Today's Blind Items - He Doesn't Want People To Know
Yesterday I was talking about Ryan Lewis and his HIV+ mom and the person I was speaking to said that some other people were approached to be a part of the project but turned them down. One of those people who turned down the invitation is an A+ lister. Pretty much at everything he does. He was asked because one of the people on the project also knows that this A+ lister is HIV+ and thought he might want to help spread the word and be involved because of his status. Apparently that was not the best thing to ask our A+ lister who has told very few people. The count is on one hand and even his wife didn't find out until they had been dating for almost a year. Our A+ lister is extremely careful who he tells so he was really upset that one of the few people he told then told others about his status and now feels that even more people will find out. That will probably be the case because I didn't know until I heard it from this group. In one way it is kind of shocking, but not another when you think about the lifestyle he used to live.

ReplyDeleteWell only other celebrities I know who are Positive but quiet on the matter are Jean Claude Van Damme he went through a trannie hooker phase and Clive Barker who was outed after he got his lover sick. Other than those two everyone else knows about.

ReplyDeleteOnly thing is they just had a child now I know there have been stories where one or both parents are Positive but the baby is not and I believe for a costly price you can pay to have your child born negative if you are Positive but don't quote me on that.
It's only a 25% chance the baby gets it without treatment and down to 2% if you do get treatment.

Deletefor some reason, the name justin timberlake came to mind. i dont think he would fit with the last sentence, unless it is referring to the partying/crazy stuff that britney is rumored to have done. in general, this makes me uncomfortable and id rather that person make their own privacy decisions about revealing their status.

ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that it's his private business, education and visibility are clearly needed. My best friend is positive, and I went through the whole traumatic diagnosis with her.
ReplyDeleteAnd guess what? Today she is as healthy or healthier than any of us. Her viral count is barely detectable, and she hasn't needed a med yet. (It's been five years.) She has to be careful about being around really sick, highly contagious people, but that's nothing that changed her life because she's asthmatic and had to do that anyway.
What has been the worst is the shame and stigma, no contest. She was never a prostitute or IV drug user; she got it from the boyfriend she has lived with for a decade when HE cheated. But she still thinks people would judge her, and she's probably right. Mad props to Ryan Lewis for taking this on, and I hope the A lister contributed financially, as that could be done anonymously I'm sure.

ReplyDeleteNot saying outing is okay, it's not. But a perspective from another viewpoint. My son, hetero, non-drug user, died of AIDS at 39, three weeks before his 40th birthday. We had no idea. From diagnosis, when he went into the hospital with pneumonia, until his death, was a whole 6 weeks. He got it from his ex-wife, while they were married, and didn't know it because she slept with someone who had it, which he didn't know about at the time. She's a carrier, and never showed symptoms. He only had sex with her, while they were married, so we had NO reason to think he was HIV. So while outing isn't good, this is one secret that kills.

ReplyDeleteWhat Ryan Lewis is doing is wonderful, his mother is very brave for sharing her story and helping to take the stigma away from the disease. That being said, the fact that someone wants to keep something medical related a secret is not juicy its reasonable and he has every right to be mad at someone for sharing his personal secret. So bottom line this isn't a blind.

She's in her 40's professional, educated, attractive, thin, no kids, owns her home, 3 cars, no crazy ex's, and on the third date when she tells them--they leave skids. Or tell her she's "disappointing" or worse. She has to only date from a herpies dating site. No one ever tells her "that took a lot of courage, thank you for giving me the choice you never had".

ReplyDeletethe vast majority of blinds are of a very personal and private nature for the individuals involved, and you all have no problem guessing at them. i don't see a health issue being any different. most of you probably wouldn't think twice about making a guess on who has herpes, so why is hiv+ any different?
and if enty got his information from hearsay, it's not against the law to write a blind item about it. it's not like he had access to the individual's medical records.

MontanaMarriott, you have been around forever, so I am taking notice @ Clive Owen being HIV positive, vs some name that I've never seen before. Van Damme, I have heard many rumors about him and Britney, but never my beloved Clive!! HIV can be deceiving these days. In the 80's, it was normally all too obvious, and then by the time Magic Johnson revealed that he was, it was no longer an immediate death sentence.

Whoever it is I hope they aren't being irresponsible. Also, look at all the admiration and good works that Magic Johnson has provided by being open with the public. It's understandable, and absolutely within this persons rights, to stay private. However, they are in a great position (unlike everyday people) to shed the stereotype and shine a light on the benefits that research, advances in medication, and the early pioneers that raised funding and awareness to ensure this issue was front and center years ago, such as Elizabeth Taylor.

For those that were wondering about the HIV status of a child, if the father is positive but the mother is not, the child will be born without the virus since in utero infection occurs when the fetus and an HIV+ mother share the same blood supply and the fetus is born with the virus already in its bloodstream.

ReplyDeleteHi - to the poster who said we are outing people with AIDS. Being HIV+ does not mean you have AIDS. It means the virus that causes AIDS has been found in your blood. Hence the talk of viral loads and counts. With early treatment, a healthy lifestyle and drug therapy people can get to undetecable or low viral load and live long healthy lives.
ReplyDeleteI knew a guy who committed suicide right after finding out he was HIV+. He was an incredibly talented artist, able to support himself as a working artist, as well as a very talented musician. He'd just gotten clean and was getting his life back together. It destroyed him. This, like someone said above, is dangerous territory to tread in.

ReplyDeleteEveryone else is completely entitled to guess all they like. No shade from me. And I don't always guess the blinds(usually wrong) but I do comment with other posters. I don't however, give them a hard time for what they say or chose not to say or if they don't feel comfortable guessing. And I don't think they're acting self righteous if they opt out. It's a choice they've made for themselves.

Not saying female to male transmission is impossible in the western world, but it like hardly ever happens.
And who needs to pay a lot of money to have a negative baby? it's called taking your meds and taking care of yourself and having an undetectable viral load people. HIV negative babies aren't only for he HIV positive and wealthy.
