This B- list mostly television actress who is on that very hit almost television show and is no stranger to trouble, skipped a press event because she was so wasted on drugs. This is becoming such an issue that she might be killed off in the upcoming season.

ReplyDeleteIt's never the drug or the problem, because they don't see using as the problem.
...and they are always strong enough to quit if they want to.
(Smokers have the same attitude.)
Strength has nothing to do with quitting. Addiction happens b/c the brain of an addict is a never ending loop (that they can't control) telling them using is #1 goal - before family, friends, job, and self. It's a *mental illness* NOT a moral issue.
ReplyDeleteThe moral/strength philosophy is like telling the bipolar person to "just stop having mood swings." Both are ignorant and antiquated views that need to change.
I am constantly amazed, given what is known about the brain & addiction, that anyone ever gets, let alone, stays sober.

ReplyDeleteYeah, but when Orange started, it was seen as a one off series, with no follow up seasons. She was hired because they figured she would get through the season of filming, and she was a big enough name that she would held attract viewers. To everyone's fairly great surprise, Orange was a huge hit, and everyone was brought back. If they'd envisioned this as a long running show like nets do, then she'd never have been hired.
