She's one of the most recognizable faces of classic Hollywood, but back when she was on the verge of A+ list stardom, she slept with many a producer to get a role. One of these casual encounters resulted in a surprise pregnancy, which she ended up terminating. That might explain why she couldn't have kids.

ReplyDeleteYea, that's been the rumor for years that she couldn't get pregnant while trying with Miller due to abortions when a model/starlet. Abortions weren't legal then, so who knows where she went to.

ReplyDeleteAbortions weren't legal, but there were doctors who would perform them anyway under the guise of a different procedure. My grandmother was a surgical nurse in Las Vegas in the 1940s and actresses and other women would come in for them. My grandmother was extremely pro-life so she refused to be in on those surgeries, but she knew what was going on.

ReplyDeleteShe was also a huge slob. She'd go days without bathing and would eat chicken wings in bed and just toss the bones under there when she was finished. In that regard I guess she and Lindsay are similar.

Nah, I think if Marilyn lived longer she would've ended up with Liza Minelli health issues. Marilyn's issues were alcohol, smoking & prescription drugs. Back then drinking & smoking were thought to be alright, women still would while pregnant, and you could smoke in hospitols. She trusted her doctors & took the pills they gave her.

ReplyDeleteIf you watch the many documentarys about Marilyn, I saw a new one on HBO, various actresses were reading from Marilyn's actual letters, she was not a dumb bunny, they all say she desperately wanted a child and her miscarriages were devastating.

ReplyDeleteShe was pregnant during Some Like It Hot and was happy to be in San Diego where she said the fresh air would be good for the baby. She went to Mexico for more than one of her abortions according to books I have read.

As well, her end may have been the same. Institutionalized while her child is raised by the foster system.
