I keep getting stuck on "former A list world politician". To me, that sounds like a former UN Secretary General or a prime minister/president-type.

This makes sense, bribery charges often get bigger fish indicted, and he was involved with Chinese Billionaires . Also, one report says he died of a heart attack, another from a weight lifting accident.
