Mr. X Blind Items Part Five

9) Old Hollywood: Which A+ list leading lady who easily transitioned from movies to TV once screamed at an interviewer "GET THE F**K OUT OF MY HOUSE!!" after he asked her if she was lesbian? She did swing both ways, according to friends and costars.
10) Old Hollywood: Which A/B-list actress and sex symbol was part African-American, which she didn't tell any of her husbands and lovers?
11) Old Hollywood: Which almost A-list actor who is more famous nowadays for his premature death literally stalked out this A++ list Oscar winning/nominated actor so he could say he slept with him? The latter actor didn't have any good things to say about it, however.

    2. Yep. They were both in Giant together.
Btw--am I the only one who always forgets that Liz Taylor was in that movie?

    3. THaT is quite the duo! I still swoon when I see Rock Hudson, le sigh. James Dean, notsomuch. He looks too much like Franco.

  2. What is Old Hollywood to Mr X?
As an actual old person, context is important.
    1930s vs 1970s.

  7. A+ list leading ladies couldn't have transitioned to TV before the late 50s, early 60s, so how about "Mid-Hollywood"?

  8. She always gave me lesbian vibes

  14. #1 - Katherine Hepburn

  15. Rock Hudson wasn't "almost" anything. He was A++ and will ever be thus. Opened and carried multiple films for multiple decades.
#9) I'm not sure if Mr X would consider Lucille Ball an A+ leading lady. She wasn't really. She could have been, but wasn't known to be able to open or carry a film on her own prior to her television career.
It fits Eve Arden for sure, except for the A+ rating. She was the perpetual sidekick, never A+.
I'm so over this X creature if he's screwing with Old Hollywood ratings.
    Don't be blasphemous, upstart.

  16. 9 - Barbara Stanwyck
    10- ?
    11- James Dean

    ReplyDelete
  17. #11 - Definitely James Dean/Rock Hudson or Cary Grant.

    ReplyDelete
  18. #9 I read as Stanwick
#11 I read as James Dean and Rock Hudson (Giant)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Merle was Indian. And yes, she hid that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. STANWYCK! Yay, @Flora!
I have no idea if you're right, but she fits every criteria.
    Loved that bitch.
Her earliest stuff is TO DIE.

  21. James Dean and Errol Flynn or James and Clark Gable?

    ReplyDelete
  22. 9 is definitely Stanwyck. She had an on/off affair with Joan Crawford for years. Joan was fairly unsentimental and the only two photographs she had in her house when she died were of Barbara and JFK.

    ReplyDelete

    1. And either Gene Tierney or Jane Russell for 10, just to mix it up a bit.

  23. @Procrastibator I like the James Dean/Errol Flynn thing for purely salacious reasons.

  25. @ fsp. It was common knowledge that dandridge was black. She was in a buttload of black movies and visually you could tell also.

  26. 9: Agnes Moorhead

    10: Merle Oberon

11: Rock Hudson/James Dean or Montgomery Clift with Cary Grant????

    ReplyDelete
  27. Merle Oberon isn't the answer to 10: she was born in India to an English father and Indian mother. However I can't help adding the story that, when she and her darker skinned mother came to Holloywood, Merle insisted that her mother pose as her maid.

  28. Good bis enty. Mr x gets kudos on these. I read something online that may fit number 10 but I would have to dig to find it again. Perhaps I will later...

    11. I like the james dean guess for 11.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dinah Shore & Ava Gardner are both good guesses for #10.

Merle Oberon's mother was from Mumbai (India)

    ReplyDelete
  30. 10 is carol channing I think.

    ReplyDelete
  31. #3 Sal Mineo for the almost A premature death.

Rock and Dean were and will always be A+++.

    ReplyDelete
  32. forgot about Carol Channing. there have been rumors about her for years.

    ReplyDelete
  33. On retrospect, dinah shore is good guess for 2. I forgot merle was Indian.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. Barbara Stanwyck
    2. Ava Gardner
    3. Rock Hudson and Brando.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh Riven, not Madeline. I loved her! Have you ever seen Happy Birthday, Gemini??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Wen that's why I guessed her! She is my fav everything and I love all of her work. Girls these days grow up admiring Selena fucking Gomez which is a travesty. Madeline was not only classy and feisty, she was hilarious and could actually act, dance AND sing.

      That lady had gumption.

I would have responded the same way to the question, it's incredibly misogynistic and insulting. Especially back in the day, women were only seen as arm candy and baby makers.

      Oh wait. That's still current.

  36. Loretta Young
    Ava Gardner
    Sal Mineo

    ReplyDelete
  37. Maybe Ramon Novarro for 11 too. More famous for his death bc of Hollywood Babylon.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hepburn for the the one who cursed out the reporter. I could absolutely see her doing this.

  42. 9) Barbara Stanwyck.
    10) Joan Crawford - Ava Gardner was part Native American Indian - my mother was a friend of hers and I grew up with her so I know a bit about Ava's life.
    11) James Dean and Montgomery Clift

  44. Ava Gardner for number 10. There's long been rumors about her.

  48. 9. Doris Day
    10. Ava Gardner
    11. James Dean and Rock Hudson

  49. Changing #9 to match Galleon's guess. I think Barbara and Joan had something going on.

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's not a rumor about Carol Channing. She has written and talked about her grandmother being an African American. I don't think 10 is CC.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm swooning at the thought of James Dean and Errol Flynn...

    ReplyDelete
  52. 9) Barbara Stanwyck
    10) Ava Gardner or Dinah Shore
    11) Rock Hudson

    ReplyDelete
  53. Maybe James Dean was too big even at the time to be "almost" A-list, hmm. Clift was probably A list then too, though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Glitter.. true but she did it when she was in her 80s /90s. Not sure how old she is/was but she was well advanced in age. The info I read on her also said there hasd been family secrets regarding african lineage but there were questions about whether her parent was being honest about her family's lineage. She was also married twice and it indicated she never told her spouses. Carol channing is a good fit for 10 imho.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 9 Stanwyck
    10 Dinah Shore
11 James Dean and Brando. According to La Liz, Dean and Hudson never got along. Rock considered him unprofessional and hated him. I can also see Dean going after Clift.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Like ava Gardner for 10

    ReplyDelete
  57. Clift supposedly had trouble getting it up because of his drinking so he qualifies for both pre-mature death & having an encounter with the A++ actor who didn't sing high praises

    ReplyDelete
  58. 10 I agree with the Carol Channing guesses. She didn't find out until very recently (say within the last 15 years or so). Or at least she didn't talk about it until then

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Kno Won Uno I'm not Mr. X but my definition of Old Hollywood is anything pre-1960. That was the last time the actors and actresses were actual full threat entertainers. They could act, sing, dance, do drama, romance, comedy, adventure, everything.

The women were Bombshells and 95% of them blow away any of todays starlets in terms of looks and talent and even the gay men were manly men.

I was born in 1976 but everyone, including my parents say I was born decades too late.

  65. 9) is not a blind Item. It's Stanwyck and the journalist was Boze Hadleigh. Common knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Doris Day for the first one - huge movie star, then had her own TV show

    ReplyDelete
  68. 9. Joan Crawford
    10. Dinah Shore

    ReplyDelete
  69. 9. was Barbara Stanwyck. Boze Hadleigh in his book Hollywood Lesbians interviewed her about being a lesbian and, if I remember, she told him to get out of her house because he suggested her marriage to Robert Taylor was a sham. He kind of deserved it.

I never thought of Carol Channing as being a sex symbol but it does fit.

James Dean stalking Sir John Gielgud? I know he wasn't so nice in his stories about Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Dinah Shore for both 9 and 10.

    ReplyDelete
  71. 9 could also be Myrna Loy.
    10 no idea
11 is obviously Rock Hudson, with Cary Grant for the A++

    ReplyDelete
  72. 10 is Ava Gardener as it's been rumored that she was passing for ages.

Also Carole Channing was never a sex symbol and she wrote about her racial heritage in her book so this is hardly a secret.
