long hallway, and they were upwind of me so on a nice sunny day with my windows open my own home smelled like marijuana, and I had to wade through the stench in the hallway to get inside my place.
I did my research at that point and found that I basically had no legal recourse other than to lean on their landlord or the HOA.
The cops will not cite people for smoking here in SF. And having the cops come and knock on their door? Fuggedaboutit. The cops have no power to enter their homes even if they smell MJ and they also have no desire to. That comes from on high - they've been told not to arrest or cite people for smoking MJ.
So that director lady should just move to San Francisco, why go all the way to Colorado?
BTW they moved out. And now I can open my windows again.

ReplyDelete@Marina: Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, regardless of whether or not she has a doc rec in CA. If she is paranoid enough to get a place in CO, I'm guessing she is also too paranoid to register as a patient in CA. Some counties are more conservative than others, think SD vs SF for example, but the Feds can still fuck with patients in the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteI used to think decriminalization was the best way to go, but I think we need to push things farther. Criminal organizations will follow the money so long as there is money to make. As much as things have gotten better in WA and CO this past year, Seattle specifically has also had an unsettling rise in the presence of some major cartels operating there. While one can argue that that push to the north was inevitable anyways, as the MDTOs are expanding more towards Canada, it has made me think about things differently. I really think the whole free weed movement is onto something. Everyone should grow it and bring the value down.

ReplyDelete@Lady H, my problem with marijuana is that while I don't care AT ALL if other people put it in THEIR lungs, I don't want it in MINE.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredibly pungent, you can smell it two blocks away if you're down wind of it, and if it's legalized, I will have to smell it all day every day, wherever I go. Including my own home.
I find the smell of marijuana really unpleasant.
I tried it a few times, got REALLY high once (like, laughed hysterically for three hours straight which was a memorable and most enjoyable evening). Then I had a bad trip - smoked from a bong, they kept telling me I was doing it wrong, but I was getting pretty full lungfuls each time ... all of a sudden my knees buckled, I felt like throwing up, that feeling passed, but it was replaced with this nightmarish effect where I felt like I was watching a slide show at an extremely rapid speed. It lasted for hours.
I have never tried it since except for some hash pound cake in an Amsterdam restaurant that was dry and tasteless, and it had no effect on me.
And then ... I developed this real dislike of, and sensitivity to, the odor.
I should think just as with cigarette smoke, it should be legal to smoke it but not to force other people to interact with your nasty habit. And by "your" I don't mean you, Lady Heisenberg, I mean those who partake.
This is a huge quality of life issue for me. I'm already dealing with having to smell marijuana several times a day. I dread having to smell it even more often.
