This actress never really got above B list despite her acting resume and her family pedigree. She acted for nearly fifty years and probably took three times that many lovers in her career. Drugs and a partying lifestyle made her a scandal in her storied family. She once was almost deported from a country because of the number of high school boys and girls she slept with in one year.

Most Broadway stars (which she was more than anything else) are unknown to the masses and gossip columns anyway. I can see her screwing kids since that's what they do, and drink because what else was there to do in the South back then?.

ReplyDeleteWow, she was an interesting person for sure...i just knew about her that she auditioned for the role of Scarlett O Hara, and was deemed too old to play her..and actually, 36 years were too much for that role.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, pedophiles are attracted to prepubescent children. I think it's gross for adults to sleep with teens, but that's not pedophilia.
Second, how do you know they weren't 18-year-old high school seniors?
Third, times have changed a lot back then. 13 year old girls could marry 50 year old men. Back then it wasn't as much of a taboo.
Another one of my Southern Stories. True, of course. Tah-loo, as she was known by my grandmother, was a close, dear, revered family friend. My father told me stories about the times she came to the 'Plantation' in the 30s, 40s. The Plantation was on a private island my grandmother bought during Prohibition so she could run rum from Cuba. The older I got, the wilder the stories got. She was quite a gal! The most outrageous one was the time she came to Miz Mamie (my grands) Halloween Party. She backed into the living room completely naked from the waist down. She pops out her butt and screams, "Look, y'all! I came as a Parker House Roll!!!!' What a visual that is! Always loved this tormented woman. She was also incredibly kind and generous to her friends.

ReplyDeleteIt seems we don't make 'characters' anymore, just whiny former tweeners, selfie queens, housewives and teen moms. It's depressing. Helena Bonham Carter seems like she's a character, but we don't get to hear about it.
