This teen B list mostly movie actress was left in tears the other day when a designer said they didn't have anything for the actress to wear because she was too big for their clothes. But, they would give her some shoes. She is at most a size six and has had issues in the past so that was not a good thing to hear.

I applaud the attempts by some like Tyra Banks and the Plus Size models who have/are trying to use their celeb abilities to address.
They are all assholes so we dont need to pick and choose. They design for the skinny.

NOT DEFENDING THIN CULTURE! But i wld say to actress, this is career you hv chosen. Is the satisfaction from acting greater than the hurt of these inane remarks? This is a business that constantly finds fault with you. Can u seperate yourself from the actress to person? Because to survive u wll hv to. And hugs.

However if a woman doesn't have a concave stomach everyone guesses she must be pregnant. In the real world women have curves if they're healthy..it's time Hollywood caught on.

ReplyDeleteI read this morning that two designers at NYC Fashion Week actually had models of different sizes and different body types. Je suis shocked.
To me if you are truly a GREAT designer you should be able to design for any body and make anybody look good.
At least some of the designers actually make clothes larger than size 10 in ready to wear.
I also agree though, instead of making yourself upchuck your next meal you just say to the designer, well I guess you just lost all my business and patronage, and I will tell everyone what happened oh guess I did since CDAN has posted this as a blind and I should have said, take your shoes and stuff em up your skinny arses.
Then you take your sweet six 6 self to a designer who wants your business. No one designer is the only game in town.
#1 - if this girl is a TEEN then she doesn't have a lot of money to threaten designers with losing her business and can barely be responsible for "choosing" acting as a career - prob all she knows.

DeleteIt's amazing how Americans keep getting larger and models/actresses keep getting smaller. Major disconnect. Being told you're overweight when you aren't is horrible, can really mess with a young person's mind.

ReplyDeleteWhen you have gay men who are obsessed with young boys designing clothing for women who physically resemble young boys, there's a large part of your problem IMHO. it's like those guys (Karl comes to mind) doesn't even like women that look like women. When I was super skinny I remember trying on a Ralph Lauren outfit that was 75% off and the pants were ridiculously small even though the tag was my "size". That suit was sized for a child not an adult.

ReplyDeleteThe truth is most designer sample sizes are US size 0 or at most 2 and that's what they want to give out. Sophia Vergara says she was either turned down or sent unfitable gowns before she was a big name and they would then give her a dress made for sale.

I am sick of hearing all the rationalizations for the fashion industry producing such ridiculously small sample sizes. Curves are beautiful and we need REAL models again. Cindy Crawford, Christie Brinkley, Brooke Shields ALL have and had amazing figures and their bones were not sticking out. I will never forget seeing Kate Moss on the cover of Cosmo the first time when I was young. I was tiny, but I saw that picture and thought I was fat.
