Blind Item #8

This permanent A+ list mostly movie actor is being honored with a big award this fall, but wants to make sure that it does not turn into a roast. Just a tribute. The guy hates when people make fun of him and he has threatened to not show up if he hears it will be a roast.

I'm feelin Travolta too (there's so much roasting material there, for heaven's Sake). Any idea of the award? I'm blanking on Fall awards shows

    2. Any lifetime achievement thing I'm sure. Those all role out in fall during awards season. No scio jokes. No massage jokes. No wigs jokes. No gay nanny jokes...no who's your wife screwing this week jokes..I can see his anxiety

I go with Hanks. He's pretty full of himself.

    1. Now I see Hanks as a jovial go ahead and laugh at me guy.

  6. I'm thinking Jack Nicholson...

  7. If Tommyboy is being referred to as permanent A+ list I'm gonna be mad. Every single movie he has been in for the last 5 years has completely bombed at the box office. He's a terrible actor and he has crazy eyes.

    1. But they're huge overseas

    2. I don't think you have to worry. Cruise is terribly out of fashion at the moment. Give him 5-10 years, some grey hair and some decent Magnolia-type roles and it will be time for the Cruise revival, Michael Caine style. At some point, he WILL get an Oscar. But not anytime soon.

    3. @Shark Week, Cruise is very big in China, Japan, Korea and Russia. Not so much in Europe any more. His latest flick, which got fantastic reviews but completely flopped in the U.S., set box-office records in Russia.

  8. Wow, I really hate to hear Hanks is full of himself. He seems like such a nice guy :-/

  9. Eastwood. Dont think he likes stuff.

  10. I thought Nicholson, but he seems to have a pretty good sense of humor, as do Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino.

I think this is meant about someone older than Tom Cruise.

  11. Harrison Ford seems very humorless to me.

  12. Richard Dreyfuss? But he hasn't really done anything in a while.

  13. Methinks perhaps they should just grow a set and learn to take a little teasing. FFS I've been made fun of for years. I've lived.

  14. I agree with the Tom Cruise guess. Dude has no sense of humor about himself whatsoever.

  15. I was thinking Tammy as well and then Alice pops up with Harry. He was funny on Kimmel (was that the one where he had Star Wars characters asking questions?) . But yeah I can see him being a cranky old bastard.

  16. @Sugar, I've got to disagree with you about Cruise having no sense of humor about himself. The whole first 20 minutes of Edge of Tomorrow is a piss-take of the Tom Cruise flawless-man-of-action persona. The character is a lazy creep.

Not to mention the Tropic Thunder character - Lev Grossman? - and Stacie Jaxx, the Axl Rose-inspired heavy metal singer in Rock of Ages.

I still maintain that in 2014, nobody wants to give Tom Cruise an award for anything.

    1. Lev Grossman was divine, you are correct about that! I think he does have a sense of humor sometimes with his movie characters yet still takes himself way to seriously as a person.

  17. Clooney? He IS going to run for office and maybe doesn't want anyone tarnishing his post wedding image?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Les Grossman, not Lev, lol. And yes, that fat asshole sure could bust a move! Great character.

I keep thinking this is someone in Pacino/DeNiro's age range and class, or older.

  19. Now I'm wondering what type of award show would roast someone they are honoring. I know hosts sometimes make jokes about actors and actresses during the show but when they are 'honoring' someone don't they usually take it pretty seriously?

    1. OT. But is VIP blonde still around?? :/

  20. Tommy Lee Jones? He's had a long career, may not have won any Oscars but can definitely open a film and is easily recognizable and well known...and face it, chewing gum has more of a sense of humor than this man.

  21. I've seen Hanks get teased at awards and he takes it OK. Tom Cruise knows enough about human emotions to appear to take it well. I say Bruce Willis

  22. Matthew McConaughey is receiving the American Cinematheque Award in October. It's him. He's probably fed up with Matt Damon impressions and naked bongo player jokes.

  23. I'm on the TLJ or Ford train.

  24. I think Sadie has it. MMc

  25. George Clooney, seems to be very thin-skinned.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah MM seems easygoing but I could see this as him

    He's sensitive :)

  27. Harrison Ford.

Nicholson's already been roasted, toasted and skewered.

Clooney/Bale - too early yet for them. They still have their teeth.

  28. Matthew McConaughey and his no shirtless jokes? Because he will receive an award for his whole career in autumn
Bale refused a star in the spanish wall of fame last year ( it did a mini-scandal in Spain)

Matt damon yet had the award of Cinematheque 2 years ago

    Matthew McC in October

  32. Can totally see it being Ford.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What about DeNiro? he seems like the kind of guy who would get pissed over a joke about his lazy acting over the last decade or so.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, it's definitely McConaughey. Before the Oscars, he was interviewed by Piers Morgan who started off by asking him about the naked bongo incident. I think they edited the interview, cause it was pretty obvious McC stopped the interview and walked away. How many shirtless jokes can one man take?

  35. Richard Gere or Tommy C for the win. Precious little boys. Oy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't think Pacino minds the ribbing.

And Tom Hanks is nice as far as I know.

  38. is it sad that I automatically rated Jonah Hill as A list? Cause I can see him for this one…comedy central had a roast for James Franco and all the guys who spoke did was to make fun of Jonah and his ego.
I used to love him (he's still my favorite part in 40 year Old Virgin)

but he takes him self waaaaay to seriously and desperate to be in the cool crowd.
