Shocker! Guys From One Direction Smoke Pot

I'm not saying that Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson should have let themselves be caught on video smoking a joint, but to think that they don't smoke pot or never have tried pot seems a bit unrealistic. The Daily Mail has a video of the pair smoking a joint and you would think the world ended for fans of the group. Fans have been posting videos of themselves burning tickets to shows in protest. Umm, what they should have done if they didn't want to go is sell them for a few extra bucks to the people who don't really care. The video shows the pair smoking pot in the back of a van in Peru. Again, probably not the best decision to do this in a country not their own without knowing what would happen to them if they got busted. They also taunted a police officer who was following the van, which again, is not the best idea.

  2. I'm clutching my pearls in horror at young men smoking marijuana.

Taunting police officers, though... maybe they got the bad stuff that makes you a paranoid jerk.

  3. should've gone to uruguay.

why is pot so bad? would they rather see their boy band taking shots, stumbling around, smoking cigarettes?

  4. These kids' careers are going to flame out in a boring box of boring, so I'm guessing this is their Hail Mary pass before riding off into the OTown sunset.

    1. Honey it's still too soon to talk about OTown...

    2. All I think about OTown is that Lou Pearlman probably molested and/or coerced them into sex

    3. Yeah they have Simon who won't lay a finger on their arses. Not his type. Lucky them.

  5. I remember being a young teen and believing that my heroes were pure as the driven snow. Realising that's not the case is a pretty good life lesson. It's sort of like realising that Father Christmas isn't real.
God bless all those traumatised tweenies.

  8. and does her really have to be wearing a Bob Marley shirt during this whole process? I guess he never got to experience freshman year of college....dork...

  9. Really, what's the big deal? Let's decriminalize pot and get it over with. Of course this is Peru so our laws won't affect that. The dick head move was with the cop. Otherwise, as you were.

  10. Directioners apparently started cutting themselves to get the boys not to smoke pot. I don't understand their logic at all. Pot isn't even that big a deal anymore it's not like they were snorting cocaine off hookers like Bieber.

  11. I have no issues with the pot, but it is stupid to do it in foreign countries. As much as I enjoy it, I decline all offers when travelling. Last thing I want is to be locked up in a mexican or thai jail for getting high.

  12. I realized my teenage dreams were human when Jonathan Brandis killed himself. Oh and Brad Renfro overdosed on heroin. But Brandis was the first and that still stings.

Anyway these teens be foolish. Weed is nothing to riot over, and way better than alcohol. You don't hear about raging stoners who beat their spouses and date rape people.

And if you're that broken up over someone you do not know showing themselves to be not quite perfect, you've got some issues. Maybe these teens should give the movie "May" a watch and learn something about themselves.

Same here. Brandis & River Phoenix were huge crushes for me as a kid. River's death was my 1st celebrity crush death but Brandis hit me just as hard. I think more so bc it was by suicide rather than an accidental OD. His death was so deliberate and crushing.

He was so talented and burned so bright. I always wonder what could have been with River. He was supposed to be in Interview With A Vampire. Christian Slater stepped in but I always wondered how about what could have been with River in the roll.
Sad. So much talent gone too soon. All my favorite teen crushes are dead. River, Brandon & Heath.

  13. I remember being horrified when my high school boyfriend told me that he had smoked pot. Fast forward a few years after I discovered it and learned how awesome it was.

We definitely don't want young kids lighting up joints but like everyone else is saying, this is nothing compared to the shit that Beiber gets into.

  14. I honestly hope that in my lifetime, I see the day where people calm their tits over people smoking weed.

  15. If these are devastated tweenies they do not have "issues". We were all naive once - it just a normal part of life when you figure out how it really works and even here we get surprised ourselves what some celebrities are up to and capable of especially if they are favourites of ours.

The entertainment industry and some artists themselves goes out of their way to perpetuate those goody goody images because they know it is good for business. Unless they are working the bad boy image and half the time you wonder if the bad boy is even a bad boy? Yes nothing is as it seems in the world of celebrity.

I mean how many adults still buy into the Cinderella fairy tale.

    1. @Tina First, I acknowledge that I definitely should have worded that better and avoided the generic (and potentially hurtful) phrase "got issues." Thanks for pointing that out.

To clarify: I find the cult-mentality of teen pop fans to be fascinating. And mildly terrifying. This is so different than anything I grew up with (32 for what it's worth) because our social media was structured differently. Now fans can both stalk their celebrities and have the chance to interact directly with them or with other fans. And it's created this interesting and disfunctional co-dependent relationship between the band and their fans and also between the fans themselves.

I've seen fans of 1D or the Biebs take down someone with an opposing viewpoint like the rolling ball of critters. You say one thing on twitter which one person doesn't agree with and suddenly thousands of "fans" are harassing and bullying and attacking you and it's just ridiculous. It reminds me of the Dr Who mars episode only on a larger scale.

Anyway this not a protest, this is about obsessive control. The boys didn't post that video, they aren't proclaiming their love of drugs and debauchery on national tv. There is nothing for these "fans" to protest. What they are protesting is that these people behaved in a way they do not approve of, they are letting their displeasure be public and displaying their punishment of the boys to re exert control over them. "Behave as I dictate or I will punish you." Control, abuse, obsession. Yes this is a silly little episode but there's a whole lot of analysis that can be made from it.

The psychology of modern media is fascinating.

But again, my apologies if my callous and lazy sentence of "they have issues" was offensive or hurtful to anyone.

  17. As a teenager, I remember writing an extremely meaningful poem after discovering something was up (can't remember what it was) with my idol of the moment, the lead singer of Cheap Trick.

Don't teenage girls write extremely meaningful poems any more? Is cutting the preferred form of self-expression?

  21. Derek, word. These guys aren't the second coming of the Beatles. Autotoned mediocre vocalists finishing second on a boring reality show won't exactly take the Beatles' crown away.

  22. Omg.... These teen fans burning their tickets probably still believe these guys are still virgins and have the high hopes that one day they will marry their favorite 1D'er.

  23. Please, this is no different to rihanna or miley or that whiz fool...they go to great lengths to let us know how cool and edgy they are because they smoke pot. They are all just total try hards !
