ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time with the Sal Mineo guess though. Everything I've read about him seems to indicate he was an unassuming, likeable guy. I just can't imagine him turning into an extortionist blackmailer. His acting career was rebounding at the time of his death, and multiple prison guards stated they overheard the pizza delivery man admitting to the stabbing. It's also possible the tabloid selling former lover of that A list celebrity is making this up.

Sal Mineo is a great guess. I wouldn't count on anything someone admits to in prison, being a killer is a cache and a warning that if you mess with someone they may kill you too. Not as winning an endorsement of guilt as I would like. Merv would fit for the person with the most to lose, and he did live with Eva Gabor who admitted at one point she was just his beard. Very well paid beard. Sal's neighborhood was nice and still is, so a random guy working delivering pizza's never really fit well into the why murder some random in a street crime while you were working. Wouldn't you rob the people you knew were going to have money, on the delivery route, if that's what you were really after? I can buy that but an extortion of some sorts gone wrong - not necessarily even blackmail per se, but give me... or I'll... can be even more frightening to people with secrets than asking for an actual amount of money. And apparently more deadly.

Thing is just because Dr. Kidman is dead doesn't mean that scandal is going away since he is just one of a ring of alleged pedophiles but one could see some of the high and mighty relatives might distance themselves or they have first hand knowledge perhaps they should be sharing with investigators.

I f I'm not mistaken, #3 is a story arc of the craze-mazing novel American Tabloid. That book pretty much lays out the entire seedy underbelly of the late 50's and 60's. The trilogy continues through the 70's but I haven't made it past book 2 (The Cold Six Thousand) because it was so grotesque and horrifying, but really had me rapt. Anyway James Ellroy-- great master of genre fiction, as well as actual history detective. American Tabloid's def worth a read if you're into salacious celebrity gossip (which, I think we can agree, we all are:).
