Standard Hotel Fires Video Leaker

The Standard Hotel in NYC announced yesterday they identified the person who leaked the Solange Knowles and Jay-Z fight and have fired the individual. The official statement from the hotel said in part that the person, who was not named was fired for "breaching the security polices of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video." It wasn't too hard to find the person. The pool of suspects was probably limited and when the employee started making it rain with dollar bills everywhere they walked, the hotel put two and two together and fired them. I'm guessing it was probably not a very high paying job so the $250K they received from TMZ probably will keep them going for a bit. The hotel says they will try and prosecute the offender criminally, but I don't know how much luck they will have or if the penalty would be that severe. The person probably won't be getting a good recommendation from the hotel, but the entire gossip reading world is happy they did it.

  1. Did they really get 250k? Wow. I need to find some celeb video footage to leak.

  2. From all acounts he/she got 250k and now isn't named. I would say they are going to have one hell of a party this weekend.

  3. I'd say that individual would say getting the sack was somewhat worth it, eh??

    ReplyDelete
  4. That's what TMZ is said tohave paid, Voilet. Then again since they 'weren't named' who knows how true this is. Could just be the hotel trying to save face instead of admitting their camera security sucks balls.

  6. Oh man that's a nice chunk of cash, I bet it was almost worth losing a Howell job where you watch security tapes all day.

    4. That dress was a peach perfection. It only needed bigger sleeves and basement baby needed a side ponytail.

  9. I guess (if it's true and the person was located and fired) the worst case scenario would be that they can't put the hotel on their resume.
Not being named makes me suspicious, though. I would think the hotel would quickly do that and burn them at the stake. Still thinking they didn't find out who did it.

  10. Yeah, that dress was pretty awful. Beyonce's was only one step up, though.

  11. What shocks me is how much TMZ pays! That's a lot of coin for a video (though I did read somewhere, that it was being shopped around for about five days).

  13. I hope they remember to pay the taxes on that. Crazy Cabbie did a year in Federal Prison for not paying the taxes on the $100k he got for his fight with Stuttering John.

  14. I love this picture. I think it says it all. Solange looks pissed. Jay looks like he is nursing a boo boo on his lip or something, and Beyonce has this bizarre smile on her face.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The other picture I saw was quite similar to this one, but it had Jay holding his hand to his cheek and that wtf just happened face.

  16. I like Solange but the dress she was wearing that night was AWFUL. I would be on one too if I was stuck wearing that....

  17. Wonder how you put that on your tax form, "Sold camera footage to TMZ." Is that like a drug dealer trying to file a tax return?

    1. They'll get a 1099R from TMZ and never have to say what it was actually for.

  18. @Ray

That was the cause of the fight. Jay was the one who insisted she wear it.

  19. Or there's a camera in the camera room that they checked to see who recorded it. Drr.

  20. It is employee theft, the person stole hotel property (the video footage).

But there is absolutely nothing to gain by charging the person, except to send a message to other staff that the behavior is unacceptable.

And no doubt the Bey-Jay PR machine would prefer it just be dropped.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Seriously who gives a flying fuck.

Personally I think anything you do outside the confines of your home becomes 'public property' meaning your bs behavior may be on video. Privacy laws be damned. People are so funny thinking they have choices when it comes to privacy laws. You don't. Its all a fuckin fallacy and everything you do and say or type is being recorded, archived, filed. Its the price you pay to be 'plugged in'. The alternative is to get rid of anything electronics, move into the mountains or somewhere without wifi and out of satellite range and live off the land, hunting and scavenging for food. If you're not willing to do that then stfu and deal with it. There is no privacy. This is our new fucked up brave new world reality. Good on the dude for getting 250k for thatclusterfuck shituation.

  22. Btw, the story has changed again, "anon sources" are now saying Jay-Z was getting too close with Rachel Roy at the party, and Solange knows that upsets Bey and that's what started it all. LOL

    It's entertaining BS at least.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hope the leaker pays the taxes on the 250, don't eff with the IRS.

Good luck suing this person though. Which is too bad, though, because there's a bigger issue under the gossip bonanza here. Part of the deal of accepting the presence of security cameras everywhere is the idea that access will not be abused - and that's not just a concern for celebrities. The idea that your every movement is recorded, the moment you step out your door, to be held up for possible inspection is just odious.

    ReplyDelete
  36. There will never be a prosecution because Jay/Bey/Sol would have to testify under oath and be subject to cross examination about their relationships, sexual history etc.
As for the $250K, remember it may have gone primarily to an intermediary rather than the actual hotel employee. I doubt security guards know how to conduct an auction amongst media outlets.

  53. I'm wondering if this elevator drama was all a stunt by Killer and Bey to begin setting up for the split. They don't have a real marriage, it's some sort of business arrangement, (maybe not unlike Cruise and Homes/Kidman/Rogers) and perhaps the termination date is approaching and one or both of them doesn't care to re-up. This way Bey gets to leave as the betrayed wife ... the hetero betrayed wife.

Telling people they should scroll by comments and not make bitchy comments on a read/comment site is stupid. It's particularly stupid when the people saying it are the same people who are not scrolling by any comments and are making bitchy comments themselves.

Anyone else heard anything about her removing her ring finger tattoo?

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Seven of Eleven, I don't think Hez ever got banned anywhere, but honestly it's been so long I can't keep it all straight. Hez was here at the beginning and she was a frequent commenter. I'm pretty sure she and the real Enty were friends. Then the Hate Brigade (whoever they are) showed up in full force, it was really bad. They gave Hez so much hell she eventually left. She put up with quite a bit of abuse before she finally left.

p.s. if you were a Hez supporter, you were known as a "Hezbian"..that one still cracks me up!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wendy Williams is all over this thing about Beyonce removing the tattoo from her ring finger. Personally I don't think Beyonce is going anywhere. Mr. Carter told her that her Dad was stealing from her and proved it. That's what is reported to have led to Beyonce firing him as her manager. That breeds loyalty.

It's being reported in NYC that the leaker is a woman and that she had trouble getting paid for her images. Personally I think $250k for that kind of material is chump change. Half a million would've been my price. Could it be no one wanted to touch it because of Mr. Carter's reputation? Who wants a minion sidling up to you out of the blue (no pun intended with a message from their boss?

It's also being reported that the video was transferred or made with her cell phone? I'm not that tech savvy so I don't understand that at all.

Still I'm with those who think the Hotel is covering its ass. If the video is on someone's phone it's no longer Hotel property right?

That mealy mouthed statement that came out in the late afternoon East Coast time is not going to make this go away.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think the security person weighed up the pros and cons, spoke with their parents, pastor, and mentor, did some sums and thoughtfully came to the conclusion to enter into a mercantile decision making process. It's hard to find any sads to give Beyoncé etc.

Hassling @TTM is so over. Completely over.
