Apparently the people over at Warner Brothers thought that Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar would all show up for work yesterday even though none of them have a new contract. That didn't happen though and since none of them showed up for anything Big Bang related at Comic-Con, it probably shouldn't have come as a surprise. Yesterday was the first table read of the season. Jim, Johnny and Kaley are all negotiating together and want $1M per episode which is up from the $350K per episode they get right now. They also want some of that syndication money. I'm sure Ryan Sweeting would love for Kaley to get that raise too. You know, since they are already married. Simon and Kunal also want big raises but won't get anything close to $1M per episode. Blossom and Melissa Rauch previously signed new deals with big raises. Chuck Lorre said he wanted his cast to get crazy rich, but he also expected them to be at work. I wonder if he will kill them all off now and be replaced by Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher with Mila Kunis in Kaley's role. The show is not set to air until September 22, so they have some time.
Huh. This programme jumped the shark around season 4. I loved old, no emotion Sheldon.

This show sucks, but a lot of people in the world like shit, therefore it's giving the producers a lot of dough. It's up to the producers to measure the earnings or losings that they'll have in case it's cancelled or they get a raise.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it wasn't in my age range at the time but I've tried to watch it now at the age of 30 and I still don't see the big deal about 'Friends.' I can't understand it's popularity and it seemed to be a lot of repeat issues. Don't go and crucify me. Just being honest. I like BBT. Is it the best show in the whole wide world? No. But it's a lot better than the other crap I see being schlepped around.

Actors have a shelf life. Syndication isn't the same as reruns where you get residuals. It makes quite a few executives more than a million an epi so why shouldn't the actors get the same?
I know the average Joe cannot comprehend. It seems excessive and of course, it is to us. But it's also not fair to have your image beaming into millions of homes without being paid either.
It would be great to have H'wd writer or an insider weigh in here. I'm sure I'm wrong with some info on reruns vs syndication so correct me please.
I really like it too, I wouldn't be distraught if I missed an episode but will always watch if I'm home and it's on.

Some math whiz here needs to calculate the percentage ratio from what CBS makes off it to what they pay. Then it might make sense. Either way, the entertainment biz deals in crazy money. If it didn't most "actors" would get another job.

ReplyDeleteSherry, you're not alone. I actually enjoy it, but I'm kind of a geek. Some of the storylines have me eyerolling, but overall, it's light hearted fun and not as stupid as 2.5 guys - I was able to make it through 1.5 episodes of that and considered giving myself a medal.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz). He's a classically trained actor who has found his niche (Moist in Dr Horrible was brilliant!) and is making the most of it.
Supposedly they already have a share of the syndication but it is a small percent (I think 5%). Obviously they want more. However you should remember that many of these shows have negative cash flow during the production. Their existing salaries are more than a million an episode, plus lesser cast, plus guest stars , plus one to two hundred production staff, plus writers etc. The network never pays to cover these costs and international sales help greatly (but often tie up the money over the life of multi-year contracts) So the producers rely on the back end for profit. I'm not taking a position on whether they deserve more or how much, simply pointing out the producers position in trading off current deficit versus back end syndication.

While I agree they should get a raise and they do get syndication money put it in perspective people, everyone is replaceable!

ReplyDeleteBtw, I tried to watch this show last season when one of my faves, Bob Newhart, was on there. The whole show seemed to me to be silly at best, and not a good kind of silly either. I don't even remember much of it. But I know every line of the turkey episode of the Bob Newhart show (the 70s one w Suzanne Pleshette.) if you don't remember much about it afterwards, you're either high or it was a yawn.
Nobody on Earth deserves this kind of money. And if someone did, it certainly wouldn't be an actor.

DeleteI run a foodbank and it does seems obscene, but I remember kindness blind revels with actors donating or providing services to families or individuals in desperate need. A few years ago after BBT actors received a salary increase Johnny Galecki providing $200.00 walmart gift cards and transportation to people in a shelter.
ReplyDeleteWill Arnett and Amy Poehler donated on a yearly basis a large sum of money to the United Way of Winnipeg - Will Arnett's great-grandfather was one of the founders of the charitable organization. unfortunately no one famous comes from this small part of the world or I'd be dropping them a line reminding them to drop a tin in the bin and all donations over $20.00 are eligible for a tax receipt.
They better be careful or Chuck Lorre will replace them. Full House was a top 20 show with well over a 100 episodes, and ABC canned it due to cost. They never got a send off last episode.
