Blind Item #2

This A+ list rapper/mogul who does a crappy job of running a record label spent several hundred thousand dollars wooing this foreign born A- lister in her country and B lister here to sign to his label. What she doesn't know is that he wants her for her songwriting. She will never get another record with him in charge. His wife will though.

How many A+ list rapper/mogul/record label people with a singing wife currently exist?

So what? Songwriting royalties are da bomb--especially if they're songs for Beyonce. Deeyam. She'll be set for life.

Yeah...it's entirely possible that she's well aware and is OK with it.

I think the new artist is Emeli Sande just partnered with Roc Nation, she is a good singer and songwriter that had a massive album a few years ago in the UK.

More cash, upfront and beyond! Totally agree with you.
Plus, it's not uncommon for songwriters to get their own time in spotlight, Pharrell, Kesha, etc.

  10. I agree with Muchlu that it's Emeli Sande. He was all about her in interviews not long ago!

A songwriting friend of mine had one song--ONE--on the B-side of a mega, mega hit back in the 1980s. He's never had a day job since, and he never even wrote the hit, just the song on the flip side. Back then, it didn't matter which side sold the record, both songwriters each got a share.

Yeah, I'd be pretty jazzed to have a song I've written be on a Beyonce album. That would give me enough financial freedom to be creatively artistic in other endeavors.

Your friend needs a pen pal - me, specifically.

Could be Jay-Z going after Sia. She's wrote songs for Beyoncé, Rhianna and others before, and has said she'd like to retire and just write songs eventually.

  16. To be fair, writing songs on a Beyonce album probably pays better than recording your own album that no one buys.

I'd rather hear Emeli Sande sing those songs over Beyonce...

  18. Emeli doesn't have to worry about no one buying her album. Her debut came out in 2012 and it broke a few records.
