#1 - This foreign born A list female singer is huge worldwide. One secret that she has tried to keep is that she had a baby when she was younger. A member of the family raises the baby and pretends the baby is theirs. Our singer was barely of age and she got pregnant by her then married record producer.

ReplyDeleteRene was married when he first became her manager. He produced her first record with Eddy Marnay, who was old enough to have written songs for Edith Piaf. Celine named one of her twins after Marney, so I'm assuming the teenage Celine's baby-daddy is 26-years-older-than-her Rene.

ReplyDeleteIn large Quebec families, if a baby born on the wrong side of the blanket, it would make sense for it to be adopted into the family and raised by a relative. I wouldn't have been the one who had to tell Mama Dion. The politics relaxed 1958 after Vatican II, but it would still have been scandalous - to become pregnant at such a young age by a city man. It explains why Celine has kept her family unusually close to her. I don't think lying would come naturally to her. She would have kept the secret for the sake of the child.

DeleteYes. In high school a girl I went to school with went away on a year long " exchange " no one knew anything about. Then her mother had a baby passed off as her own. So the mother raised own grandchild. They didn't really fool anyone tho

ReplyDeleteWhoa! . The age of consent in Canada was 14 in the 1980s, although according to Wiki, older men were prohibited from seducing girls barely older than that. So guessing she was about 16, the boy would be nearly 30.
ReplyDeleteIf it was René's kid, they theoretically could have "adopted" him when he was still comparatively young, as they got together in 1987 (unique circumstances aside). So for that reason the David Foster idea is interesting. Of course it suited them to have her concentrate on her career.
@AIP If David Foster were the father, and Celine, the mother, that might produce a remarkably talented child.

ReplyDeleteThis is an old rumour. Apparently her sister has raised the child as her own. Well, the kid must be an adult by now. I wonder if he knows the truth or does he just get extra nice presents at Christmas and birthdays?
ReplyDeleteWasn't that the kid that died? Celine was EXTREMELY close to one of her nieces who had a rare form of cancer and died. At the time, I was really surprised by how much energy she spent on this niece considering how many siblings she had with so many nieces and nephews.

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a shock to read the reveal for a Canadian. Rene with his magical annulment, just prior to their wedding was very married when he met her so young. I know several people who figured she played up the IVF issues as a way to distance herself from this rumour. Off the top of my head, every Quebecois I know has talked about this in a matter of fact way.

ReplyDeleteWonder if the producer was Pierre Bazinet or David Foster? Age of consent here in Canada used to be 14 and was at that time, so she must have been around that age. Since then, it's been raised to 16, but the opposition made sure there was a stipulation to not criminalize teens having relationships with teens. Like if your 16 and your boyfriend is 14/15, that's okay.
I remember reading about Loretta Young going away for a year, she got pregnant by Clark Gable when they had a brief affair on a movie set. She had the baby (a girl), left her with somebody I believe in Europe until she was about 18 months old and then "adopted" her, can't remember but I think she did it as a single mom.
ReplyDeleteThe girl didn't know she was her biological child and didn't know that Clark Gable was her father until she was I think in her late teens and maybe some friends whose families were in the industry told her. But her mother didn't until she confronted her on her deathbed.
She met Clark Gable when he came over to the house once when she was a young teenager. He was friendly but didn't tell her he was her father.
Apparently she had his big ears that stuck out a lot, I think her mother had them pinned or whatever they did in those days.
I'm writing ALL of this from memory - but it's only a few google clicks away if you want to verify the details.
