This former B+ list mostly television actress who is always looking to make a buck was in a restaurant last week trashing this still A+ list super model and the model's current project which paid the actress a lot of money. The actress called the product shi**y and said the model was the dumbest person she has ever met and that she laughs when she thinks about how much she is paid.

ReplyDeleteHoward Stern told a story on air they were in a car filming a commercial for AGT and Heidi was driving and it had just rained.
She thought it would be 'funny' to drive into puddles fast to get normal people walking on the sidewalk wet. Howard was horrified by that and told her you don't treat people like that. And told her not to do that.
So she is a real gem herself.
For a dummy Heidi has done very well. I liked Eva on DH, but that's been over for a while now. All she seems to do is stroll red carpets. Maybe she should stick with her charity work and forget about Hollywood.

DeleteI don't know Eva and I can't personally speak to her intelligence (or lack thereof), but I don't get why people feel the need to make fun of her for further pursuing her education. Disciplines like Chicano studies etc may be undervalued, but I think it's insensitive to suggest that their contributions or degrees are worthless. A lot of people in Southern California would beg to differ, and this field has been especially important for theorizing and research on immigration, education, policy, social movements and assimilation processes.
ReplyDeleteSure, Eva doesn't "need" that degree like other American women do, but so fucking what? It's not like it was an honorary degree. As Reno pointed out, homegirl DID earn it.
This post has actually inspired me to track down Eva's thesis. I have a decent grasp on that literature, and I actually know several scholars who study exactly what her topic is on. When I have more time next month, I can report back on it if anyone gives a shit. But two notes I want to make here:
(1) Eva in particular getting this degree may not mean shit for her life and future, but for women, having a MA has significant influences on economic and occupational outcomes. This is especially true for black and Latina women. I think it's inherently good for Eva to spend her time on this, if not for herself, than to be a role model for others. How many of the self-made billionaires without a formal education are Latina women? True, success is not as tied to formal education and titles as we like to think, but certain demographic groups can leverage greater gains from it than others.
(2) Eva's thesis is about the lack of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) with an emphasis on how to better incorporate and retain Latina scholars in those fields. Pretty much every discipline within the social sciences now views STEM as the so-called "final frontier" of gender inequality. In the past few years, it has actually been the gender-related topic to generate the most funding across the social sciences. All of the grants out there have been allllllllll about that shiz lately.
Feel free to disagree with me, that's cool. I totally get where everyone is coming from that doesn't really see it the way that I do, but I just figured I would throw in my two (million) cents.
