This A list mostly movie actress not named Sandra Bullock is causing a lot of drama at an adoption agency. Apparently she was supposed to be in the final stages of adopting a child and only had to sign some forms but is having second thoughts. Maybe the new guy doesn't like kids.

Charlize is a well known bitch to everyone, regardless of the situation. Lainey has essentially outed her as such and also outed her coke habit. During the Toronto film festival several years ago, she showed up at a exclusive party in a jewelery store and was outside for several minutes on the red carpet getting her photo taken and she complained about the "paps" the entire time as being too intrusive. It was an effing red carpet at a world renowned film festival. She obviously got paid to be there or it was part of her promotion duties with the film she was repping at the festival. But seriously, STFU.

I am now thinking about that blind in which the famous mother adopted a kid, then hated parenting so much she gave the kid to the nanny permanently. (Did we ever find out who that was? I know everyone guessed Kristin Davis of SATC.)

Even if she's nasty, you've got to admire her spunk. Mother kills father while Charlize is in the house. At age 16, I want to say, she flies halfway around the world, speaking only Afrikaans (not exactly a global language) to be a model. Goes to L.A., learns PERFECT colloquial accentless American English from watching TV, gets movie roles, wins Oscar.

@Prunella...Few errors...She was accepted at a dance school in the US that is why she flew halfway around the world. The modeling only started after she failed at dancing school. All South Africans can speak English too. Most are bilingual or trilingual. She had a private tutor that taught her American english. It did not come from watching American tv. The rest is correct. She grew up rich so her mommy was able to pay for all her expenses and she didnt really have it rough the way the media likes to portray it. Her dad owned a successful transport company!

@ Lady H - I don't doubt the aspect that Penn was housed across the aisle from Ramirez. I question the story regarding Madonna visiting Penn and finding Ramirez attractive. Only from the standpoint that I cannot imagine a circumstance where Madonna would be let into the segregation wing to visit Penn. Penn would be brought out to the visiting room or to a high security room to speak with her with a thick glass partition between them.

Not from you, because I believe you are sincere in your telling of it. I think the original source is suspect.
BTW, the segregation wings are *nasty*. Seriously, cannot imagine one single circumstance where an outsider would be permitted entry... except paramedics.

ReplyDeleteRichard Ramirez was jailed on death row @ San Quentin until his death last year. There is zero possibility that Sean Penn ever went near death row. It is a separate area in the prison. I have "visited" death row and know this.
Just to clarify: Richard Ramirez was housed in the condemned section at San Quentin. Everyone in the condemned unit has been sentenced to death. There are no "adjacent" cells. It is an entirely separate section of the prison, subject to special requirements for death row inmates (for example, there is an extensive law library available to the condemned; also, they each have their own cells.
ReplyDeleteSean Penn was never sentenced to death, and there is zero possibility he ever went near death row. Likewise, Madonna would have never seen Ramirez. In fact, access to Ramirez was extremely limited, as he was volatile and behaved in a sexually inappropriate way.

It’s four concrete walls with an iron door, with a little wired Plexiglas window. So you can see each other. Ramirez and I had one thing in common: We’re both insomniacs. I’d look across at him and he’d look across at me.

PENN: Ramirez and I had to take showers at the same time a lot, because we were both high-priority inmates, because of our high profiles. There were threats on us both. Ramirez asked for my autograph once. I said, “I’ll give you mine if you’ll give me yours.” Paper passing is contraband, so he asked a guard and the guard figured he wanted to be the cupid in the situation. Actually, this guard was a decent guy. He brought over Ramirez’ autograph. It read, “Dear Sean: Stay tough and hit ‘em again. Richard Ramirez, 666.” It included a pentagram and a very good illustration of his view of the Devil. So I wrote him back something to the effect of, “Dear Richard: It’s impossible to be incarcerated and not feel a certain kinship with your fellow inmates. Well, Richard, I’ve done the impossible. I feel absolutely no kinship with you.” He got a kick out of it. He had a sense of humor.
PLAYBOY: Did you end up feeling sorry for any of them?
PENN: I’ll tell you, there’s nothing like being in jail and hearing the screams of somebody who’s going to be in there for the rest of his life. At night, you’re trying to sleep and you hear these fucking primal screams. When you think about what it’s like being in jail, you think to yourself, These people don’t deserve to be released, but nobody deserves this.
PLAYBOY: Was Ramirez a screamer?
PENN: Ramirez was odd. He was like a textbook psycho. He was funny. What he did was obviously horrible, but in jail, he was like the typical bad actor. He was like the psychos on The Mod Squad. Yeah, Penn's story is plausible. Celebrities routinely get housed in SHU's (secure housing unit). So do high-profile inmates like Ramirez.

Sorry everyone for posting about Richard Ramirez/Penn and not bring able to chat more about it today. But it looks like everyone pieced it together, yes, they were temporarily housed together in LA County. I'll try to find the quote on Madonna from that book if I get a chance later this week, but I distinctly remember reading that. One of my mentors interviewed him at LA County so I'll ask him for some scoop on this.
