Jennifer Lopez Snags $30M Deal To Perform "Live"

Jennifer Lopez is joining Britney Spears in the lip synch hall of fame. Planet Hollywood figured they were already paying one performer almost $30M to walk around the stage pretending to sing, so why not make it two. Jennifer Lopez is set to earn about $350K per show which is slightly more than Britney Spears, but it all evens out in the end and each get about $30M for a two year contract. I can understand paying Britney Spears that much money. People love her and will travel across the country or the world to see her walk around the stage pretending to sing. She has a lot of songs people love and they just want to see Britney and remember the old Britney, and I get that. I don't get the whole Jennifer Lopez thing. I don't want to go see Jennifer in concert. I don't want to sing along to songs I barely remember or know. To be a performer who has a residency, you need to have a lot of hits. A lot of them. This is not a hey I'm going on tour and I want to be like U2 and Madonna and not sing any of my old songs because I want you to sit through my entire new record because I am too good to sing my hits. Nope, a residency is hey, I know you paid a kazillion bucks and are being forced to drink several drinks and I want you to be happy because this is easy money so let me just play every top 40 song I ever had. Britney can do that, but Jennifer can't.

      MV = J Lo

  5. I'm having a day where I really wish someone would pay ma a tiny percentage of that to do nothing but show up. Showing up I can handle.
She's so ridiculously not worth it.

  6. @montanam. L o l

She's prob dying to pick her next minion, I mean back up dancer.

  7. I'm obviously not properly appreciating her body of work, whatever the hell that is.

  8. Is this a Trick or Treat joke ?

  9. "Girl you know it's true, Ooh ooh ooh, I love you"

    ReplyDelete
  10. That's less than 1 show/week. Not exactly a grueling schedule. I hope it's not $30 million guaranteed, but is tied to ticket sales. I can't see it selling out.

  11. JLo is a draw. She's Jenny from the Block. She may not have Mimi sized pipes, but she's done a lot more in terms of branching outside of singing than Mimi has, so more people are aware of her. (Her wiki is funny, though, you can tell some publicist or fan wrote it. " She has established herself as a prominent figure in both the film and music industry, in a career spanning four decades." Taking dance lessons at five years old is not a career!)

E got it wrong, though. She's not getting $30 mil nor is she making more than Brit.

J-Lo would reportedly do three shows a week, over the course of 24 separate weeks, spread over one to two years. Although $350,000 a pop for 72 shows would equal about $25.2 million, TMZ said the final deal would pay Lopez about $26.3 million.
Spears is in the midst of a two-year, 96-show contract at The Axis that’ll pay her $29.7 million.

  14. I've always believed that JLo was MV..

  15. Well, Jennifer will probably *dance* live, which is more than can be said for Britney and her doubles.

Hispanics are the fastest-growing ethnic group in the U.S. I'm sure Las Vegas would love to have more Hispanic-American visitors, who are younger than the U.S. mean and probably more likely to spend money on cocktails than aging Britney and Celine Dion fans. Not to mention all the potential JLo fans from Latin America.

  16. +1 @ Seven. Enty is so subjectively judgmental, he can't see the forest for the trees.
American Idol hasn't been paying her big bucks for no good reason.
I'm not a JLo fan either but I get it.

  17. Long Time Lurker since the OG Enty Days...first time poster...thanks for entertaining me every day for the last six years, you guys!

I think this is a guarantee our next MV clue will be "She has or had a show in Vegas."

  20. Who is the executive that fucks these 2 while they are in Vegas doing shows?

No talent hos don't get $30mill fer nuthin.

  21. Personally I don't get the Britney thing either but I guess that's an age thing. I'm not a huge Madonna fan but I give her way more props than I'd ever give Brit or JLo. I still wouldn't pay to see any of them in concert.

  22. Wow say what you want but she has a BANGIN body

    ReplyDelete
  23. Very smart move on her part. Her kids will be in one place, she'll have a set schedule, and make a ton of money.

But who the hell wants to see a J Lo show?

    ReplyDelete
  24. MV all the way! It's been so long, I'll bet that the real singer is already famous.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gather around kids, lemme tell ya'll a story!

Long, long, long ago, when the real Enty would post the blinds, he said he adored Brit Brit our Lady of Cheetos, and MV Was not her.

    *ooooooohhhhhhhh*
    *aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh*
    *GASP!*

Yes, my little dumplings, the Real Enty actually said she wasn't MV!

Now go schooch ya'll, and don't forget to grab a piece of candy on the way out!

  26. No worries. Paying JLo 30M is just God's way of telling Planet Hollywood the shark has JUMPED

  28. JoElla, I remember the original Enty.
I recall seeing your name too.
I didn't comment at all back then.
I think his replacement is actually several people.

    lol @ Frosty, so true.

  29. @MinPinGirl I'm with you. I'd put JLo and Britney in the same category. Obviously this Entern was a tweener girl in the 1990s, because I never thought much of either of them.

    Madonna 4 evah!

  30. Am I the only one who gets excited when jlo performs on an awards show? I love her dancing since she was fly and I think it's awesome seeing a 41 year old look as hot as she does. Yeah she's MV but I think her songs are just fun and nothing serious. I'd totally go see her and Britney.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd see JLo before Brit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL that is funny, the two main suspects for MV possible in Vegas side by side. And yes at least JLo can dance and put on an exciting show, gotta give her props for that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Um, to be fair to Madonna, she DOES do all her old hits when she goes on tour. They might have a new twist to them but you can bet if you pay money to see Madonna, you are going to see her sing Vogue.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Madonna is an entertainer and a perfectionist and she charges a lot for those tickets so she better be.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Both MV candidates in Vegas.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Say what you like about JLo, but the girl can hustle. She forced her way to A list. And stayed there.
She isn't my cuppa cha, but I can appreciate her game. And she had a lot of (fleeting) hits.
I wouldn't pay to see her, but there are more than enough who will.
Good for her, I say. Girl knows how to get paid.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is MV really real? Or just some old blind Enty keeps fudging each year? Otherwise, why not just out it already, we all know it's either Brit or JLo, right?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jlo fan base is Latina primarily so she will get slotted into all the fight weekends and cezar Chavez holidays and 5/5 for sure. Every UFC. Wrestlemania. 4/20. They will selectively slot her around the Latino themed weekends
bertney will draw nascar. .always. .

Also the company that owns Ceasars entertainment tpg capital which owns planet Hollywood just bought 10% of CAA a few days ago so that might have had something to do with it. .

    ReplyDelete
  39. @good ol me. I'm fairly sure the original singer has passed away. I'm completely there for Jlo. No new music from her for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Bitter, MV will not be revealed until she dies. The ambiguity of the wording and the quotation marks around "live" and "singing" and "recording" have been done on both JLo AND Brit, but not on Mimi or Shania Twain.

I still think it's going to be a Timmy/Shimmy all over again. "Rocking the music world" will probably be more like "rocking the Musak world".

@AllieB, that cracked me up! The ambiguity continues!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not a JLo fan, but your logic doesn't fly, Enty. She had a number of hits back in the day and can fill a roster for an evening. I won't be seeing her, but apparently some will!

    ReplyDelete
  42. @7/11 Timmy/shimmy what a palaver!!! Great story but who really cared in the end???
I'm thinking, don't talk something up when it's not that fascinating to begin with!
Have to admit though I would be clutching my pearls if I found out that Jen was miming ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. JLo can dance, Britney can barely find her way out for coffee on a good day. Big difference right there. Still think Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston would have been bigger shocks to the music world than these two.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Audrey I was actually wondering if it was Janet the other day because her voice was very different on a few songs I remember but then I remembered a few clues that ruled her out. I still wonder if it's her...

  44. No, I suspect that Jennifer does not have 90 minutes worth of songs for a Vegas show.

I do agree she will probably have lots of dancing. Lots of lights. Maybe even Casper has got hired as the choreographer too! That might explain why she brought him back into her life. He is once again on her payroll as an employee.

Now if she could throw in a few of those Selena hits, from the movie. It may turn into a hit show for her in Vegas.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ha! They got into JLo not having the body of work to justify the contract on Dish Nation. Hilarity ensued.

    ReplyDelete

JLo is a better performer, Enty your hatred towards JLo is very unreasonable. I cannot think of what she has done to you or most of the haters that caused you to trash her in every opportunity that you have. Say what you want but she has made quite an impact to the entertainment industry, what is your accomplishment to the community apart from finding flaws on celebrities? Sigh... Time to evaluate yourself a little.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Seven, a clicky just for me, I'm honored!

Wow, that is QUITE a story.

I can't help thinking this is all bullshit though.

Why would MV agree to meet S and then be rude to her when she needed S?

Why on EARTH would MV ever sign a gold record with S for Enty. That's a smoking gun right there. No way in hell. Even if Enty is a lawyer, no way in hell.

And "MV was on her own for future recordings and tours" - really? So what happened with that? Did MV retire? Did she lip synch to old recordings by S and not produce any more new content?

    This is just not possible.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, wait. I say it's not possible but - Milli Vanilli won a Grammy!

    ReplyDelete
  49. But then, if Enty was the lawyer who brokered the deal between MV and S - he's really out on a limb posting a blind like that. Professional misconduct.

Granted nobody involved is in a position to go public by suing him but still... sleazy as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I still believe MV is Shania Twain. I don't care that it's supposedly not her---she fucking disappeared after being shoved down our throats for most of the 90's. I think the clue about MV being a US citizen is a total red herring.

  52. It's very hard to sing when you do the very physical dance numbers she does. You are basically huffing and puffing at some parts. That's why these singers lip sync. Jlo doesn't have the best voice in the biz but she does have a good voice. Haters just be haters enty.

  54. I would so see JLo before Brittney although I doubt either of them are MV regardless of questionable talent. Who would need an amazing singer with pipes, as S was described as to sing for either of these two are aren't known for their vocals.

And Latino themed weekend? Latino's aren't the only ones who like Jennifer, but say that they were; are you not familiar with the demographics of Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado by themselves? She could and would sell out regularly.
