Four For Friday - Looking For A Friend

This weekend is the start of award season. Yeah, you can't count the Video Music Awards. At this point that is just a paid Taylor Swift commercial. I will be here all weekend and on Sunday will have some posts in the afternoon and evening for the red carpet and Emmy Awards show. You actually don't even need to watch the show because on Monday I will have all the dirt, which is all anyone really cares about anyway.

If she is in town, and by town, I mean a little town slightly south of Santa Barbara. She is an Academy Award winner/nominee. You could argue she was A+ list at one point. Definitely A list. Foreign born with a permanent A list movie actor husband. Our actress has gone through some issues over the past few years, one of which is trying to keep track of her real age. I digress. Anyway, she has some issues she has worked through including her husband constantly cheating on her. One of the things these issues have caused is a lack of friendship. She has very few friends. Oh, sure she can air kiss with the best of them and put on a big Hollywood fake grin, but it is just fake. Empty. So, there she is, on the little main street in this town, strolling from shop to shop. She has enough money where she spends a few bucks at each store, but it is more a payment for letting her be there and talking to her. She can stay in a store for an hour just talking. Wanting to be talked to. She will make the rounds of her four or five favorite stores over the course of a day. It has nothing to do with what they sell, although her favorite does sell consignment clothing. Nope, what it has to do more with is the person in the store. She goes to shops which will talk to her and entertain her. Converse with her, even for a little while. Everyone in the town loves her and loves spending time with her, but for some reason she never does this with any other people. No one in the industry. No one when she is on sets. Maybe she thinks they are as fake as the air kisses they blow. So, if you are in this town, and it is a weekday, because she only does this on weekdays, don't be surprised to see her in stores, seated on a chair, talking and smiling and laughing and at the end of it, purchasing something to make it look like it was all business, when it is really her trying to find a friend.

  6. I think the person feels very lonely and wants to be around with real people and such. If you know what I mean.

I don't think this is weird or odd at all. She doesn't like showbiz people. I don't associate with people I work with outside of work. She enjoys the company of some local shop keepers that she visits regularly. Meh.

CZJ, and is nice to know she enjoys doing this.

CZJ wants friends who are regular people and not backstabbing lowlifes from the entertainment business who would use her and treat her like dirt. Maybe the regs might not even know who she is, so she can talk to them about their lives and she can about hers over a cup of tea.

Poor CZJ. Such a lovely woman. Inside and out. She made such a bad choice marrying Michael Douglas. Into that family. They're horrid people. Sins of the fathers indeed.

Good for her, real people with real lives. Actors get paid to act and be pretend people. Hopefully she is mentally well

This actually sounds like what people used to do before the interwebs. They went outside, walked around, and met people in their community.

You go, CZJ! Keep it real.

+1000 - mental illness really fucks with your social life. sometimes you just want any social activity....but with strangers. no one that knows you or your issues. its an escape. :( I hope she finds some sort of peace

I don't think it's weird at all. I go to a store once a week to chat with the owner. We're not friends outside of my visits, but I do enjoy talking with her, so I go there when she's working. She always expects me to pop by, too. Sometimes I buy stuff, sometimes I don't. Mainly it's just to catch up on gossip and see what is new in the store.

I've heard that Gene Tierney worked at Bullocks Wilshire on the Jewelry counter on the advice of her psychiatrist. This was years after her heyday in the 1940's. She had had a breakdown and it was therapeutic for her to interact with people.

It sounds like it's all about getting back to basic human interaction.

    Good for her.

I came here to post this, exactly. (Montecito has some super cute little shops, as does Santa Barbara!)

At least she is interacting with real people who are not selling her out or calling the paps.

@MizFabulous:I could not agree more- what a beautiful place- so much charm SB has(and it's environs).i think they have a pretty spectacular home there(or did), nestled in the Santa Ynez mountains.

I'll be more than her friend. She can dump Douglas and support me so I can GTFO of Chicago

This isn't blind for locals. She's no trouble, nobody calls the paps. They wouldn't haul their fat asses up here for a shot of her shopping anyway.
