It's Friday and I'm sure many of you are spending your day productively working on your Fantasy Football leagues. OK, maybe that is just me. I can usually mourn the passing of someone by watching their television shows or movies, but that is more difficult with Joan Rivers. I couldn't handle a Fashion Police marathon because it would inevitably include Giuliana and Kelly. It has been a tough month for comedy legends and really makes you think about mortality, especially when you know Joan went into that procedure, probably without a care in the world. Now that I have depressed myself, perhaps I will fill my coffee mug with some whiskey and watch one of her standup specials. I will be here all weekend, so if you can find the time between college and pro football and wondering when children's homework got so hard, stop on by and read the site. #1 - This B list jerk of an actor who stars on an ensemble network show which is on its very last legs spent time filming out of the country and hit on anything that moved, male or female, but his girlfriend is still planning on marrying him. Probably. She did walk out on him the other day when he was hitting on the waitress during dinner.
#2 - The girlfriend of this singer who alternates between A list and A+ list says they have had sex once in the past nine months. Someone should tell her to put on a wig and tell him to pretend she is a man. That is what his ex-wife did.
#3 - This former C list reality star with much higher name recognition who seems to move from one celebrity boyfriend to the next recently gave birth. She hired three nannies to cover the 24 hours in a day and even a weekend shift. One of her friends asked her about it and the answer was that the baby was her retirement fund and she has no interest in actually spending any time with the baby except for photos to show a judge in any custody hearing.
#4 - Kindness- This Teen Wolf actress was at the mall last week when a man had a heart attack. She performed CPR on him and brought him back and was there until the paramedics got there. No one knew who she was. One of the paramedics who came recognized her, but wasn't sure until she gave her name for the report.

ReplyDelete@Enty you are entitled to your opinion but I beg to differ on calling Joan rivers a legend. First of all, I didn't get her humor. Making snide nasty remarks at the expense of others and profiting from it is not entertainment to me. Now if you want to talk true comedic legends, let's choose talented people who actually fit the bill like carol Burnett, Lucille ball, robin Williams, Richard Pryor, bill Cosby. Those people helped perfect comedy into an art. Not Joan. Joan had a schtick and she found her audience and milked that bitch for every dollar it was worth. So while she was a clever old bird, I can't say I found her as talented in the arena of comedy. So no offense to yours and others opinions. I just think it's a bullshit opinion giving her such comedic reverence.
Joan started out with Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby her jokes were for comedy. In her personal life she was kind and generous.
DeleteMore chins than a Chinese phone book was Joan's. And she was a kind and generous person IRL. I have two close friends that have styled her and both say she was just the best and nicest celeb they had ever worked with. She was one of the hardest working people in show business. The woman was brilliant and a legend indeed.
DeleteEros - you need to read up on Joan. You would appreciate her more, at least I think you would if you knew what a trailblazer she really was. I'm not a huge fan of her work, but she was an amazing, brave woman.

ReplyDeleteBack in the day I was a hostess at the local Red Lobster. Dress code required all the busboys to have short haircuts. They all had long hair. There were 2 or 3 short wigs they would pass around, and they would shove all their hair up into the short wig. So if the girlfriend has long hair, she can wear a very short wig to have a more traditionally mannish appearance. Plus, it's a classic plot in historical romance novels for the heroine to try to pass herself off as a male by donning a short wig.

ReplyDelete@Eros TBH, I don't really get all the Joan Rivers love either. I've been over her for decades now. You're right about her schtick - and it never changed. It just wasn't funny for me anymore once I hit my mid-20s. It's nice for her that she had so many fans though. And she had a good run - parts of her made it to 81!
Now if you want to talk true comedic legends, let's choose talented people who actually fit the bill...

ReplyDeleteJoan went in without a care in the world because she had lived a full, long life and wasn't afraid of dying. She wasn't afraid of risking death in surgery. I say this not to undermine her death or cast blame when the hospital might be at fault. Just to find some comfort in the situation.
