Uma Thurman must have done something to tick off her twice ex-fiancee Arpad Busson. Yesterday in a NYC courtroom, the financier who also has two kids with Elle MacPherson filed for sole custody of the two year old daughter he had with Uma. Because child custody cases are sealed in NYC, there has not been any information on why he suddenly decided to ask for custody. The guy lives in London, so I wonder if this will end up like the Kelly Rutherford case and the daughter will be allowed to move to London, or since Busson is allowed to live in the US if he will be forced to live here if he wants sole custody. In the next couple of days when Uma files her response I bet there will be some leaks because she will try to get the upper hand on how the story plays out in the media while Busson prefers to stay in the shadows with most things he does.
Unless she is unfit (which i doubt) why take away from the mother? Does he have Elle's kids?

ReplyDeleteI believe the best intrest of the child is served by both parents having access to the child. In Ruthorford's case, she made her bed and got her just desserts.
ReplyDeleteFamily law is very complicated and very personal. Not everything that's said is true. People can get very aggressive and very destructive.
ReplyDeleteOr it could be as simple as working out the best living situation for the kid and everyone just wants what's best.
Oh, and just because he's asked for custody doesn't automatically mean she did something wrong. It could just be a legal move yo have his parental rights acknowledged, especially if he isn't resident in the country.
DeleteMy ex tried to get custody of our kids. He failed miserably because the judge saw right through him (he was hurt and angry that I'd left him. He tried to hurt me).
We agreed on joint custody and weekly visitation.
What's best for the kids sometimes gets lost in the legal jargon.
I thought a baby daddy was pretty much just a sperm donor. These two were together for some time.

ReplyDeleteUma's IMDB is rather spotty over the past few years. It could be because she's been busy being pregnant and giving birth, or because she's aged out of the prime female roles, or maybe because of something else. The filing was described as an 'emergency order' for custody.
ReplyDeleteIf he's filed as an emergency, he better be able to back it up. Domestic Relations judges get pissy if you waste their time.
ReplyDeleteYou never know what the circumstances are. Maybe he's just angry and bitter or maybe she has become unfit. There have been hints of Uma's drug use for years, I think we've even discussed it here.

DeleteMaybe shes an unfit mother. Ive never even seen her in the tabloids for any sketchy behavior but you never know. He doesnt seem like the type of guy who would waste his time in court unless he had a fair chance of winning.

Even with all the bitterness after the Uma/Ethan break-up, there was never any suggestion of unfit parenting. If those accusations were going to happen to Uma ever, it would have been there.
ReplyDeleteIf Uma was ill, they would just work it out between them, not go through the courts.
Since they were never married, I suspect he's just never had any formalized custody arrangement, and wants it. Maybe she said no to a visitation for some reason and he got ticked off.
And yes @pip, obviously Enty doesn't know what the term baby daddy is. Lol. It's not a man that you're in a long term relationship with, and you have a child together. ;)

ReplyDeleteHe manages money offshore. I'm sure he has no interest in residing in NYC and paying American taxes since he can visit 179 days a year for free. Frankly I think it is a problem with UMA. He has no conflicts regarding children with Elle. If he was a complete jerk it would have shown up in that relationship.He doesn't have any problem with the mother having primary custody. Also, although he is often photographed, given his relationships, there is in fact virtually no personal publicity - doesn't seem to be the type to enter high profile custody fights unless he perceived a real issue.
ReplyDeleteUma has other children as well. Unless Ethan Hawke files for emergency custody too, I won't believe there is an issue with parenting.

It's about control.....he's going to use the child to try to control her.

ReplyDeleteIt could be a power play; an attempt at establishing control; or him just trying to ensure his parental rights. Or he could just be a d*ck.
I think more will be revealed.
And just because he had no issues with the mother of his other children doesn't mean this guy isn't pulling a power play for the wrong reasons. We'll know soon enough I guess. It would seem they had tumultuous relationship with two broken engagements. So there may still be a lot of acrimony there.

ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have any issues with Elle having custody of their children. Rumor has it she has a serious cocaine addiction. The Lainey blind was about her using while pregnant. Why is everyone jumping on Team Uma and saying he is being malevolent and controlling? It kind of sounds like a dad trying to protect his child. Child support is a drop in the bucket to this guy. I don't buy the argument he's trying to avoid child support. I am a family law attorney, btw.

ReplyDeleteI think DBrown nailed it. Uma's issues have been skillfully finessed and hidden for the most part by her people but every now and then something leaks out.
